To spray a bit of perfume on the bus.

I don't want to sound horrible about people with strong body odour, , but some do positively honk when i'm on the bus. Today a man sat in front of me and the smell nearly took my breath away. Wibu to spray a bit of impulse round my neck. Anyone else do this.

zombie why on earth would i write to the bus company? is that the kind of thing you do, pestering people with your grievances?

The joys of public transport

Mumof41987 · 20/11/2017 17:10

Rather smell bo or shit than impulse

logicalmum · 20/11/2017 17:15

Oh dear is it rosewhite? now you've made me feel awful, i can't afford anything much better. Sad i keep clean though, skint as i am.

Can anyone recommend a nicer body spray than impulse please, round about the same price if pos.

logicalmum · 20/11/2017 17:19

boney the "other" doesn't affect everyone though, just mumsnetters i think, whereas stinking bodies does affect everyone.

Just skimmed this and it looks like it's descended into a bit of a barney but seeing the title reminded me of one of a great thread from yester year : AIBU to carry a pomander when travelling by public transport Grin

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 20/11/2017 17:23

Put a bit on a hankie if you need it. I sympathise, I was on a bus last week and one passenger was absolutely honking, but spraying perfume etc could make someone really ill.

logicalmum · 20/11/2017 17:29

Yes i realise that kalinka i only used a small amount for my benefit though. But i could have been ill too you know. But really, if someone could get "really ill" if someone squirted a small amount of perfume, if it was me i'd be petrified of public transport, i really can't imagine anyone taking that risk. There would be huge dangers of going in any shop too.

Moving away from spray... what about keeping a little pot of Vicks Vaporub in your bag and dabbing a bit under your nose when needed?

TrojanWhore · 20/11/2017 17:39

If you just want to mask it for yourself, then put a hit of Vicks or tiger balm round your nostrils.

If would be hideously selfish and insensitive to use any form of spray on public transport

logicalmum · 20/11/2017 17:45

I'm leaving this thread now, i was prepared to accept i was being unreasonable but there have been a few posters that agreed with me, the others are either being insulting about my cheap body spray or else implying that a little squirt would have people rolling about on the floor choking. Im amazed i've never witnessed this either on buses, trains, planes or shops.

How do people manage to walk through duty free shops at the airport i wonder, (everyone's happily squirting away the perfumes there.) Never witnesed anyone being violently ill there. Only on mumsnet would these kind of scenarios happen. I should have known better, bit snobby to keep mentioning the impulse though. Hmm

Hmm
NooNooHead · 20/11/2017 17:56

Yes, Impulse was something I used when I was 13, along with Charlie Red, Blue, White et al - ah, those were the days! Grin

LillianGish · 20/11/2017 18:08

This is a problem on public transport especially where I live, I always make sure I’m wearing a scarf sprayed with my perfume so I can cover my nose if the need arises.

It's not enclosed like a bus but last time I had an asthma attack on the plane and needed to go to hospital at the other end of my thankfully short journey.
Nice of you to be so dismissive of the people you could be harming Hmm

SemolinaSilkpaws · 20/11/2017 18:17

I am another who uses a dab of scented hand cream under my nose in times of need.

My bugbear is people who reek of garlic. Makes me feel sick.

PiffleandWiffle · 20/11/2017 18:20

On Mumsnet people are keeling over at the faintest whiff of a spray or aerosol. Hmm

Meanwhile in the real world...... Football

tectonicplates · 20/11/2017 18:24

If people can get "triggered" by a bit of impulse, why take the risk of public transport

Could you please advise us of where we can park for free in Central London during office hours?

HotDamnState · 20/11/2017 18:26

I second essential oils or a strong perfume on a hanky in your pocket for emergency situations (I also learned this trick when suffering with morning sickness). Nobody wants to smell nasty body sprays in an enclosed space.

I feel your pain, though, OP. On the bus yesterday I was sandwiched between a man wearing a bucket of Brut, a woman that smelled strongly of urine (poor elderly bedraggled looking woman, probably wasn't er fault at all, but she absolutely reeked) and a woman wearing an absolutely filthy weave in her hair that smelled like death. I was standing up and couldn't access scented hanky so was heaving in to my scarf. Grim Sad.

tectonicplates · 20/11/2017 18:29

Also you do realise the Congestion Charge is £11.50 per day, right? en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/London_congestion_charge

If you want us to stop taking public transport, you will need to pay all Londoners £11.50 per day for our congestion charge fees, as well as parking costs which can be at least £5 per hour in some places. That's why we have public transport.

shutitandtidyupgitface · 20/11/2017 18:31

Meanwhile in the real world

In the real world some of us have been HOSPITALISED by other people spraying shit.
Do you think that is funny? Do you think someone gasping for breath and trying not to faint is amusing?

PickAChew · 20/11/2017 18:31

If I have to walk past perfume counters, I do so very quickly.

FYI, those of us who react to perfumes and aerosols can smell the stinky passengers, too, in my case, every time I draw breath in between coughs from your bloody spray. I don't care if it's from poundland or in a base distilled from unicorn tears, keep it to yourself.

buckeejit · 20/11/2017 18:33

Yabu, BO is awful but NEVER made better with impulse. Don’t do it!

AccidentallyRunToWindsor · 20/11/2017 18:42

I’m just astounded you can still buy impulse!
