To think nobody likes sprouts. And anyone who says they do is just doing it for attention

I mean they're horrible. People have tried to help them by adding other things to make them not taste like sprouts, but let's just admit that they were never designed to be eaten. The taste is probably some evolutionary defence mechanism that has inexplicably not worked coz humans are daft enough to eat through the disgusting taste.

Anyone that says they like them is lying to us and themselves and is just looking for attention.

I love them. DS did too until my mother, a famous sprout avoider, brainwashed him into believing they are inferior cabbages, so he stopped eating them unless they come with bacon. It's the only way he will eat cabbages too.

RNBrie · 19/11/2017 22:06

My dh makes a sprout risotto. Its really delicious. I love sprouts.

SauvignonBlanche · 19/11/2017 22:07

I love sprouts - they're not just for Christmas.

They only taste vile if nit cooked properly, they should only be lightly steamed. DH thought he didn't like them until he had some that weren't over cooked.

They do make me fart though. Wink

MajesticWhine · 19/11/2017 22:07

I like them. DH does too. We both fart like troopers.

user1471451866 · 19/11/2017 22:07

I love sprouts, especially with swede. I don't think they like me tho, terrible stomach ache if I eat them.

theymademejoin · 19/11/2017 22:07

Maybe they're like cucumber and only some people can actually taste them. They obviously realise they are disgusting.

juddyrockingcloggs · 19/11/2017 22:08

Love sprouts but feel the same as you do about red cabbage and radish. Grotesque Smile

Apocalyptichorsewoman · 19/11/2017 22:08

I like sprouts.

When I was a child though, I didn't like sprouts at all.

This was because whenever my mum boiled sprouts for Christmas, she put them on to boil in November.

Now I like sprouts. As do my children...

60sname · 19/11/2017 22:09

I like them the way DM does them, in butter and breadcrumbs. The frozen ones are more like the droppings of Satan though.

user1471517900 · 19/11/2017 22:09

bingolittle - that brought a small tear to my eye. We could change the world for the better.

It's bacon I feel sorry for here. Forced to try and mask the taste at its own delicious cost.

I think the population is about 50/50 on the subject of sprouts.

I genuinely really like them, along with cabbage and all the brassicas and 99% of all veg generally.

I loathe tomatoes though.

AdalindSchade · 19/11/2017 22:09

Sprout risotto doesn't sound like a thing that should exist though

Ecclesiastes · 19/11/2017 22:09

Eeh, I love sprouts. I also love farting.

DailyMailDontStealMyThread · 19/11/2017 22:10

No attention needed over here but I do like sprouts.

MummyInTheNecropolis · 19/11/2017 22:10

YANBU at all. So many bloody attention seekers on this thread 🙄.

I honestly totally completely love sprouts!!!! (Really really - genuine! It's true!!) In fact, I love them so much, (and I know this is weird!) I went through a faze at uni of eating them for breakfast in a bowl with butter!!!!

I think some people just have different taste buds! (I don't know if it has anything to do with it or not - but I also have a super sensitive nose! I'm really aware of smells! .... (no jokes about my ability to smell and the after effects of sprouts please!!!)

WhiskyChick · 19/11/2017 22:11

I love them as does DP, simple cross on the bottom and steamed to perfection.

CherryChasingDotMuncher · 19/11/2017 22:11

Chopped and fried up with bacon lardons and chestnuts they taste amazing!

Boiled as whole sprouts they’re little pockets of fart though

Longdistance · 19/11/2017 22:12

I fucking love sprouts! You’re talking out your farty arse op. My mum makes sprout stew, it is amazing.
My dd is 6, and loves sprouts.

Crispbutty · 19/11/2017 22:13

I love sprouts. And cabbage and cauliflower.

BlackeyedSusan · 19/11/2017 22:13

my children are the exception that proves the rule.

the aftermath of eating about 15 sprouts though is not pretty. Envy

steppemum · 19/11/2017 22:14

you do know that the taste of sprouts is genetic?

They have found that some people have a different gene that tastes bitterness in sprouts (and presumably cabbage too) and others don't.

So if they taste foul to you, it is because your body does literlaly taste them differently.

I like sprouts. The people I know who don't like sprouts, REALLY don't like them, unlike most veg where people are just meh

80sMum · 19/11/2017 22:14

Well, I love sprouts (but do not like attention)!

minisoksmakehardwork · 19/11/2017 22:14

Yabvu. I love sprouts. I find they taste better once we’ve started having frosts - my parents always used to say don’t eat them until after the first frosts have sat on them. Seems they had a point.

Definitely don’t like them cooked from frozen though, fresh all the way in this house.

For a tasty treat, sautée in butter with chestnuts. Yum.

Or shred and add to stirfrys.

I’m sure there are other things to do with them but I prefer them relatively untainted.
