To be devastated with my new carpet

Justalittlelemondrizzle · 27/11/2017 20:23

Had a new carpet fitted on my landing and stairs today. It looked darker in the shop than it looks on my stairs. So it's a mid/light grey. But it looks blue. I hate it. I'm devastated. We can't afford to buy another carpet so I was wondering if there was anything we could do to tone down the blueness. We have off white walls throughout and light oak laminate in the hall. It looks fine upstairs but on the actual stairs it looks hideous. Any ideas?

This is like that dress. Yes it looks a dull blue to me too.

NachoAddict · 27/11/2017 20:45

Definitely looks grey to me. I had the same problem when we painted the living room walls grey, they ended up a kind of lavender /blue.

SaucyJack · 27/11/2017 20:45

Wear sunglasses indoors?

Looks fine to me btw. Looks like a carpet TBH.

NellGin · 27/11/2017 20:46

It looks nice OP.

Justalittlelemondrizzle · 27/11/2017 20:47

V's upstairs which I'm happy with.

It looks great - and definitely grey.

notangelinajolie · 27/11/2017 20:49

Agree with the dimming the lighting suggestions.

If that fails you could do what we had to do recently and change the wall colour. We replaced the dark walnut floor in our kitchen with a medium oak and it made my ivory kitchen units look yellow. We tried a few paint testers and found that painting the walls a darker shade took all the yellowness away.

YABU.

I am devastated that a friend has just died suddenly.

Please get a grip. And look up the meaning of devastated.

Snapespeare · 27/11/2017 20:50

‘Devastated’?

Get a grip love.

BuzzKillington · 27/11/2017 20:50

Looks very blue to me, in the stairs photos.

You will get used to it.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 27/11/2017 20:51

Grey as a grey thing.

Norugratsatall · 27/11/2017 20:51

Gosh, colours look totally different in those two photos! Can light really make that much of a difference?!

MsJudgemental · 27/11/2017 20:52

Both look grey to me.

It looks grey to me but upstairs does look a lighter shade.
One of the first pics you posted has a blue shade to it on the left, is that a shadow?

Tiredtomybones · 27/11/2017 20:54

It looks grey to me, and very nice it is too!

ThisLittleKitty · 27/11/2017 20:54

Yeh the hallway looks better, more grey. The stairs definitely look blue to me.

Rebeccaslicker · 27/11/2017 20:56

People are being mean. If you spent a lot of money and you're not happy and you have to live with it, I get why you're upset. There's no need to make the OP feel worse!

I think it looks fine - and the suggestions about the lighting or paint might help. You will also get used to it!

CheshireChat · 27/11/2017 20:56

Get bulbs that mimic sunlight as that's the main difference, but I think it looks steel grey in the first photo and a brownish grey in the second.

I like the first one more Wink.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 27/11/2017 20:56

If you're anything like us it will get so grubby soon you won't recognise the colour anymore.

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 27/11/2017 20:57

It's that bloody dress that broke the internet again, isn't?

It looks grey to me,, but whats the blue bit/shadow as another poster said?

TinselTwins · 27/11/2017 20:57

You can buy carpet dye on Amazon, might achieve the darker grey look you're after

BrizzleDrizzle · 27/11/2017 21:01

It's brown upstairs and the bit at the bottom of the stairs looks gray on the right and blue on the left as if something has been spilt on part of it, making it look blue.

Doubletrouble42 · 27/11/2017 21:01

I think thats my carpet!

cathyclown · 27/11/2017 21:03

It's gorgeous, and new, and lovely.

Go ahead and dye it if you want. But that is a total overreaction.

And devastated? Feck sake.
