To wonder why people assume posters are men when

poolCam · 29/11/2017 01:35

they don't like what they post.

There was a thread yesterday where a poster criticised the readability of another. Admittedly, the former was being goady but I do wonder why they immediately became a man in the eyes of others on the thread.

Does it show that there is in fact deep-seated sexism in both sexes?

I didn't say you seem upset OP, I asked why you care. If you really don't think the world is stacked in men's favour then that would explain it, but your examples are very uk centric, when I talked about the world over. Do women here cost the tax payer more though? I mean most crime is committed by men and that doesn't come cheap....

Oh and women live longer because of biology, if men cut their testicles off, they could live up to 10 years longer as testosterone is what sortens their lives, not women being mean.

Aahh

So they out earn men for a short period of time

Coolio

Cam, do you think male-dominated forums have almost monthly threads about how badly the women posting there are treated?

Of course they don't.

Yes, there are some heated exchanges between the more goady male posters here but it's really not that bad.

Women are less likely to kill themselves as they are not very good at committing suicide

Male suicide is a worry, but women attempt it at an equal rate

Have you a source for your stats OP?

Tal1kin

I have lived on each continent or each place you mention (except E. Europe) and am currently based in an Asian / African split.

Yes, I was basing it on UK stats but that's what I know. I'd say feminism has won because when I was marching in the 60's and 70's, I didn't consider Saudi Arabia and still don't know much about it.

Angels

You said "I can't get upset about ..." and I took the emphasis on the subject implying others (me) do.

I care because I don't think sex should ever be an insult and I care because I'm a little arrogant and don't like to not understand something. I don't think it's some incredible outrage that needs to be addressed but I also believe that small things can have a big effect.

You didn't answer my questions and ignored the entire premise of my post. I did read your reply as a tangent and not an obnoxious derailment but I'm interested in your answers.

So you really think that in Pakistan and rural India and sub Saharan Africa and the whole of the Gulf and Iran and the gang infested parts of Central America
that women have better economic outcomes than men
really ?

A link to 'my' other forum would be as outing as simply posting my name, NI number, address etc.

However, one of the longest running threads (38k+ replies) is about women in the sport. It's only a little in front of 'best curry' though ...

My question isn't about heated debates. It's about the PA switching from gender-neutral to masculine pronouns when it gets vaguely heated.

poolCam- do these mainly male forums you go on have regularl threads started by women wondering why the men aren't more accommodating to women? How if the men want to engage with women they should use gentler less aggressive language?

Report
poolCam · 29/11/2017 18:12

No Bertrand. The forum itself led a campaign against a sexist marketing campaign which led to an apology from the marketeers. The campaign was a naked woman holding the product over her nipples.

The word shit is blocked by the swear filter. What aggressive language do you imagine exists?

I don't know. But using aggressive lsnguage is one of the many things men accuse women of on this forum. I was just wondering if women did the same on mostly male ones.......

PoolCam if you don't see the value in female spaces, why on earth are you here??

I'm jolly surprised to learn that you went on marches in the 60s and 70s which puts you in the same age category as my mother - your posts here make you sound a lot younger. Especially the ones denying the existence of Patriarchy or claiming that the world does not favor men.

Because I don't see a public forum as a female space. I value it but not for it's single-sex-ness.

I was born in '55. I think the world has changed a lot in my lifetime and almost exclusively for the better.

Still does not make it true .....
Women .... are more likely to work in a relevant post-graduate position
Link please
Women ..... They out-earn men
Funny then that every stat seems to show the opposite IN THE UK

You are talking bilge. Regardless of what sex you are.

So you were marching in the 60s at age 5 to 10?

And you don't think MN is a female space?

Report
Weebo · 29/11/2017 18:48

Well MN is a female space. That's just a fact and I doubt even the (non-goady) men who post here would disagree.

How many threads are started by men here wanting a women's perspective? That's because it's a female space.

And there's nothing wrong with that.

First when I was 15. I think 2 in the 60s.

I don't consider it a female space simply because I have no idea who else is posting. I'm not sure if I'm confusing the terminology. I'd call something a female space when I know it's inhabited by women.

Yes, mostly women here.

The 2013 MN census said there was a 16% male cohort. Given that the men on here tend to be very vocal and intransigent, or at least defensive of their entitlement to post, rather than more casual posters who just "dip in" from time to time, I'd say that they are probably over-represented in that voluntary survey.

Mumsnet is still very much a predominantly female space.

I've literally never seen this happen, OP.

Can you link to some threads so I can see what you mean?

Because lately a growing number of the MN population hates men, and must throw the worst insult they can think at anyone who disagrees with them.
