Ordering chips, AIBU?

The local Chinese takeaway does really good chips. Amazing ones. Got to know this when they sent me some by accident a few weeks ago.

So tonight, DH and I order a takeaway and having been ill all week and struggling through it at work, I fancied treating myself to some of those amazing chips as a side to my meal.

DH strongly objected on two grounds; that I won't eat them all and that its not right to have chips as a side to Chinese food. As I was doing the order online, I just ignored him and added the chips.

When the meal arrived he got really would up about the chips being there, going on and on about how it wasn't a right thing to order, how I was wasting food, how it was unhealthy etc.... He wouldn't let it go and made a huge issue of it.

He then said that I'm banned from ever ordering chips with a Chinese takeaway again. He's now sulking in another room.

I accept that it's not in any way traditional, but they're so good, I feel like sh*t and wanted some extra carbs as a treat. I don't do it every time I order Chinese food. Was his reaction OTT or AIBU about the chips?

What the hell how could you have a Chinese takeaway without chips Shock I've never had Chinese takeaway without chips!!

oldlaundbooth · 30/11/2017 21:17

Not on.

Let them eat chips.

whirlygirly · 30/11/2017 21:17

I've never had chips with a Chinese but this thread is making my mouth water.

Your dh is being a twat.

babybobobear · 30/11/2017 21:17

Your DH is weird!

arethereanyleftatall · 30/11/2017 21:17

Wtf? Eat what you like.

Be3Al2Si6O18 · 30/11/2017 21:17

He then said that I'm banned from ever ordering chips with a Chinese takeaway again.

Banned. Banned.

[roll over pissing myself with laughter emoticon if there was one]

Moanyoldcow · 30/11/2017 21:18

Properly bizarre reaction. Is this kind of behaviour usual?

DowntonCrabby · 30/11/2017 21:18

YADNBU and he most certainly is.

You've made me really want chips!!

CurbsideProphet · 30/11/2017 21:18

His reaction was way over the top. I'd be fucking fuming if my DP tried to tell me what I can and can't eat Angry

LondonHerbivore32 · 30/11/2017 21:18

Thanks all, nice to be reassured I'm not doing something really objectionably weird with my food preferences.

I enjoyed a very large amount of the chips, while smirking at him as he sulked over his noodles. They were absolutely delicious. Grin

DH can be very set in his ideas sometimes.

Last week I was introduced to chinese curry sauce with chips and bean sprouts. I don't know if it was because i was cold and hungry, but it was the best!! How have I not known about this for my entire life?

Is he being serious though? Is he actually upset that you ordered chips from a Chinese? He's not being unreasonable, he's being a dick.

Are you OK?

ElephantsandTigers · 30/11/2017 21:18

You seriously can't let this go. When he gets over his bump on the head that turned him into a twat, you have to make him justify his wankiness.

shhhfastasleep · 30/11/2017 21:18

I can't bear chips from Chinese takeaway but I can't bear throwing a teddy out of the pram over it.
Hope you are feeling better, op.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 30/11/2017 21:19

What the hell. That’s the maddest thing I’ve even read about on MN.

juneybean · 30/11/2017 21:20

Wtf!? We always have chips with our Chinese. So bizarre.

HateIsNotGood · 30/11/2017 21:20

That pretty much sums up why I don't have a DP/OH/etc; they look a bit handy but the reality is just 'chips'.

wifeyhun · 30/11/2017 21:20

Always get chips with my Chinese.

Your DH is bonkers and would be in massive trouble if he spoke to me like that. He would be wearing his Chinese takeaway.

NurseButtercup · 30/11/2017 21:21

@dingleberries chipishoos

VileyRose · 30/11/2017 21:21

I always have chips with a Chinese. I can't believe he is sulking. I don't care what my OH eats!

SteamTrainsRealAleandOpenFires · 30/11/2017 21:21

'Arf 'n' 'Arf with either gravy, S&S or curry sauce on top. Grin

MrsJayy · 30/11/2017 21:21

We usually order a portion of chips with a chinese take away your husband is clearly an arse 😀

Iloveacurry · 30/11/2017 21:22

He’s bein an idiot. Ignore him and order what you want!

DaisysStew · 30/11/2017 21:22

If you weren't supposed to have chips with your Chinese then they wouldn't bloody sell them.

What's his problem with chips though? Because unless his parents were murdered by a bag of chips his reaction to you ordering them is ridiculous.
