Yes, it’s another Meghan thread... AIBU to think that it’s really disappointing that she left her dog behind?

I’m not a royalist.. or otherwise! Was mildly interested in the news and always happy for a bank holiday (which we probably aren’t getting anyway Hmm)

But I have followed her for a little bit recently on social media and she seemed to really love her dogs which I always find a lovely trait in a person Grin

So one dog is here, and one dog ‘is with friends’ and was apparently refused access to the uk / was too old to transport... surely when a dog is old is when he needs his owner the most? I’ve lived through that devastating time of losing a dog and they really find comfort in being with their owners. (I think)

They are rescues which she seems to advocate and I think this really sends the wrong message that they are a bit disposable. She is marrying into arguably the most powerful family in the world and she can’t get her dog here?! Hmm

I’m sure people will disagree. But just reading that and looking at my 10 year old dog sleeping on my feet, I could never leave him behind.

I bet it bit Harry.

I would. 😍

Do people really want to read a statement from the palace about Meghan Markle's dog situation?
Judging by all the online speculation and second guessing I think it would be a good way to shut everyone up. Plus it's far more interesting than the royal engagement Grin

AdaColeman · 28/11/2017 23:10

stef. At last someone’s talking sense on this thread! Xmas Grin

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 28/11/2017 23:12

Again, no. I’m married thanks and have kids...

But I just couldn’t believe the about turn from her previous ‘my dogs are everything’ persona. Funny that ‘rescues are everything and dogs are for life!’ Unless you meet a prince obvs.

Like that I’ve started a funny thread though, thanks Hmm

I want a statement from the dog itself, personally.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 28/11/2017 23:14

Apparently, the dog is large and didn’t suit Harry’s cottage.

And you got this piece of bullshit from where, exactly?

The rules are the same for everyone, from Joe Bloggs down the road to the Queen. You can't have one rule for the everyman and another for those that are rich and/or famous.

MarmaladeIsMyJam · 28/11/2017 23:16

What exactly do you want her to do though OP? Dog can’t be transported. She’s fell in love with someone on the other side of the world. Do you honestly just want her to stay in the USA till her dog dies?

MrLovebucket · 28/11/2017 23:19

From what I've read, the dog (Bogart) is now 6 years old so not old but we have no idea if he has any health issues that would mean the journey etc. would prove too much for him.

She won't have just abandoned him on a whim however much that might fit your narrative OP. She's not a stupid person, she's not going to sabotage her acceptance by the British public by dumping her dog for no good reason.

MrLovebucket · 28/11/2017 23:24

She has the larger dog with her, so the comment about the beagle being left in the US as it's too big for the house is ridiculous.

Yes, it’s another Meghan thread... AIBU to think that it’s really disappointing that she left her dog behind?
nooka · 28/11/2017 23:25

I imagine that the OP would have preferred the dog to be brought to the UK to live with her hitherto very devoted owner and companion dog.

The only requirements that DEFRA give on importing dogs is that they are certified to be rabies free. That requires the dog to be microchipped and given a rabies injection and then a titre test 30 days later. Or just proof of vaccination if it's already had a rabies jab. This dog was previously moved from the States to Canada which also requires proof of rabies vaccination.

Note this is not an elderly dog.

YouNosyTwat · 28/11/2017 23:26

OP isn't listening to reason or understanding that she doesn't have all the facts, she just wants to bitch unnecessarily.

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 28/11/2017 23:27

Bogart is the bigger dog. A Labrador shepherd mix..,

Guy the beagle is in the UK

NosyTwat - what reason or understanding am I not listening to? Hmm

nooka · 28/11/2017 23:29

Reports seem a bit mixed but most say it's the beagle that's in the UK MrLoveBucket, the shepherd cross (Bogart) has been left behind (either with her mum or friends depending on the report). Some earlier reports said that he was only staying while the tests completed.

Not sure why I'm invested in this beyond having done the research previously in case we needed to bring our dog back to the UK.

Ceto · 28/11/2017 23:30

Do you think it's just possible that she knows and loves her dog better than you do, OP, and is in a better position to judge what is best for it?

MrLovebucket · 28/11/2017 23:32

Ah right OP I got them arse backwards - could have sworn I read that Bogart was the beagle!

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 28/11/2017 23:32

Sure. Like lots of threads on mumsnet I imagine.

I was just shocked to see that the person who massively pushed foreword her dog living image, has left one of her dogs behind. It’s a fair question, despite the hysteria.

This 100%.

LoverOfCake · 28/11/2017 23:37

I have been in the position of bringing dogs over to the UK from another country and I can honestly say I would never do it again. The stress on especially one of them was horrendous and he lived for only a few months after coming back to the UK.

And the reality is, it's a dog. Dogs are fickle creatures. Rehome it to someone who loves it and it honestly won't care.

Rainbowandraindrops67 · 28/11/2017 23:42

I agree with you op

I don’t really like her - she comes across as a person who will do or say whatever it takes to benefit her but has no real moral compass underneath - she shouldn’t be ditching her charity work either.

The poor dog

MsGameandWatching · 28/11/2017 23:42

I bet it bit Harry.

Grin that’s exactly what I thought. It doesn’t like him.
