To spray a bit of perfume on the bus.

I don't want to sound horrible about people with strong body odour, , but some do positively honk when i'm on the bus. Today a man sat in front of me and the smell nearly took my breath away. Wibu to spray a bit of impulse round my neck. Anyone else do this.

Mard you have a point, but if i had a reaction like that i'd be very frightened to use public transport. It's also very selfish and unreasonable to get on a bus stinking to high heaven.

Impulse on top of BO would be like toilet cleaner in a stinky toilet. Not a particularly good combination.

MissWilmottsGhost · 20/11/2017 16:14

YABU

Perfume stinks and make me want to throw up. Just because you like the smell doesn't mean anyone else does.

The combination of a bad odour and a strong chemical smell is particularly revolting.

ZombieVampireHedgehog · 20/11/2017 16:14

If people just washed

What about the homeless, or people who don't have access to warm water, people who can't afford to heat their water as they'd rather have some heat. People with broken boilers. Women in the menopause absolutely mortified about how they smell after a hot flush, teenagers unaware of their body odour as puberty arrives, people who suffer from hyperhydrosis.

I know of a child who got picked on for smelling and the poor mite had started puberty young. Dr's said to avoid anti perspirents as she had a skin condition and it would be like a red rag to a bull. Parents were moaning their kids were moaning, the child's parents group were like what can you do. A special roll on that was meant to prevent severe perspiration didn't work. That was prescription grade stuff.

If that was your child what would you do?

hiddley · 20/11/2017 16:15

The man could be homeless with no access to washing facilities. He could have shit himself. Who knows. Unpleasant, but you'd be better off just covering your nose and mouth.

kaytee87 · 20/11/2017 16:16

The smell of BO can harm someone. Breathing in impulse could harm someone so yes yabu.

Spray something on a hanky or scarf and take it with you when you’re out in public.

kaytee87 · 20/11/2017 16:16

Cant*

Chrys2017 · 20/11/2017 16:16

Never spray perfume in public places—especially confined ones.
If the smell of public transport bothers you so much, purchase and carry something you can sniff from a jar.

logicalmum · 20/11/2017 16:17

But rather than risk anyone collapsing round me choking on the floor, in future i'll spray my scarf with something (probably not cheap old impulse) nice and breath deeply if somone stinky sits near me. I'll also try to remember to spray my scarf well in advance too. Phew glad that's sorted then. Grin

“light spray really isn't that strong”

Well then it did fuck all to mask the BO didn’t it? People just had to smell your cheap shite on top of the BO.

Wrap a scarf around your neck, then lift so part of it covers your nose. Then impulse away and suffocate yourself with your “light” scent.

Creambun2 · 20/11/2017 16:18

Impulse? Really?

ShiftyMcGifty · 20/11/2017 16:18

Ha, cross posted.

It’s a plan!

Notsooriginalwerther · 20/11/2017 16:18

I’ve got a couple things, first a question for those of you who’ve commented with asthma, because I don’t have anyone immediate that suffers with it to ask, do spritz things also affect you? You know the like almost water scents that just spritz out I didn’t renown if that would be an option for OP to stop sprays aerosols - because even as someone who doesn’t have asthma I’ve been on a bus and a boy sprays lynx and I shit you not I could taste that fucking scent the entire day at he back of my throat! So that’s my first question and then also OP I understand what you’re talking about I’ve been on a bus to work when a man and woman got on and the entire bus smelt like poo and wee and sweat, so strong it made my eyes water, now this make me sort of angry because I don’t choose to smell that, I shouldn’t be objectified to that smell because I have to use public transport which I empathise with you for but you can’t be outraged at what’s being inflicted on you innocently riding the bus and then go ahead and do exactly that to other innocent people that may suffer with asthma, or chronic migraines, or be pregnant, or have multiple chemical sensitivity. Essentially you’re being just as thoughtless to those around you as the people that smell horrible :/ it’s a tough one because you shouldn’t have to smell their BO but others shouldn’t have to smell your body spray. In future go with one of he extremely helpful options you’ve been given on this thread :)

God you are a gf op. Some people might not wash because they are ill in any number of ways. Also lots of people get a free bus pass due to age or disability. It’s not hard to make the leap is it.

Does it make you feel superior going on about someone not washing?

Notsooriginalwerther · 20/11/2017 16:20
  • subjected not objectified hah!
logicalmum · 20/11/2017 16:21

zombie i'm aware of homeless people and the difficulties they'd have. I have massive sympathy for them. The people on the buses i'm talking about are not homeless, nor have they shit themselves.

OP posts:
kaytee87 · 20/11/2017 16:21

How on earth do you know they’re not homeless op? Do homeless people wear signs now?

BoneyBackJefferson · 20/11/2017 16:23

logicalmum

Perhaps if people just washed?

ShitneySpears

Some people have absolutely fucking revolting personal hygiene.

There are medical conditions that cause extreme BO.

logicalmum

Ughh no, that would make ME feel sick.

The irony of this surely can't be missed?

logicalmum · 20/11/2017 16:23

kaytee no why should it? does it make you feel superior acting like it wouldn't bother you?

OP posts:
kaytee87 · 20/11/2017 16:25

Bo smell would bother me but I wouldn’t spray something equally offensive (to some) around nor would I start a thread about it. I’d likely feel sorry for the person (it’s not like anyone wants to stink) then I’d move on with my life.

ZombieVampireHedgehog · 20/11/2017 16:26

OP the bad breath could be a rotten tooth, possibly gum disease, not everyone has access to a dentist. I think emergency dentists on the NHS are over stretched due to the lack of NHS places.

People do have continence issues so you could find yourself sat next to someone who has urgency issues and does that. (Defecate themselves)

But you're going to purchase a scarf so all is well. Driving lessons too might be an idea. Then you can have all the Magic Tree's in the world.

BTW homeless people sometimes ride the buses to get out of the cold. Just to prepare you for winter. I think they get free passes.

logicalmum · 20/11/2017 16:27

Boney
But not ironic to say don't spray perfume but fine to use vick? why should one be unacceptable but the other is fine?

As an asthma sufferer, yes, Impulse would trigger my asthma badly. Eau de parfum doesn't seem to affect me as much as Eau de toilette for some reason. I can't use air fresheners or plug-ins. I can use essential oils in an oil burner though. Honestly, a scarf over your nose is your best bet.
