To think nobody likes sprouts. And anyone who says they do is just doing it for attention

I mean they're horrible. People have tried to help them by adding other things to make them not taste like sprouts, but let's just admit that they were never designed to be eaten. The taste is probably some evolutionary defence mechanism that has inexplicably not worked coz humans are daft enough to eat through the disgusting taste.

Anyone that says they like them is lying to us and themselves and is just looking for attention.

I have happily tucked into everything from African land snails, chicken feet, pig intestine and witchety grubs to pigs trotters, lamb blood and crickets.
Sprouts are revolting. Happy to eat any other brassica. The evangelists try to tell you that they " didn't like sprouts until I made sprout, puree, sprout souffle, sprout stir fry" etc.
Doesn't matter what you do to them, they taste of brimstone.
Oddly, raw is perfectly fine. Any hint of heat releases their inner revoltingnes.

Enjoy your fart cakes.

NC4now · 19/11/2017 23:00

I fucking love sprouts.

readyforno2 · 19/11/2017 23:02

I love them, so good fried with bacon and a splash of double cream.
I love the fact nobody else likes them.

123rd · 19/11/2017 23:02

All of us love sprouts actually. The kids love them too

Fekko · 19/11/2017 23:03

I love sprouts. And cabbage!

mermaidsandunicorns · 19/11/2017 23:03

Love sprouts

TheNoodlesIncident · 19/11/2017 23:04

I like sprouts. And don't want any attention AT ALL thanks.

They're not bitter, are they? I thought they tasted slightly metallic, like iron or something. My MIL overboils them (and also cuts crosses in the bottom of stalks, WTF is all that about) and they go mushy which isn't a nice texture.

I remember being sent to collect sprouts from the vegetable garden at horticulture college. The cook said "there's been a frost so they'll be just right" so I'm guessing there is historical fact behind this.

Posters could be right about the tastebuds though, I can't detect salt in stuff so we tend to cut right back on the amount recipes ask for, like in pizza dough for example. I genuinely can't tell the difference, except I don't have a raging thirst all night if we've only put in a pinch of salt...

donajimena · 19/11/2017 23:04

I love them. Raw or overcooked. Not al dente. I believe this is the only place I have announced it though so definitely not an attention thing.

headintheproverbial · 19/11/2017 23:06

I love them. In fact it'll soon be time to start having a giant bowl of them with tons of butter, crispy lardons and chestnuts for dinner in the evenings. Yum.

This is a sprout-free household. Vile things. We have also banned cauliflower, although broccoli and cabbage are welcome here.

PickAChew · 19/11/2017 23:09

YABU. Sprouts are lovely.

SteamTrainsRealAleandOpenFires · 19/11/2017 23:28

she put them on to boil in November. [shocked]

No wonder you didn't like them, as everyone knows that Sprouts are put on in April. Grin

Our DS loves Sprouts, Broccoli, Cauli, Leek & Mushrooms, raw & cooked. (but there again so do I Grin )

steff13 · 19/11/2017 23:32

I love them sauteed in bacon grease until they're bright green, then served with crumbled bacon, pecans, and blue cheese.

I also have a great salad recipe where you she'd them raw, with apples, bacon, and a slightly sweet vinegar-y dressing. Yum.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 19/11/2017 23:36

I don't like them on their own. Only like them covered in gravy and mint source.
Why would anyone get attention for liking sprouts.Confused

Temporary2002 · 19/11/2017 23:39

It is genetic, somebody has posted the link up thread.
I don't like them, but not repulsed like some are. Dh likes them at Christmas.

Battleax · 19/11/2017 23:44

Why would I want to attract attention to my delicious sprouts? Confused That would be really poor hoarding.

Whinesalot · 19/11/2017 23:46

Good God op. You are twisted to have such awful thoughts about the innocent little sprout. What have they ever done to you to deserve such vitriol?

Saracen · 19/11/2017 23:49

YABU. I detest them, but some people do have an odd attraction to them. Reminds me of Marmite in that way.

I once had a cat who would do anything for a sprout. He used to sprawl across the top of the big fridge which was near the hob, purring like a maniac while stretching a paw out hoping somehow to hook one up out of the boiling water.

rainbowduck · 19/11/2017 23:53

I love sprouts. Boiled, roasted, pan fried with pancetta... and even cold.

I do, however, think that spinach is the work of the devil.

aintnothinbutagstring · 19/11/2017 23:53

I love sprouts but am the only one in our household that does, I love all green veg, the bitterness is appealing to me. Probably a good thing for my health as I don't eat a lot of fruit, have to work myself up to the sourness!

Deemail · 19/11/2017 23:53

I love them, I'd eat a plate of them on their own, steamed with a bit of salt

redexpat · 19/11/2017 23:54

Yanbu. Even the rabbit wont touch them.

MrMeeseekscando · 19/11/2017 23:58

Sprouts can fuck off.

Topseyt · 20/11/2017 00:02

I love sprouts. I only get them at Christmas though, as my DH and the DDs are oddbods who don't like them for some strange reason. ConfusedGrin

We usually go out for Christmas Dinner. Somehow I always manage to get the sprouts from their plates. Suits me.

Sprout bubble and squeak is food of the gods.
