To ask you what bones you have broken?

I was reading the 'broken ankle' thread and was amazed at how many people have broken their ankles or tibula/fibula.

I mean, I know people break bones all the time , but honestly, before my car accident at the age of 39 I had only had a green fracture in my arm at the age of 4.

So here I am thinking I'm all unique Grin with all my broken bones, but I'd actually really like to know about other peoples'.

I'll go first (this was in the car accident in January):

R collarbone
2 ribs (one in two places)
R pelvis
R femur (upper leg)
R tibula/fibula (lower leg)
L femur
L heel

Obviously I'm held together by a lot of metal at the moment Grin but it's better than a head injury or being dead (obviously). And for some reason I am super proud of my scars.

Please tell me your stories? Smile

For those who think they've been too careful because they haven't broken anything, please don't. Honestly, I'd much rather not have broken anything. Ever.

Okay, so a list of things to avoid from now on:
Horse riding
Skiing
Wearing high heels (don't actually think I'll be able to wear them again with my fractures anyway)
Slipping on ice (I live in S.A. so unlikely)
Giving birth (thank fuck I got sterilised)
Coughing Confused gonna be the most difficult one to avoid I think

Thanks for telling me your stories Flowers

It's been really interesting.

First and last at the age of 39. Fractured my foot trail running- just had a boot for 4 weeks. I think also broke ribs playing rugby at University but I never got an X-ray so not actually sure.

LaLaLanded · 03/12/2017 06:54

None! Except I’ve now developed a mild dread of it. DP wants to go skiing in the New Year and I’m utterly convinced I will break a bone. Bunny slopes for me!

LakieLady · 03/12/2017 07:04

1983: scaphoid, head of radius and ulna (slipped on wet floor)
1989: nose (slipped on wet pavement and headbutted bin, drink-related)
1991: scaphoid (tripped on uneven pavement)
1996: 2 ribs (fell over dog, landed on tv)
1999: 2nd and ring fingers (fell down stairs in pub, drink related)
2009: complex colles fracture of right wrist and head of ulna (slipped on icy pavement)

I'm starting to feel superstitious about years that end in 9. I've also had 2 dislocations: shoulder (fell off motorbike in 1973) and kneecap (1982, parachute jumping).

I come from a very accident-prone family. My brother's record is as bad as mine and we had 2 very accident-prone uncles. My father lost a brother to a freak childhood accident (he was looking out of a window when the sash cord broke, the window crashed down and broke his neck).

As we are talking about it just want to do a quick shout out to remind anyone who fractures a bone after the age of 50 to ask about an assessment for osteoporosis.

It only matters if the fracture occurred from minimal impact - so not if doing sking or car accident - but trip etc.

Catching it in the early stages can prevent multiple fractures in later life

Greenandcabbagelooking · 03/12/2017 07:30

Toes a lot - dancer with very odd, soft feet, who hates wearing shoes indoors.

Wrist - twice. Six weeks in plaster, my first PE lesson without a cast and the bullies shoved me over and re-broke the bone.

ruby1234 · 03/12/2017 07:34

Shin bone, little fingers, ribs, shoulder bone, ankle, nose.

All horse related (will I ever learn)...

LittleCandle · 03/12/2017 07:37

Collar bone age 2, falling downstairs.

Knuckle at age 15, falling off a horse.

Big toe, twice, same horse both times, different accidents.

Coccyx, falling off a horse.

A bone in my foot (drunken XH).

Both ankles a few times, according to x-rays, but we thought they were just bad sprains and I continued to walk on them, hence a really dodgy ankle now.

I am frequently surprised by the number of people I meet who have never broken a bone.

wonkylegs · 03/12/2017 07:46

I've broken -
Nose x 2 - as a child
Shoulder (proximal humerus) - late teens
2 fingers - late teens
2 toes - adult

Toes hurt the most, shoulder took the longest to heal and was the most awkward

I thought I'd broken my kneecap when I slipped and fell on concrete but turned out to be a bruised bone which took 6months to heal.

Timmytoo · 03/12/2017 08:09

Oh wow Turtle I see you live in SA 😊 Me too 😎.

