Ordering chips, AIBU?

The local Chinese takeaway does really good chips. Amazing ones. Got to know this when they sent me some by accident a few weeks ago.

So tonight, DH and I order a takeaway and having been ill all week and struggling through it at work, I fancied treating myself to some of those amazing chips as a side to my meal.

DH strongly objected on two grounds; that I won't eat them all and that its not right to have chips as a side to Chinese food. As I was doing the order online, I just ignored him and added the chips.

When the meal arrived he got really would up about the chips being there, going on and on about how it wasn't a right thing to order, how I was wasting food, how it was unhealthy etc.... He wouldn't let it go and made a huge issue of it.

He then said that I'm banned from ever ordering chips with a Chinese takeaway again. He's now sulking in another room.

I accept that it's not in any way traditional, but they're so good, I feel like sh*t and wanted some extra carbs as a treat. I don't do it every time I order Chinese food. Was his reaction OTT or AIBU about the chips?

Love chips with Chinese.

ticketytock1 · 30/11/2017 21:44

Omg tell him to go fuck! We always get chips with our Chinese... known here as a 'half n half' (half rice half chips)

AlternativeTentacle · 30/11/2017 21:44

what is wrong with pizza and roast potatoes?

squoosh · 30/11/2017 21:44

I could not stand to be with someone who tried to get all alpha with me over such trivial shit.

'You're banned from ordering chips again'

I'd buy 100 bags of chips and scatter them over him as he slept. Then I'd hook up with the guy from the takeaway in front of him. Whilst eating chips.

HermionesRightHook · 30/11/2017 21:45

I have never had chips with Chinese and never will, because I have rules about what food goes together, and chips and Chinese in my head are Separate Foods. Our local Chinese agrees with me: it is both a Chinese and a Chippy, and yet it has two separate tills and two separate queues.

But other people including my DH can do whatever the hell they like if they are enjoying it, and your husband is a sulky manchild twat.

MrsMoastyToasty · 30/11/2017 21:45

Tell him it's fusion cooking.

starzig · 30/11/2017 21:45

I love Chinese chips and often get them instead if rice. Fancied both last time (couldn't deicide) so me and DP shared 1 of each.

JimLahey · 30/11/2017 21:45

@ Buzzkillington a Chinese takeaway is hardly an authentic experience in Chinese cuisine anyway it's just a treat..

BewareOfDragons · 30/11/2017 21:46

I can't believe he honestly thinks he gets to dictate your eating choices to you in this manner?

What a wanker.

Hopefully you've shown him this thread and set him straight!

cocktailismyfavouritefilm · 30/11/2017 21:47

Chinese chips are amazing.

Especially dipped in chines curry sauce.

If there's any left overs I put them in the fridge and then put them in the oven the next day after microwaving the left over curry sauce. Yum.

Your husband doesn't know what he's missing and is pathetic to sulk over some chips!!!

Insomnibrat · 30/11/2017 21:47

If the chinese sent you a fortune cookie, open it now.

Bet it says 'LTB'.

Ropsleybunny · 30/11/2017 21:48

Unbelievable. Tell him to fuck right off to the other side of fuck and then fuck off again.

DontDrinkDontSmoke · 30/11/2017 21:48

What does your DH imagine that the chips are doing on the Chinese menu in the first place?

What a wazzock.

Leftover Chinese chips are even good straight from the fridge the next day.

pictish · 30/11/2017 21:49

We order chips with every Chinese takeaway. We have rice as well...but yes, always chips. Everyone knows that Chinese chips are the best chips. Wink

Your husband sounds like a right arsehole. What's it got to do with him?!
Banned from ordering chips...ha ha ha. Do fuck off.

SleepingBooty · 30/11/2017 21:50

Salt and pepper chips are standard in this house, it's not a chinese takeaway without them. Your DH is ridiculous.

strawberrypenguin · 30/11/2017 21:52

Well he’s being a dick. And for some reason Chinese takeaways always do amazing chips. We often have them as part of a Chinese order

LapdanceShoeshine · 30/11/2017 21:54

I always get chips with Chinese takeaway. He's just wrong!

QuestionableMouse · 30/11/2017 21:55

Send him over this way because he'd hate me. I've just had egg fried rice, noodles and chips.

PelvicFloorClenchReminder · 30/11/2017 21:57

Is your name Noelle? Because your boyfriend's* a dick.

wictional · 30/11/2017 21:59

Chinese chips are the best! Especially with gravy.

He can’t ban you from doing anything. Who does he think he is???

Hassled · 30/11/2017 22:00

The whole concept of chips with Chinese is upsetting me. It's weird and wrong in many, many different ways.

But - I'm not you. You do what you want. Your DH is right in principle, but stropping off about it is ridiculous. People have different views.

Penfold007 · 30/11/2017 22:00

My late gran loved 'Chinese chips' and occasionally persuaded my granddad or my dad to go and get them for her. Fish and chips was another matter and had to be purchased from the Fish & Chip shop.
DH is Welsh, he and our DC love 'half and half' Chinese or Indian.

Pickleypickles · 30/11/2017 22:00

pelvic 😂😂😂

GertrudeCB · 30/11/2017 22:02
