Ordering chips, AIBU?

The local Chinese takeaway does really good chips. Amazing ones. Got to know this when they sent me some by accident a few weeks ago.

So tonight, DH and I order a takeaway and having been ill all week and struggling through it at work, I fancied treating myself to some of those amazing chips as a side to my meal.

DH strongly objected on two grounds; that I won't eat them all and that its not right to have chips as a side to Chinese food. As I was doing the order online, I just ignored him and added the chips.

When the meal arrived he got really would up about the chips being there, going on and on about how it wasn't a right thing to order, how I was wasting food, how it was unhealthy etc.... He wouldn't let it go and made a huge issue of it.

He then said that I'm banned from ever ordering chips with a Chinese takeaway again. He's now sulking in another room.

I accept that it's not in any way traditional, but they're so good, I feel like sh*t and wanted some extra carbs as a treat. I don't do it every time I order Chinese food. Was his reaction OTT or AIBU about the chips?

Chips from the Chinese are the best.
YANBU.

JourneyToThePlacentaOfTheEarth · 01/12/2017 08:46

Love having chips with our Chinese. Plus prawn crackers of course. Your husband sounds weird

WomblingThree · 01/12/2017 09:05

How the fuck did you ever get as far as marrying this utter twat? Were there honestly no signs of his control-freak behaviour before he got you down the aisle? I’m not a great one for LTB, but honestly, this is terrifying.

WomblingThree · 01/12/2017 09:09

Really @1DAD2KIDS? I would have thought the tip to take from this thread is not to marry an abusive, controlling twat, and I don’t think I’m the only one who is failing to see the humour in what the OP has posted.

therealposieparker · 01/12/2017 09:09

Chips and Chinese curry.... mmmm.... the fat crisp onions.

I would order chips and chinese every night until he got over himself.

therealposieparker · 01/12/2017 09:12

Wombling.... I agree this is vile behaviour and he is controlling, I suspect this is not the only area he displays this type of behaviour.

1DAD2KIDS · 01/12/2017 09:21

WomblingThree I did marry one of them, so that lesson learnt on that front.

I love the way you only have a go at me like I'm the only one who's made a light hearted comment on here.

WomblingThree · 01/12/2017 09:28

Maybe I just can’t be doing with men making stupid comments.

DamnItall · 01/12/2017 09:28

What an arse..

I will admit I don't have chip with my Chinese as I could eat noodles all day every day (Which means when I go home to Ireland; I get weirdo... comments and looks from my family for not wanting chips)

But I will always give in to a spice bag; God I crave one now.

LostInTheTunnelOfGoats · 01/12/2017 09:42

Your DH sounds like a complete freak, sorry. Who the fuck gets so wound up over other people's takeaway? I hope you told him to grow up

RestingBitchFaced · 01/12/2017 09:48

Were they salt and pepper chips? They are amazing from the Chinese. Always have chips with Chinese and Indian takeaway. Why the hell should he dictate what you eat? Knob

RestingBitchFaced · 01/12/2017 09:57

These are the salt and pepper chips for whoever was asking

Ordering chips, AIBU?
BabyLlama · 01/12/2017 10:26

Your DH is a twat. Who the hell does he think he is to dictate to you what you can and can't have? Moron!

Jenacles · 01/12/2017 10:31

Salt and pepper chips from the Chinese is the best thing ever

Babyiwantabump · 01/12/2017 10:32

Haven’t read the whole thread but we always get chips with a chinese

TheFickleFingerOfFate · 01/12/2017 11:57

Zeig Bloody Heil!
Tell him you LOVE the Chinese chips and sorry if it offends his sensibilities (I imagine he uses chopsticks) but sweet and sour chicken with chips is just fab!

Jux · 01/12/2017 13:48

I think you should have Chinese with chips for a week, just to let him know that if he tries to dictate to you you will take it as encouragement.

HamSandWitches · 01/12/2017 13:53

Say what....

I always have chips with a Chinese

Sweet and sour chicken, fried rice and chips
Beef and mushrooms, fried rice and chips

If there's just me I have chips, rice, curry or gravy in one carton.

BringMeCoffee · 01/12/2017 13:54

The only thing this thread has done is made me hungry.

VodkaLimeSoda27 · 01/12/2017 14:09

I think I'd have to sit there in front of him and eat chips for breakfast, lunch and dinner until he got the point but then again I can be a bit childish with stuff like that Wink

TheFickleFingerOfFate · 01/12/2017 14:20

Lol. Say what you mean!

maras2 · 01/12/2017 15:45

Might as well stick my 2 pennorth inSmile
Your DH is an uncultured eejit.
Everyone knows that Chinese chips are the best (except Mr.Too Cool for chips)

MadAboutYou · 01/12/2017 15:54

I always order Chinese Chips. My OH went to order the other day and came back mortified at having asked for "Chinese chips" because that's what i call them, the girl at the counter apparently responded with...you mean...chips?.

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 01/12/2017 15:58

It’s never crossed my mind to order chips with Chinese, but salt and pepper chips sound lush. I’ve just consulted Hungry House and our local offers salt and pepper chips and salt and pepper fries. Oh, the confusion! Which would be better?

Hoppinggreen · 01/12/2017 15:58

If it’s on grounds of authenticity I very much doubt most of the food from that takeaway is anything like genuine Chinese food anyway
I had a good friend who’s family owned a Chinese takeaway and f we ever called in her Mum wouid insist on making us “proper food”especially and not what they generally served!,
Anyway OP enjoy your chips
