Yes, it’s another Meghan thread... AIBU to think that it’s really disappointing that she left her dog behind?

I’m not a royalist.. or otherwise! Was mildly interested in the news and always happy for a bank holiday (which we probably aren’t getting anyway Hmm)

But I have followed her for a little bit recently on social media and she seemed to really love her dogs which I always find a lovely trait in a person Grin

So one dog is here, and one dog ‘is with friends’ and was apparently refused access to the uk / was too old to transport... surely when a dog is old is when he needs his owner the most? I’ve lived through that devastating time of losing a dog and they really find comfort in being with their owners. (I think)

They are rescues which she seems to advocate and I think this really sends the wrong message that they are a bit disposable. She is marrying into arguably the most powerful family in the world and she can’t get her dog here?! Hmm

I’m sure people will disagree. But just reading that and looking at my 10 year old dog sleeping on my feet, I could never leave him behind.

It's kinder to leave the dog there if it is very old, it's probably familiar with her friends that will take care of it. I doubt she just dumped it on any random person and then did a runner to the UK!

She's in love with a prince, she would be mad not to choose to leave the dog (in a good home!)

Roussette · 28/11/2017 22:36

Yeah, it is too funny, but hang on a minute... she's leaving her Mum behind too! Sacrilege. Awful woman.

crumpet · 28/11/2017 22:37

“He’s Harry Windsor not Harry fucking Potter” GrinGrinGrin

Money and status does not equal happiness in many cases.

But I suppose one can be miserable in comfort including the dogs.

YouNosyTwat · 28/11/2017 22:37

"I'd love to see the headlines if it got out that the Royal Family pulled rank to get an ageing canine into the UK"

Did the headline, think of the Mumsnet threads that there'd be! It'd be Bitter Betty Central.

YouNosyTwat · 28/11/2017 22:38

*sod the headlines not did the

I'm not sure why people are convinced this is an old dog. Last year Meghan talked about her dogs in an interview when she said he was about three years old. She got him in California so he will have had his rabies injections there and if not he can get the jab, wait a month, be tested for antibodies and then cleared to fly. It's something we had to investigate for our dog and not too complicated. The flight itself might be an issue if the dogs are in LA, but she's had them in Toronto before so they have flown, although it's a long flight to the UK from the west coast.

hazymoon · 28/11/2017 22:48

The poor dog could be pining for her, but on the other hand i'm pleased she didn't get preferential treatment like the rich and famous often do. I wonder if it was the other way round, would Harry be allowed to take a dog into the US. I can't see the royals getting refused anything.

ThisLittleKitty · 28/11/2017 22:48

It's a dog. Who cares.

WhatALoadOfOldBollocks · 28/11/2017 22:49

Seems odd to leave one behind as the "hard, long process of getting approval" would've been the same for both surely? There is speculation that Bogart, the dog left behind, was old but he looks younger than Guy, the one who's in the UK. Hopefully the palace spokesperson will issue a proper statement rather than just saying it's a permanent decision that wasn't taken lightly, so people can stop speculating.

nibora · 28/11/2017 22:50

But the dog hardly sees her anyway, I bet it couldn't give a stuff.

AdaColeman · 28/11/2017 22:51

The real reason that she hasn’t brought the dog is that it’s a Hienz 57, so couldn’t mingle with the Royal Pure Corgies.
She’s been allowed to bring the other dog because it’s a beagle, so gets the Royal Seal of Approval for being a huntin’ shootin’ style dog.

nibora · 28/11/2017 22:51

I bet it bit Harry.

Sparklingbrook · 28/11/2017 22:53

Do people really want to read a statement from the palace about Meghan Markle's dog situation? Grin

MarmaladeIsMyJam · 28/11/2017 22:54

OP. You would genuinely not get married or start a family till your dog died? You think she should put her life on hold totally?

ButchyRestingFace · 28/11/2017 22:56

I bet it bit Harry.

He's probably used to it, what with those feral corgis tearing about chez granny's.

WorraLiberty · 28/11/2017 22:56

Well it survived when she did humanitarian work in Rwanda.

Not everyone has a 9-5 job and dogs do tend to adapt pretty quickly. As long as they're loved, fed, exercised and warm, they're pretty much happy creatures as a rule.

QueenThisTime · 28/11/2017 22:56

She knows the dog, maybe she wanted it to be happy and thought putting an old dog through a stressful process of moving countries would be no fun for it - even if strings could be pulled - and it would be happier being rehomed with a friend?

Lweji · 28/11/2017 22:57

Do people really want to read a statement from the palace about Meghan Markle's dog situation?

Clearly, they do. With weekly updates. And photos.

CaptainBrickbeard · 28/11/2017 22:57

I've read some utterly ridiculous complaints about Kate but I honestly think this is stupider than all of them. Do we really need an official statement about a dog? FFS. This thread is desperately clutching at straws to find something to criticise her for. It is the flimsiest, most nonsensical reason for taking against anyone. I'm all for a discussion of the royal family, their role and importance or otherwise but seizing on the women who marry into it and searching for something to pick - and coming up with this arse about a dog???? - it is painfully trite.

Valentine2 · 28/11/2017 22:58

I was also disappointed that she is leaving her UN work behind. That's what I liked her best for. Why leave such a brilliant opportunity to bring change worldwide? We have plenty jobless royals taking care of work inside of UK. Hmm

ButchyRestingFace · 28/11/2017 22:58

OP. You would genuinely not get married or start a family till your dog died?

If you did that, chances are the little fucker would decide to make a run for a place in the Guinness Book of Records, and live til it was about 28. Grin

AuldHeathen · 28/11/2017 22:59

Nah, the British royal family isn’t powerful, they’re just very rich. Maybe she’s got somebody in the US who’ll care for and love the dog for as long as it needs it, and she can jet over to see it regularly. Of course it could just be the yanks don’t love their animals like the Brits love theirs. Another area for culture shock for the poor woman. It’s not something l’d have noticed so thanks for pointing this out to us. Smile

MarmaladeIsMyJam · 28/11/2017 22:59

True as fuck Butchy

ArcheryAnnie · 28/11/2017 22:59

A very elderly dog is not something that can easily be transported a long way. It may not even survive a flight. Leaving it with friends who know it, in familiar circumstances, would seem to be the kindest thing.
