To spray a bit of perfume on the bus.

I don't want to sound horrible about people with strong body odour, , but some do positively honk when i'm on the bus. Today a man sat in front of me and the smell nearly took my breath away. Wibu to spray a bit of impulse round my neck. Anyone else do this.

WrittenandGrown · 20/11/2017 15:22

Please don't I am ten weeks into HG and that would make me vomit into my sick bag in public (again). Like a PP said a bit of Vicks on a hankie works lovely.

Nyx1 · 20/11/2017 15:23

i have asthma

pondering this horrible dilemma, I think I'd rather someone sprayed and then I could cover my face and might have to use my inhaler but then wouldn't smell BO.

there's a difference with really bad BO that chokes you versus ordinary sweat smells.

urgh, I've made myself feel ill now!!

ZombieVampireHedgehog · 20/11/2017 15:25

Ah yes the inconvenient risk of death / allergy symptoms verses the inconvenient smell of BO.

So very empathetic.

RebeccaBunch · 20/11/2017 15:25

Impulse ISN'T perfume!

ZombieVampireHedgehog · 20/11/2017 15:26

If it offends you so much could you possibly move? Is that an option. I'd take that plus maybe olbas or lavender in a tissue.

SendintheArdwolves · 20/11/2017 15:27

OP: AIBU?
Everyone: Yes.
OP: I don't see why
Everyone: [reasons]
OP: Well, I still don't think I am.

OP, I'm sorry that a stinky person was on your bus. That is truly unpleasant (not being sarky, I was once in a tube carriage with someone who smelt so bad, everyone else was pulling their collars over their nose and heaving).

BUT:

The propellants and other chemicals in sprays can trigger asthma and breathing difficulties. So you spraying Impulse in a crowded bus doesn't make the problem better, it makes it worse. Someone with asthma might find themselves having to deal with the stink of the stinky person AND having an asthma attack.

DarkPeakScouter · 20/11/2017 15:28

Yes Op, why don’t you walk or drive instead since it’s so easy. That way horrid BO won’t afflict your dainty nostrils?

ShitneySpears · 20/11/2017 15:29

Ugh, this is why I hate public transport. I don't drive so I have to fucking use it as well.

I'd have sprayed.

Some people have absolutely fucking revolting personal hygiene.

Jamhandprints · 20/11/2017 15:30

There are some awful smells on the bus BO, incontinence pads...but I would have to get off if someone sprayed a body spray. It fills the air and makes me feel choked.

ZombieVampireHedgehog · 20/11/2017 15:30

It's a first but my GF alarm has gone of for the first time.

OP must know aerosols can trigger asthma which if severe can trigger the unthinkable. If not on the other hand an ICU visit and days in hospital.

You'd feel pretty bad if you made someone die to remedy another persons inconvenient body odour.

user1492958275 · 20/11/2017 15:31

Impulse is rank, and so is spraying any type of deodorant or body spray on a bus. No one wants to choke in that smell either. It's just your preference so yes you are unreasonable

PickAChew · 20/11/2017 15:32

Yes you fucking are. I hate it when people spray body spray or perfume in confined spaces like buses as my eyes start streaming and it makes me cough uncontrollably.

PiffleandWiffle · 20/11/2017 15:32

Ah yes the inconvenient risk of death / allergy symptoms verses the inconvenient smell of BO.

How hysterical!! I'm fairly sure that the fumes associated with a bus in the first place would be setting people off if they were that sensitive.

Go for it OP, as a suffer said above, they'd rather smell the Impulse than rotting armpits & have their inhaler with them anyway.....

PiffleandWiffle · 20/11/2017 15:33

OP: AIBU?
Everyone: Yes.

Actually, not everyone - RTFT & stop posting your trite little meme....

showmewhatyougot · 20/11/2017 15:35

YABU

JacquesHammer · 20/11/2017 15:36

If people can get "triggered" by a bit of impulse, why take the risk of public transport

Because they can reasonably expect people to show a little common sense and not spray aerosols. That said, if BO bothers you so much, why take the risk of public transport...

Carry a little bottle of essential oil/olbas oil and dab into a handkerchief. Much better if you need to avoid the smell. (And smell much better than impulse!)

happypoobum · 20/11/2017 15:37

Its the propellants that cause the health hazards most of the time.

This is why PP are advising you to have something strong smelling on a hanky so you can hold that to your nose rather than risk hospitalising a totally innocent bystander.

ZombieVampireHedgehog · 20/11/2017 15:37

Not hysterical - people actually die from asthma.

Chirpychirpycheepcheep · 20/11/2017 15:37

I can never understand these ppl with horrendous BO walking around completely unaware of the stench.

I was in a bakery the other day next to a very large guy and all i could smell was pungent BO mixed with freshly baked cheese scones. I wondered if his nose just filters it out and he thinks 'hmmmmm cheese scones! '

Spray away OP... Spray away!!! 😀

FlowerPot1234 · 20/11/2017 15:38

I have done this - but not sprayed it round my neck where it might affect others, directly onto my skin or a tissue if I have one, and I hold my wrist or my tissue up to my nose.

The extreme BO smell of some people on the tube is literally enough to make me feel as if I am going to be sick, so I understand what you mean OP.

FlowerPot1234 · 20/11/2017 15:38

I spray perfume, by the way, with no propellants.

KellyBarclay · 20/11/2017 15:41

Just put a peg on your nose and breathe through your mouth.

Jaxhog · 20/11/2017 15:43

Please don't. I'm allergic to lavender, and would MUCH rather smell BO. Adding yet another strong smell won't help. It will just make it worse.

ThePhoenixBird · 20/11/2017 15:43

Nope, I hate when people spray stuff on public transport, it’s anti social. I have asthma, only mild, but some twat spraying stuff on an enclosed bus is enough to set me off.

Rather have to smell BO for a small amount of time than be stuck on a bus struggling to breathe properly

Jaxhog · 20/11/2017 15:44

Or put some Vicks chest rub around your nose. It'll blot out most of the smell.
