To think the referendum results would have been different if the costs had been known?

I mean, almost £60bn. Really? Who would actually have supported this? Apparently we have no money, the cupboards are bare, there's no magic money tree... oh, except the money for the DUP, and this.

And who's going to pay the price for this? Not the richest, that's for sure. More economy-crushing cuts coming our way!

Yes, I imagine that hell is crossing the med by boat.

I expect your meaning behind that sentence is different from mine, however.

No to be honest op in my circle of friends no one has changed their minds either way except one who would have voted leave and he voted remain.

I think the country is still very very divided.

Rebeccaslicker · 29/11/2017 14:28

The leavers I know who have well reasoned arguments for leaving - rather than reasons I understand but see more as the result of generations of government failing to invest in those areas rather than the more close at hand reasons cited by some friends and family there - firmly believe that the EU has had its day; that it's corrupt; that it has made life a misery for many in Southern Europe to profit primarily Germany; and that we will be glad we are out of it.

I don't agree with a word, but I have no choice but to hope they are right. I also agree that a "them and us" attitude between London and the uk isn't remotely helpful, but anyone who denies it exists is really in denial. There's a real anger and bitterness towards what is perceived as the rich Londoners from some people. Investing in other areas and taking the focus off London would be the best way to deal with that IMHO.

Julie8008 · 29/11/2017 14:31

The way the EU has treated us since the referendum has demonstrated exactly why we voted to leave. I think if we had all known what was going to happen the majority to leave would have been a lot higher.

LineysRunner · 29/11/2017 14:35

What, a persecution complex?

RedToothBrush · 29/11/2017 14:35

How has the EU treated us since the referendum?

Please explain. I find it utterly baffling.

GreenPurpleRed · 29/11/2017 14:36

And up pops "Julie" to tell us all how lucky we are to have Brexit coming soon Hmm

RedToothBrush · 29/11/2017 14:37

I cant "explain why the UK has not been able to reduce immigration from outside the EU? Seeing as we have the ability to control our own borders". I think the answer might be that we are ruled by idiots.

The same idiots who now have more power as a direct result of Brexit?

Those idiots?

The UK public needs a reality check.

Yes they do.

lessworriedaboutthecat · 29/11/2017 14:42

I don't think the EU's idiots are any better than ours. Do you really think the likes of Junker and Tusk have the slightest clue how to avoid the coming apocalypse. Their just hoping they can put it off until its someone else's problem

TammySwansonTwo · 29/11/2017 14:43

Julie you think if we'd had a crystal ball and could have seen this play out, more people would have voted Leave?

Pull the other one.

TammySwansonTwo The number of people on this thread alone who have said the same thing outweighs those who have said the opposite so it's not too difficult to believe.

Although I think the largest majority think "Just get on with it already"!

ShowMeTheElf · 29/11/2017 14:46

Less I hope you are wrong.
Leaving the EU does not remove the UKs responsibility/moral imperative to help those in need.
Perhaps if we stop worrying about whether our neighbours are non-white, non-Christian and just worry about whether we can help them or they can help us we'll all be a lot better off.
As a Christian I do hope that people (Christian or not) are not becoming angry on my behalf because we have been given an opportunity to show who we are and share what we have.

RedToothBrush · 29/11/2017 14:46

how to avoid the coming apocalypse

WATCH OUT FOR THE ZOMBIES

I think when you find yourself arguing with people saying this, its time to just nod and move on. For your own sanity.

RedToothBrush · 29/11/2017 14:47

Although I think the largest majority think "Just get on with it already"!

This is far more representative I suspect.

lessworriedaboutthecat

Wow. Just wow. Any actual evidence for any of that? (Not taken from Infowars/Breitbart etc)

lessworriedaboutthecat · 29/11/2017 14:53

@highlight775 do you really want me fill several pages of the thread with links to reports of terrorist atrocities, arrests and grooming gangs.

lessworriedaboutthecat · 29/11/2017 14:54

showmetheelf It would be nice if the world was like that however human beings are nasty greedy selfish tribal creatures

Rebeccaslicker · 29/11/2017 14:56

Figures for Germany alone suggest that it spent £22bn on refugees in 2016 and its estimated to be a lot more than that in 2017.

Obviously countries like Syria are in a different situation but I do wonder if some of that money would have been better spent in trying to build opportunities in third world countries instead? Otherwise there is a risk that the strongest and fittest head for Europe and leave the poorer and weaker behind - meaning that the gap just gets bigger and bigger. Or is it too late for that now?

Considering the lies they spouted during the referendum campaign, I think it’s only right that we have another vote now that we have a clearer understanding of what it all means. People voted for rainbows and unicorns and a return to the good old days - the reality is rather different.

wasonthelist · 29/11/2017 14:59

Who would actually have supported this?

Me.