EastMidsGPs · 03/12/2017 08:18

Left wrist - as a child, fell off scooter

2 ribs, fall

Right cheekbone, trapped thumb in car door as parked on busy street, felt faint, fainted, hit face on edge of pavement (oh what a fun afternoon in A&E that was)

Right small toe, box of porridge fell out of cupboard onto it

Two fingers trapped in heavy fire door

Collarbone, fell over now Mr EastMids - first time we met

Ankle, plus torn ligaments and tendons - fell down into a rabbit hole in field/temporary carpark at fire works display

I am rather clumsy!

FV45 · 03/12/2017 09:30

2 cracked ribs - skiing
3 stress fractures over the years; one in each foot and one fibula.

ShowOfHands · 03/12/2017 09:36

I've never broken a bone. Neither has DH or either of the children. Or my Mum and Dad. Or my grandparents on either side.

DH was in a serious RTA a few years ago and was knocked off his bike and run over by a car doing 50mph. My Dad was crushed by a tractor years ago and had internal injuries. Still no broken bones.

drspouse · 03/12/2017 09:40

Right shoulder - coracoid process - bike accident, aged 28.
Left shoulder - neck of humerus - bike accident, aged 42.
I still ride a bike!
Most irritating was the ortho who basically implied that at 42 I shouldn't really expect to be sporty again and that wanting to be able to swim or do yoga moves was VVU.

drspouse · 03/12/2017 09:41

Oh I think also my coccyx skiing but never had an x-ray.

Rachie1973 · 03/12/2017 09:44

Erm.... I shattered my left radius and ulna when I was 14. Lots of plates and pins in it. They removed all the metal a while later but I have a 6 inch scar for it. And I still set off metal detectors all over the place.

Right scaphoid 4 times, left scaphoid 3 times

Left wrist twice, right wrist once. AT the same time on one occasion during the petrol shortage when hubs was stuck on a training course miles away, and I had a baby and 2 older children lol.

2 knuckles on my right hand, I somehow dislocated a finger and panicking about how it looked I shoved the finger back and managed to break the knuckles doing it.

BestIsWest · 03/12/2017 09:46

Collarbone
Ankle x 3
Metatarsals x 3
Wrist
Metacarpal
Coccyx
Numerous toes.

Had parathyroid tumour which caused osteoporosis. On the mend now.

RestingBitchFaced · 03/12/2017 09:50

Finger
Elbow
Ankle (in 3 places)
Arm
All in separate incidents

ticketytock1 · 03/12/2017 12:57

I'm clumsy as fuck.
Broken arm, had a compound tib and fib fracture, broke nose 3 times and have had countless other accidents which have resulted in visits to a&e.
I'm in my 30's and have had surgery 6 times in my life.
I really need to be more careful!

Stiddleficks · 03/12/2017 13:01

I shattered my knee cap when I was 5, broke my cheekbone coming off a bike , a thumb in a car accident, a toe, and 2ribs and chipped my coccyx after a fall Ice skating. My dh has never broke a bone.

BelligerentGardenPixies · 03/12/2017 13:03

41 and yet to have broken anything, but I have been fortunate to never have an accident that could cause one either.

tinytemper66 · 03/12/2017 13:07

None fingers crossed! 🤞🏻🤞🏻

QuackPorridgeBacon · 04/12/2017 09:01

23 so I realise I have a lot of time left to break something. The only thing I have broken is my right(?) Thumb. It was broken when I tried to protect my head from a few slaps from my nan. She thought I was overreacting and gave me ice for it whilst we walked to my home for over 30 minutes. Then more checks by my Mum and ended up in hospital as it was broken.

user1494409994 · 04/12/2017 09:39

None and I'm 45!

MrsPear · 04/12/2017 09:55

Unofficially toes and fingers. I just strap unless it is a funny angle doctors can’t help. I learnt that at 14 from the one official broken finger which occurred playing netball.
Not sure on the actual bones but I know I broke both arms separatly as a small child age 3 / 4. One was falling backwards off a bed into a clothes horse and the other a low wall. That is it.
Dh has broke a leg and a wrist - both work related. He is in construction. The wrist one could have been far worse as it was a fall from height and the idiot hadn’t secured his hard hat.
Ds1 wine glass fracture falling off a scooter. He only seemed to wobble.
