To think that if I was Serena Williams, I'd be a bit disappointed in my wedding photos?

From the description, it's clear she went all out, which is fair enough when you've earned millions through your own hard work. And it all sounds incredible, but the pictures in Vogue don't really do it justice, in my opinion. I've seen much cheaper weddings look better (just in terms of framing and how you take the shot etc). Unless she kept all the best pictures private? Or she had multiple photographers and this is just one view?

Vladimirs is right about MAN racism. The number of golliwog threads, the wide eyed pretence with the silly "I Don't Understand Whhhhhhy" goady titles. "oh we've allllways had this toy at home growing up..everybody did..blah blah

"Gollys are aren't racist" is clear racism though isn't? Innuendo also becomes pretty clear after a while.

The disgusting golly-apologists ARE always outnumbered too, which is reassuring.

This thread is clearly largely vapid bitching but I wouldn't like to make an accusation that it's racist, because there isn't any evidence for that.

Battleax · 21/11/2017 20:56

"Gollys aren't racist" is clear racism^

caperberries · 21/11/2017 21:02

I don't find this thread racist at all. There are some undertones, admittedly

Have you got the right thread? Confused

particularly Beyonce and Serena. It ALWAYS leads to racist comments.

Always? So where are the racist comments here then?

Serena - the usual type comments.

What usual racist comments? Confused

We all know and see what they are, and this post is bound to bring them out

Where? Confused

Why tell a poster to provide proof?

Because it's just plain daft and nutjob behaviour to claim posters are something, or have said something, which does not exist. Can you provide evidence for your claim?

Pretending not to see something doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

Pretending to see something doesn't mean it exists. Show us!

One of the greatest female athletes of our time and im reading comments about how her boobs look in a dress ffs

The thread is about her wedding photos, not her tennis prowess, you did get that, didn't you? Confused

thebestnamesweretaken · 21/11/2017 21:09

I'd be more disappointed in that $2.5m dress 😳😳

derxa · 21/11/2017 21:11

I don't find this thread racist at all. There are some undertones, admittedly Yes there are undertones of racism about SW. Jibes about her shape. I applaud her strength of character overcoming racism all these years.

specialsubject · 21/11/2017 21:13

She is one of the worlds top athletes, there's nothing wrong with her shape. There is everything wrong with that ghastly dress that made her look silly.

oldlaundbooth · 21/11/2017 21:15

WTAF Hmm

Racist? No.

It's just a trashy wedding is all.

Colour doesn't come into it.

RoseWhiteTips · 21/11/2017 21:15

The dress is awful. Awful. The end.

Anniegetyourgun · 21/11/2017 21:16

I don't think anyone on this thread (and not many people in the world) would comment negatively on how Serena Williams's boobs looked in a dress. It was about how they (and the rest of her) looked in that particular dress, for which she had, we gather, handed over an inordinate amount of money to the very best-regarded designers. It's not as if it is a difficult thing to make Serena Williams look fabulous. What they seem to have done (IMO and that of many others, it seems) is pull off the incredibly difficult feat of making her look slightly less fabulous than usual. Fortunately she wore two different outfits later on that let her shine through again.

I'm not going to grumble about the pervasiveness of boobs. The majority of the people in those photos are sportspeople and/or celebrities, and Californian to boot. Slinky and figure-revealing dress is pretty much standard wear, not to say required at special occasions. So let's not comment on the taste. It's not British middle-class taste, but it wasn't supposed to be. And they did all look pretty good with it jealous. However, there's no way anyone outshone the bride. There may have been too many flounces on the first dress but it was certainly spectacular, and in case anyone has forgotten the most important point, it contained Serena Williams, not a woman who is easily out-shone. Well, maybe the baby did - babies tend to do that. Especially gorgeous ones.

Slight girl crush? Well maybe...

runwalkrun · 21/11/2017 21:16

I think she looks lovely.
Her baby is gorgeous and her new husband is easy on the eye.

runwalkrun · 21/11/2017 21:20

Pearl clutching fools. I know someone will come along to say 'well if it was victoria beckham' or whatever whomever it'd be the same thing. Nope. Fuck all that. And it didn't start with Serena.

Vladimir, are you alright?
You seem a bit angst ridden.
It's a couple of pics of a wedding dress.
Possibly a bit of a lie down is in order?

I meant, there are some classist undertones. Not racist.

grasspigeons · 21/11/2017 21:21

well they are better than my wedding photographs.
I think they give quite a feel for the event, and lots of the expressions look naturally joyful.

The80sweregreat · 21/11/2017 21:25

I bet she doesnt care. She is a fabulous player and won it all and now has it all. She is an icon. Im not a fan of hers, but she looked so happy. Good for her.

Anniegetyourgun · 21/11/2017 21:25

Gosh, look at that, I've loused up on the formatting. That's not a mistake I make too often. Should have used creepy wee brackets instead of asterisks. That'll be a lesson to me, commenting on a thread about dresses, me with all the style of a... person who doesn't have style.

pisacake · 21/11/2017 21:32

"The number of golliwog threads"

I just did an Advanced search for the last 12 months, there are 2 threads "AIBU To assume someone who has a gollywog from childhood is racist?"

and "AIBU to want to ban golliwogs"

runwalkrun · 21/11/2017 21:32

Come on, it's a bit sanctimonious to get so offended about random people criticising some wedding photos published in Vogue.
Everyone can have an opinion on what people are wearing or the standard of the photography

Too true. There's a lot of unnecessary pearl clutching going on.
I thought she looked really nice in the majority of the photos.
Others didn't.
We're all entitled to say what we think. Those photos are in a magazine.

People will buy the magazine and think and say positive or negative things about them.
It's what happens when you make your photos public and people LOOK at them.

People need to grow a pair and stop whinging.
I'm sure Serena's not that bothered.
It's why she's a champion.

lifeisasongworthsinging · 21/11/2017 22:02

No Flowerpot - You are the one who is daft. Don't aim to tell me what racist overtones are. Serena gets numerous comments about her figure, mostly based on racist tropes. As opposed to NOT being a woman whose figure is constantly ridiculed. & here we have another thread ridiculing how she looks.

Don't ask me to provide proof of anything. I see enough posters commenting on looking up previous posts. So go look.

Instead of picking apart my post as if you would ever know more about the racist undertones regarding black women's physical form than I would.

She's a woman who's just become a mum and is getting married. Im not about to sit here and bitch about her figure etc. Same as I wouldn't if she were not a black woman. I see no merit in it as something worth defending.

TheFaerieQueene · 21/11/2017 22:06

What a bunch of horrible bitches on this thread.

She is a phenomenal athlete who has recently given birth. Good luck to her.

I have. I have been through the entire thread. I cannot see a single racist post. That's why I asked you to provide proof to back up your claim that this thread has them.

But you know, if you can't you can't. Hmm

lifeisasongworthsinging · 21/11/2017 22:11

They've likely deleted most of the threads since they get out of hand - ie we take them apart for what they are and only at that stage, are they deleted.

They aren't deleted from Google, however. mumsnetgolliwogthreads throws up more than 10 & that's only on 1st page.

How can anyone who's been here more than a year or 2 claim never to have noticed this has been a thing anyway. MNs penchant for it has even been discussed on other forums

FlowerPot1234 · 21/11/2017 22:19

lifeisasongworthsinging

ie we take them apart for what they are

I see, you're back again. Well I invite you yet again, take apart this thread then and support your claim that it has racist posts on it.

ShirleyPhallus · 21/11/2017 22:29

It’s not racist at all to suggest that her chest isn’t supported in the way it could be, and should be considering how much she paid for that dress.....
