Just this really. Santa is a vulgar Americanism.

What was wrong with father Christmas ffs.

In some Nineteenth Century illustrations, he is seen sporting a birch rod as well as presents

Captain Christmas would never use a birch rod only a feather duster for tickling Xmas Grin

I dislike Santa; it sounds ridiculously pretentious when uttered in anything even closely appropriating a scouse accent.

He shall be named Father Christmas in my house, or otherwise corrected.

People commenting that Santa is often called Santy, especially in Ireland, reminds me that Santy is also used in the US South, particularly by older people. I could be wrong, but I don't think that's common elsewhere in the US

He is Santy in Aberdeenshire too. (Pondering if he is Santy in Aberdeen, Washington and if there are any undiscovered Nirvana Christmas songs)

Yep, lorelai they often delete posts quoting what was offensive!

I love that she keeps PMing you and you keep posting them! I’m cringing for her. What a sad little person.

lorelairoryemily · 20/11/2017 20:18

I'm 31 and in our house it's never been Father Christmas, always Santa and sometimes Santey but I am in the NE 😀

Same - I grew up in the NE

This is as bad as the whole Mom/Mam/Mum thing, with people getting riled up about what other people call their mom, when in actual fact it has no effect on their life. I do enjoy those threads though, with one side all "Mom is such an Americanism" then a bunch of people from the West Midlands getting all offended.

I say Santa and I am "Mom" to my kids (oh, kids are baby goats not children, forgot that one too)

Also, are all Americanisms "vulgar" just by being American?

Always been Santa in Scotland
