To think nobody likes sprouts. And anyone who says they do is just doing it for attention

I mean they're horrible. People have tried to help them by adding other things to make them not taste like sprouts, but let's just admit that they were never designed to be eaten. The taste is probably some evolutionary defence mechanism that has inexplicably not worked coz humans are daft enough to eat through the disgusting taste.

Anyone that says they like them is lying to us and themselves and is just looking for attention.

MiracleCure - exactly. This is to your first point obviously about making them taste like something else.

Do you know what doesn't taste like sprouts.....everything that isn't a sprout. If it tastes better with chestnuts and bacon, then just imagine what chestnuts and bacon alone would taste like.

It's a sad indictment of today's society that it hasn't be cleansed from Christmas society yet. Baby Jesus wouldn't want this.

I love sprouts. When I was little my dad told me they were Fairy cabbages which entranced me. Neither of my dc like them but they are still my favourite vegetable.

BertrandRussell · 20/11/2017 09:20

"Baby Jesus wouldn't want this."

I bet Baby Jesus ate up His sprouts like a good boy...

juneau · 20/11/2017 09:23

I love sprouts! We all do actually. I buy them all winter and they're one of the few veggies that DS1 will eat. They're especially good friend with bacon, but we just eat them boiled (though not too long!). I think that's the issue with a lot of veggies actually - people overcook them and then they're disgusting. My MIL boils all vegetables to death.

Kintan · 20/11/2017 09:33

Roasted they are delicious, boiled they are foul. Same with broccoli!

shhhfastasleep · 20/11/2017 09:53

Give me attention and sprouts with bacon.
As you were.

OohMrDarcy · 20/11/2017 10:02

DS ADORES sprouts - he clearly has weird tastebuds as they are his favourite vegetable by far. Last Christmas (aged 6) he ate 15 with his Christmas dinner... yes - you read that correctly. He doesn't have any bacon or nuts with them... just plain, boiled sprouts.

This time of year I have them permanently available and he has about 6 most weekends with his roast dinner.

I agree he is odd though Grin

BulletFox · 20/11/2017 10:18

Actually why would anyone want sprouts for attention? Odd.

I just have them to eat.

Ilovelampandchair · 20/11/2017 10:20

Overboiled sprouts are a tragedy.

Properly cooked, slightly crunchy, buttery sprouts are incredible.

YABVU, they are the winter veg of the Gods

rcit · 20/11/2017 11:01

You are wrong op!
I love sprouts, so does my h so do my dc!
So do my brother, SIL and nieces.
I served some up only last week to all of the above people. They were in a serving bowl in the middle of the table so nobody had to take them if they didn't want to. All went quickly!
I prefer them without bacon. I will eat bacon but it doesn't excite me!

Only1scoop · 20/11/2017 11:02

I love em’

A sprout ain’t just for Christmas

Damnthatonestaken · 20/11/2017 11:11

I made them lightly sauted with pancetta, croutons and provolone. That was yum, as was stir fried with chillies and garlic but i agree those are attempts to disguise the tasteGrin

Rebeccaslicker · 20/11/2017 11:25

Hang on. Not all sprouts are created equal.

The chocolate ones covered in sprout coloured foil are fine.

The actual bitter little balls of hatred are not!

NellysKnickers · 20/11/2017 11:41

Sprout lover here........I love their green deliciousness

mrsreynolds · 20/11/2017 11:47

Love em
When Cold - even better

fourquenelles · 20/11/2017 11:51

But ...but ...but ...sprouts are fairy's cabbages. Every time you say you hate sprouts a fairy loses their wings.

My late DH had one sprout a year. On Christmas Day with his dinner. He didn't like them much Grin

hellsbellsmelons · 20/11/2017 12:05

Everyone in my family loves them except my mum.
I really do, honestly, love them!!!
Not too al-dente though!
I like 'em cooked properly!

paxillin · 20/11/2017 12:10

The only thing I hate about sprouts is preparing the little fuckers. The pile of outer leaves is as big as the pile of cleaned sprouts. The one pre-cleaned in the shops are expensive and I fool myself every year that cleaning them will be fine. No, it bloody isn't, just shell out for the pre-cleaned ones! I won't, of course, too tight.

KC225 · 20/11/2017 12:30

Yesterday my DH procures a semi sprout stalk to give the leaves to our new Guinea Pigs as a treat. They ate them and I have to be honest I think less of those fluffsters for doing so. They have let me down.

SilverSpot · 20/11/2017 12:33

They are nice steamed and with lardons and chestnuts.

They are also yummy roasted.

Opheliasgoldenwine · 20/11/2017 12:35

I love sprouts in all honesty, I even loved them as a kid.

maddiemookins16mum · 20/11/2017 12:39

I like sprouts, steamed, knob of butter and a good grind of pepper. We eat them a lot during the winter months. But I am quite fond of strong green veg, like a dark green savoy cabbage, Kale and the like. Sometimes I get almost cravings for it, almost like my body is saying you need some iron etc.
DH loves them too, DD not so much.

RosyWelshcakes · 20/11/2017 12:42

I love sprouts.
