Yes, it’s another Meghan thread... AIBU to think that it’s really disappointing that she left her dog behind?

I’m not a royalist.. or otherwise! Was mildly interested in the news and always happy for a bank holiday (which we probably aren’t getting anyway Hmm)

But I have followed her for a little bit recently on social media and she seemed to really love her dogs which I always find a lovely trait in a person Grin

So one dog is here, and one dog ‘is with friends’ and was apparently refused access to the uk / was too old to transport... surely when a dog is old is when he needs his owner the most? I’ve lived through that devastating time of losing a dog and they really find comfort in being with their owners. (I think)

They are rescues which she seems to advocate and I think this really sends the wrong message that they are a bit disposable. She is marrying into arguably the most powerful family in the world and she can’t get her dog here?! Hmm

I’m sure people will disagree. But just reading that and looking at my 10 year old dog sleeping on my feet, I could never leave him behind.

And do any of the critics on here believe that dog has been rehomed somewhere unsuitable, inadequate and unloving? Or do they accept that it's gone to a good home where it will be happy? In which case, the problem is..?

RuncibleSp00n · 29/11/2017 14:06

NamasteNiki

Im glad it was coming across. Vile creatures. They eat shit and carrion. Why would anyone want to own one.

^THIS!!^ 100% agree! Grin

Dogs are dirty, but they have personality. Personality goes a long way.

MulhuddartDrive · 29/11/2017 16:37

I can't believe no one has mentioned the Yes Prime Minister episode

turdconsultant · 29/11/2017 16:54

So long as they get to sneer at someone else.

We have a dedicated board for dog "lovers" to sneer.

nooka · 29/11/2017 16:55

I assume that there was a good reason why this dog was left behind, and I'm sure that it will be perfectly happy with friends (I certainly hope so). I just don't understand why it wasn't possible to bring him to the UK. Importing a dog from the US or Canada is not difficult. The days of long quarantines are over. There is lots of paperwork, it's expensive and there is a long flight involved but I can't imagine that any of that would be that challenging for this particular couple (and they have done it for one of the dogs).

I'm also not sure why so many people have decided that this dog was old and ill. Last year when Meghan talked about him he was about four. Four is a young dog. She has previously taken him from LA to Toronto so he has already traveled internationally and most likely flown (5 hr flight vs 3 day drive). He will have had rabies vaccinations (required in California and for import into Canada) so at the most would have to prove immunity.

It just seems a bit odd for someone who has previously spoken about how much they love their dogs to leave one behind and I find it very hard to believe that he was denied entry. I assume that there is some other reason, perhaps a friend who really wants to keep him, he doesn't cope well with change or he doesn't like Harry. who knows.

Battleax · 29/11/2017 16:59

Totally agree that some dog owners on here are selfish. They'll keep the dog with them no matter what because it's all about them and their needs and not the dog's.

Which is kind of my point about her taking one along and this splitting the pair.

I think the truly caring thing to do would have been to left them together.

But however many pages in and nobody's really addressed that option.

turdconsultant · 29/11/2017 17:03

I'm sure her publicist will be on soon.

Lweji · 29/11/2017 17:04

Do you even know if they get along?

ShowMeTheElf · 29/11/2017 17:05

The dog would have needed to go into quarantine. The dog would hate quarantine and is too old to cope with it. The dog is happy with another person in the US.

She didn't lock it in her apartment without food or water and jump on a plane.

MikeUniformMike · 29/11/2017 17:06

5th in line to the thrown what?

Exactly.

Battleax · 29/11/2017 17:14

Enough to be photographed together a LOT apparently (if google image search is any guide Smile) and they've been constant companions for years.

Better to leave them as familiar company for each other.

Lweji · 29/11/2017 17:16

You know what they say about FB photos. They're just for show. I bet those dogs just pulled the smiles for the camera and were bitches to each other.

nooka · 29/11/2017 17:17

No, the dog would not need to go into quarantine. That's not been a requirement for North America for a long time. You just have to prove that dogs have been vaccinated from rabies. At the worst you have to revaccinate, wait 30 days and do a blood test. Oh and they might need tapeworm treatment too (usually one pill). All of which can be done before travel.

Battleax · 29/11/2017 17:18

Grin

They're boys.

Lweji · 29/11/2017 17:20

They could identify as bitches for all you know.

Battleax · 29/11/2017 17:22

Trans gets literally everywhere Smile

JonSnowsWife · 29/11/2017 17:22

I'm fairly confident if the alternative was marrying a Prince of the United Kingdom, you'd somehow summon the strength to leave a dog in the care of friends.

Yep. Agree with pasturesgreen.

We had to give an old family dog up. He'd been my best friend since I was a child and I was heartbroken.
I was pregnant and homeless and couldn't take Ddog into the hostel with me. I had no choice but to hand him over to a rescue.

She's not given him up completely she's left him with friends. I'm sure she'll be paying visits and has left the dog in good care with her friends.

JonSnowsWife · 29/11/2017 17:24

If the dog is old nooka it might be more to do with whether or not he'd survive the journey rather than quarantine issues.

Lweji · 29/11/2017 17:25

Not if it was Charles, Andrew or Edward.

treeofhearts · 29/11/2017 17:27

Of course they could get him in. That's not the point. Do you know how stressful it is for dogs to fly? At his age the stress could kill him. She hasn't dumped him, he is being cared for by people he knows.

MrLovebucket · 29/11/2017 17:27

According to MM the dogs get on very well together. Perhaps the friend/family member wasn't able to take on both of the dogs? All we can do is speculate in that respect.

Yes the dog has flown before. Perhaps he found it incredibly traumatic (many animals do) so MM felt it would be cruel to put him through that again. I've seen plenty of tales of petrified dogs/cats arriving covered in their own shit after a long haul journey. Some animals can't even tolerate a short car journey without puking let alone a transatlantic flight.

ElephantsandTigers · 29/11/2017 17:33

I was a little bit Hmm at first until I read DDog was too old to travel. Him staying with close friends he know she is kinder than a plane ride that may stress him out so much it could kill him.

I have a DDog and she is my whole world. When we come to move her needs will be top of the list, then the kids Grin. In a previous life I did chose a pet, my cat, over a man. I left him. Took her. He was violent to her and technically was his as his idea to get her but once he'd kicked her after hitting me twice previously I was out of there.

I can see both sides but come down on the she's done the right thing for the DDog side.
