Admittedly, I am an (ex Catholic) atheist but are there any Christians on here who also found it funny?

Liquidrevolution that took me longer than it should have Grin

And I think the advert is brilliant. It's only Greggs, people need to lighten up!

Whatsername17 · 15/11/2017 20:33

I don't think the advert takes the kids out of Christianity at all. It's funny.

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 15/11/2017 20:33

I think it's a bit off really Hmm

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 15/11/2017 20:34

And reallly really funny !?

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 15/11/2017 20:38

It reminds me of someone who made a nativity completely out of pork , then it went on Facebook with a comment saying 'let's see if this pisses the Muslims off ' or something along those lines . it was someone i defriended quick sharp

TheLuminaries · 15/11/2017 20:38

This always makes me giggle too

thatwhichwecallarose · 15/11/2017 20:43

I don’t get it.

Is there a whole advert to go with it or just a photo of a nativity scene with a sausage roll instead of Jesus?! If it is just the latter then either my sense of humour has taken the night off or some of you on here need to check the definition of “hilarious”!

PeiPeiPing · 15/11/2017 20:43

I guess it makes a change for a Christmas ad to have a Nativity scene in it. None of the others seem to. Most stores avoid them, in case they offend the PC brigade.

So Jesus-sausage or not, at least it's chuffing Christmassy!

Hope it's not pulled. I haven't spoken to a single Christian yet who is upset by it. Not one.

@mycatsapirate

If you say Jesus backwards? LOL! Grin

Whatsername17 · 15/11/2017 20:55

TheLuminaires- that too is hilarious!

Troutfin · 15/11/2017 21:39

I’m heartened by how many Christians are serenely unruffled: it makes a refreshing change from hearing the Offended Brigade banging on.

Stopfuckingshouting - it’s the complete silliness of the thing that got me, particularly the deadpan report on R4 news this evening. Just thinking about it now has made me giggle again.

Turnocks34 · 15/11/2017 21:51

I am Catholic, not strictly - two babies outside of wedlock, and church for special occasions.

I found it hilarious. I burst out laughing when I heard about it.

speakout · 15/11/2017 21:56

Love the comment from the Telegraph

Jesus backwards is sausage

PodgeBod · 15/11/2017 22:09

I would consider myself Christian. I’m not offended but I don’t find it at all funny either. The Henry one is very sweet, though.

GrouchyKiwi · 15/11/2017 22:14

To be fair, it's more the reporting on it that's funny. The image makes me smile, but the coverage is grand.

DesignedForLife · 15/11/2017 22:18

I'm Christian. I don't find it offensive nor particularly funny. I think it's a cheap shot - a very deliberately controversial marketing ploy. Everyone is now talking about Greggs. Job done.

Tringley · 15/11/2017 22:18

Initially I didn't find it funny but I did chuckle when I read Jesus backwards.

DesignedForLife · 15/11/2017 22:18

Agree with Grouchy- the coverage is funny.

PortiaCastis · 15/11/2017 22:19

Clever PR exercise, it's got everyone talking

CowesTwo · 15/11/2017 23:25

Gold, frankincense and bleurgh.

Ceto · 15/11/2017 23:42

"But why do we have to respect religions at all? If someone chooses to believe in something, that's their choice"

What's the issue with that? If we could all behave like twats whenever we wanted, what would Society be like?

Birds, It is not twat behaviour to decide that it's OK to produce an advert which says something mildly amusing about a well-known story, and that there is no reason to avoid doing so simply because some people choose to believe that that story is about the son of an entity for whose existence there is no evidence whatsoever. If anything, it demonstrates respect because it shows that you don't believe that Christians are dumb enough to be offended.

And you are definitely going to have to explain what on earth is the relevance of "Remembrance stuff".

ILoveDolly · 15/11/2017 23:47

I did wonder if the pork element might be construed as rude. Personally I thought it very amusing although I am one of those Christians who are supposedly annoyed about it.

StrangeLookingParasite · 16/11/2017 08:58

Having seen the extruded grey goo that goes into their 'sausage' rolls, if it puts off even one person from buying one, it's a job well done quite honestly.

Mmm, delicious grey goo....

3 wise donuts.......

Blasphemy is the very definition of a victimless crime.

It’s vitally important to be able to poke fun at religion and ideologies. We are utterly fucked if we can’t. If you want to know what happens when we can’t take the piss out of religion, think back to Charlie hebdo, or to atheist bloggers. Wing murdeted in Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Taking the piss out of a religion is NOT THE SAME as taking the piss out of a religious person. One is a person with feelings, the other is an idea.

If there really is an all powerful all knowing being out there, I’m quite, quite sure it’s not going to have a sulk about a Greggs advert.

DeleteOrDecay · 16/11/2017 09:37

I cracked a smile when I saw it, I thought it was quite witty and different. It didn’t even occur to me that someone somewhere might find it offensive. I mean for goodness sake, it might not be everyone’s type of humour but it’s not offensive or disrespectful.

Surely it’s obvious why they wouldn’t do similar with Islam? The power dynamic in society is very different, another poster upthread explained it better than I could but it seems like most people are ‘offended’ by this because of the assumption that they wouldn’t make light fun of other religions, without actually putting much thought into why that might be.

Northernparent68 · 16/11/2017 09:57

I do nt think it’s offensive but it is childish and hypocritical, are they making jokes about Islam ?
