Ordering chips, AIBU?

The local Chinese takeaway does really good chips. Amazing ones. Got to know this when they sent me some by accident a few weeks ago.

So tonight, DH and I order a takeaway and having been ill all week and struggling through it at work, I fancied treating myself to some of those amazing chips as a side to my meal.

DH strongly objected on two grounds; that I won't eat them all and that its not right to have chips as a side to Chinese food. As I was doing the order online, I just ignored him and added the chips.

When the meal arrived he got really would up about the chips being there, going on and on about how it wasn't a right thing to order, how I was wasting food, how it was unhealthy etc.... He wouldn't let it go and made a huge issue of it.

He then said that I'm banned from ever ordering chips with a Chinese takeaway again. He's now sulking in another room.

I accept that it's not in any way traditional, but they're so good, I feel like sh*t and wanted some extra carbs as a treat. I don't do it every time I order Chinese food. Was his reaction OTT or AIBU about the chips?

I do weird food things like
Eat banana with peanut butter
Dunk pizza in mayonnaise

But if anyone tried to tell me not to I would be "my stomach, my choices, I'm not forcing you to eat it"

Katedotness1963 · 30/11/2017 22:05

I am incredibly hungry now...

LoopyLou1981 · 30/11/2017 22:09

That’s hilarious! Order an omelette when you next order an indian and see if he has an even crazier reaction! 😂

ButchyRestingFace · 30/11/2017 22:10

You order whatever you like, pet. You’re a long time dead. Smile

And if the local Chinese takeaway didn’t want customers to order chips, they wouldn’t be an option on the menu.

Starlight2345 · 30/11/2017 22:11

We always do chips and rice and split them both .
As an adult you have full control over what you choose

MysweetAudrina · 30/11/2017 22:11

Every meal in all our Chinese takeaways comes with a choice of rice or chips. We usually order one of each.

Marcipex · 30/11/2017 22:12

Oh I could murder some chips. Especially with curry sauce.
It'll have to be tomorrow now.

OP, your DH is a total dick.

afrikat · 30/11/2017 22:14

Tell him I sometimes melt grated cheese over my Chinese food. His head will explode.
Also, he's being a tool

Ofthread · 30/11/2017 22:16

Order chips to be delivered to his work

expatinscotland · 30/11/2017 22:17

I'd tell him to go fuck himself, with a chip.

Elledouble · 30/11/2017 22:21

He says you’re not allowed chips... with a fatty greasy takeaway? I say he is a chippocrite Wink

LTB. Chinese takeaway chips are the best chips.

magimedi · 30/11/2017 22:21

As no one else has said it, let me be the first.

LTB.

Originalfoogirl · 30/11/2017 22:22

If you weren’t supposed to order them they wouldn’t be on the menu.

He’s a dick.

lalalalyra · 30/11/2017 22:22

He'd flip here. One of my DD's eats her chinese with chippy chips - which is wrong.

The chips are the chinese here are lovely. We always have half rice and half chips.

Also, if my DH told me I was banned from a certain food I think I would die laughing at him.

19lottie82 · 30/11/2017 22:23

I want Chinese chips and curry sauce now!!!!

Ellie56 · 30/11/2017 22:23

A Chinese meal is not complete without Chinese chips!

Your DH is a complete knobhead. Is he always like this? Tell him to get over himself.

Bambamber · 30/11/2017 22:24

Had to laugh about the chips being unhealthy when ordering a takeaway

DandySeaLioness · 30/11/2017 22:26

chips are unhealthy but Chinese is? What a controlling twat.

Ruffian · 30/11/2017 22:26

So this isn't one of those 'lighthearted' type things?? Bollocks to the chips, your H has serious issues.

BarbaraofSevillle · 30/11/2017 22:27

Chinese is not necessarily unhealthy. There are plenty of dishes that are just lean meat or prawns, vegetables and garlic/ginger/soy.

No one thinks chips are healthy, but they are fine as an occasional part of an otherwise healthy diet. Chinese can be one of the better takeaways compared to pizza, kebabs or burgers.

RunFatGirlRuuuuuun · 30/11/2017 22:29

ollivander both of those things are perfectly normal.
OP he sounds like a petulant twat. Is be seriously looking at my relationship

vilamoura2003 · 30/11/2017 22:29

You are a grown adult - if you want chips from the Chinese, you order chips. The OH reaction is controlling and unreasonable 🤔

JanetStWalker · 30/11/2017 22:30

Order two portions next time, OP.

RefuseTheLies · 30/11/2017 22:35

I'd buy 100 bags of chips and scatter them over him as he slept. Then I'd hook up with the guy from the takeaway in front of him. Whilst eating chips.

I’m dead Grin Grin Grin

AdidasGirl · 30/11/2017 22:36

In Wales we have what's called Half & Half.
It's half rice and half chips.
