To think that if I was Serena Williams, I'd be a bit disappointed in my wedding photos?

From the description, it's clear she went all out, which is fair enough when you've earned millions through your own hard work. And it all sounds incredible, but the pictures in Vogue don't really do it justice, in my opinion. I've seen much cheaper weddings look better (just in terms of framing and how you take the shot etc). Unless she kept all the best pictures private? Or she had multiple photographers and this is just one view?

I think everyone looks happy and especially the bride and groom - that's enough and makes a great wedding

AngelaTwerkel · 21/11/2017 12:48

"She knew the photos would be in Vogue which makes them fair game for internet comment."

But why does that have to mean negative comment? Why do people instantly have to revert to words like "tacky" and "awful"?

CardinalCat · 21/11/2017 12:48

bravo on winning most pointlessly catty thread of 2017, OP. bravo.

raisinsarenottheonlyfruit · 21/11/2017 12:50

WTF are you all on about?

The photos look stunning.

I tell you what's "missing" - they haven't been photoshops to within an inch of their lives.

Good on Serena for publishing a beautiful photo of herself with slightly squished boobs. She could have demanded she was photoshopped. But here she is looking absolutely stunning and also like a real human being at the same time.

If you look at this glossy mag rubbish you'll have been trained into expecting a false idea of "perfection" that's totally unobtainable in RL.

Very shallow indeed to be going on about this IMO.

quencher · 21/11/2017 12:51

The person I haven’t seen is her dad.

Xennialish · 21/11/2017 12:52

I think they're gorgeous ... feel like I am looking at different photos! I love that the guests have comfy chairs for the ceremony, the cape in profile is stunning and the party looks like an actual fun night independent of being a wedding reception. Second dress and shoe combo is perfect for her too. The group photos are self consciously stagey which works with the art gallery setting IMO.

ifyoucantstandtheheat · 21/11/2017 12:52

Beautiful talented lady and beautiful pictures.

Can't believe the bitchiness on this thread.

KurriKurri · 21/11/2017 12:52

I guess they allowed some 'public' photos and have some private ones.
I would also guess that if you are that famous, you can eother try to keep it private and then be intruded on by people trying to take photos, hiding in bushes etc. Or you can allow a certain amount of publicity.

I think she looks great, and her baby is so cute. Venus looks stunning - I think they are both very beautiful and talented women (although I think Serena comes out with some weird views sometimes)

Rocksyluv · 21/11/2017 12:52

I loved the cape / train thing, it was gorgeous, however have to agree that the bust of the dress was very wrong. She was glowing, handsome hubby and her little one is adorable.

IvankaTrudeau · 21/11/2017 12:53

Thanks Cardinal! Grin

In my defence, I never said she looked rubbish. I think she looked amazing. I read all the descriptions before I saw the photos and thought it all sounded amazing and then the photos didn't live up to that. They didn't even take a good photo of Beyonce and she is both incredibly beautiful and photogenic!

For people who are wondering about the venue, it's a contemporary art gallery in New Orleans.

CopperHandle · 21/11/2017 12:53

I genuinely hope she had an amazing day and is very happy.

Not that my opinion matters, but I'm not a fan of the dresses, they don't look like the fit well. And call me old fashioned (though I'm 26), there's a lot of women showing a lot more flesh then I'd think appropriate for a wedding.

Lucked · 21/11/2017 12:53

I think the staged photos with the wedding party seated are not flattering to any of them and I hope they got some standing too. Otherwise I think the photos are fine. I too prefer the top of the second dress but wedding dresses are a very personal choice.

Lots be the hydrangeas, remind me of my wedding.

Plexie · 21/11/2017 12:56

Well if you have your wedding photos published in Vogue you should expect people to talk about them.

Anyway, I've no idea who Harley Viera-Newton is (her wedding photos follow Serena's on the Vogue photo roll) but her wedding looked lovely. Apart from the bridesmaids' dresses.

Xennialish · 21/11/2017 12:58

Those bridesmaids' dresses were cruel , especially given how gorgeous her own two gowns were.

Oblomov17 · 21/11/2017 12:59

I agree. The photos aren’t flattering.

My favourite photo is when she’s changed into a shorter dress, with tennis shoes on, dancing with her arms straight out in front of her.

Happydoingitjusttheonce · 21/11/2017 12:59

Pallisers I didn’t comment on their happiness or otherwise, I agree they do look happy. But this looks like a magazine shoot.

RaquelWelch · 21/11/2017 12:59

And look at Beyoncé! That dress was trying so hard to be centre of attention at someone else's wedding! Not good

quencher · 21/11/2017 13:00

there's a lot of women showing a lot more flesh then I'd think appropriate for a wedding. I have never understood this comment and I asked it a lot of threads and comments about weddings.
If you are secure in the person you are marrying, what others were should not be a problem. (If that’s the gist of the comment, here to steal your man, I think). If it’s based on getting married in the church, she isn’t getting married in the church. So, by my logic, I don’t know why people are complaining. I guess it would be the same people who will complain about any tiny bit of white on guest at the wedding.

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 21/11/2017 13:00

Cattiest thread of 2017? What? Grin
It's a shame we can't give our honest opinions on such trivial matters as a dress without getting told off.

MerryMarigold · 21/11/2017 13:01

The assembled norks, not just Serena's, have stolen the show.

^This 100%. It's a bit hard to notice anything else.

KC225 · 21/11/2017 13:04

Am I seeing something different? I thought it looked lovely. Glitzy perhaps not tack at all. I like all the 'getting ready photography' I thought she looked beautiful, they both look so happy. And that baby is scrumptious.

MarshaBradyo · 21/11/2017 13:06

It’s most likely the lighting and venue, art galleries tend to be very brightly lit

The next set of photos has candle light which is much softer - agree on those bridesmaid dresses, odd choice

FlowerPot1234 · 21/11/2017 13:06

Does the OP mean the quality of the photographs or the content?

I think the quality is poor, they don't seem a high standard or very artistic.

I think the bride did not look her best and the dress and hair was absolutely awful on her. The catwalk was tacky and self-absorbed in my opinion. The guests nevertheless looked like they had a good time, and most people looked happy and had fun and their smiles were nice to see in the photos.

oldlaundbooth · 21/11/2017 13:08

Jesus it just looks cheap and tacky. Would not be my cup of tea at all.

The photo with the carousel looks really cold, like it's taken in a warehouse or something.

The model with the long straight black hair is stunning, not sure who she is.

Serena looks very uncomfortable in that dress, the baby is a total bobbin, grandma looks so proud.

KungFuEric · 21/11/2017 13:08

I think the quality of the photography is disappointing, the lighting and composition just seem lacking.

The bride herself looked beautiful, I noticed how strikingly she looked in the head shot of her having her make up done (brow envy!) but feel she was let down by an ill fitting dress. From a vogue/fashion perspective it wouldn't make for a good advert for that designer.
