AIBU to think most people don't get dried in the shower cubicle?

Bone of contention between DH and I. He gets himself dried inside the shower cubicle while DC and I step onto the bath mat and get dried there.

Problem is we've had a leak through the kitchen ceiling and DH has pulled up the Lino and found rotten hardboard. Sad

Leaking shower tray? Dripping bodies??

I squeegee down the walls and shower cubicle door, then open Siri, grab towel and dry in shower. It really is the only considerate thing to do if you have a shared bathroom. I can't understand the "bumping into the walls" comments - surely if you have enough room to swing your arms about enough to wash yourself, you have enough room to dry yourself too?

BaldricksTrousers · 11/11/2017 13:10

I have a bit of a mild phobia of standing in the shower when the water's not on. I have to step out. I think I find even clean baths and showers filthy, horrible places. I don't know why I'm like this! It's even worse at the pool...I don't shower there.

rubybleu · 11/11/2017 13:13

We have a shower over bath and do a dry off in there. It would never occur to me to get out and drip all over the bathmat, that’s what the plug hole is for!

StatueInTheSky · 11/11/2017 13:14

in the interests of research I stood on the bathmat and dried myself this morning...I feel all weird and peculiar.

I am going right back to wafting about with a towel wrapped round me.

BertieBotts · 11/11/2017 13:19

Well when I wash myself it doesn't matter if I touch the shower curtain or wall as I'm already wet. Plus I'm putting the soap quite directly onto body parts which is quite a small movement. When I'm drying myself I usually use both arms and pull it back and forth or stretch it to get some tension before wrapping it around myself. If I'm drying specific body parts like leg, arm etc then depending on how low the body part is some of the towel is dangling on the floor - wouldn't want to do that in the shower. If I had to hold it up to prevent it from falling down (like in a swimming pool changing room) then it's quite precariously bunched into a ball and takes up more space horizontally speaking, which means potential wall contamination. And then hair - I normally bend over so my hair hangs down (preferably over bath) and - again two handed - wrap it up so that wouldn't fit if I was still in the shower either. And I tend to feel quite lightheaded and precarious after a shower anyway so it feels safer to be on a dry ground than trying to dry one leg, bend over to do hair etc on a slippery surface.

TBH the only time the floor ends up very wet is when all three of us have had a shower in a row, otherwise it doesn't seem to be that bad. Perhaps some people are simply more drippy than others?

RunYouJuiceBitch · 11/11/2017 14:01

I've never even thought about drying myself in the cubicle. This thread has enlightened me as I didn't even realise it was a thing.

I step onto the bath mat, wrap the towel around me and by that point my feet are usually dry enough to walk into the bedroom. Barely a drop of water actually touches the bathroom floor, and maybe it's just my house but I don't feel particularly cold.

Is this excessive dripping coming from wet hair? I don't wash my hair every time I shower, but when I have I step out onto the mat, hang my head over the shower tray to wring it out one final time, wrap it up in a towel and continue as previously described. Again, I get little to no water on the floor.

I swear this site makes me more paranoid; always giving me new issues to worry about of which I was previously unaware.

Where on (or in?!) their bodies are people accumulating so much water that it would soak the floor? ShockConfused

dementedma · 11/11/2017 14:14

All this horror of wet bath mats. What do you shower driers do if you have a bath? Let all the water out and get dried in the bath once its empty?

BertieBotts · 11/11/2017 14:17

Ah. Aha. Demented I think you're onto it.

Those of us who dry outside the shower were probably people who only discovered showering later in life with bathing being the default.

Whereas those who have always known showers were perhaps more likely to dry inside?

Who knows.

NotPennysBoat · 11/11/2017 14:21

It wouldn’t occur to me not to wet the bath mat, but I always dry in the cubicle because it’s warmer! Getting out soaking wet must be freezing!

paxillin · 11/11/2017 14:23

I pull out the plug. Stand up in the bath and dry top to bottom just as in the shower. Dry one foot (plus calf in this case), put it out of the bath, then the other.

You are all doing it wrong, it is very distressing to read Grin.

Firesuit · 11/11/2017 14:25

There's no right or wrong. If the cubicle is big enough (99% won't be) then it would be better to dry there, keeps drips in an area made for handling water. Otherwise outside.

There's no way that the drops from people drying themselves have caused a leak through the ceiling.

Shadowboy · 11/11/2017 14:34

I dry in the cubicle as it’s warmer in there. Ours is a double shower so plenty of room.

holdbackonthewine · 11/11/2017 14:38

Tedster77 me neither!

CaurnieBred · 11/11/2017 14:40

I wrap hair after washing (with a turban towel I have hung over door), then shower rest of body. Once finished, I take excess water off body using my flannel then, in the time it takes to squeegee and microfibre the screen and walls, both i and the shower are bone dry, apart from soles of my feet. And thus no bath towel required (but I do use a clean flannel every time). Better for my skin as not getting too dry

MouseholeCat · 11/11/2017 14:40

Always dried myself in the cubicle. I have a mild fear from childhood of stepping out onto cold, wet bathmats as my Dad was always up first and never bothered to dry himself off before stepping out of the shower. I converted DH to at least drying his feet before he steps out the shower which makes a huge difference.

IrritatedUser1960 · 11/11/2017 14:47

I,m not sure there is room to dry myself in the shower cubicle without bumping elbows and knees everywhere.
I have 2 towels, three if I'm washing my hair as well.
One goes on the floor then I step out and dry myself.

franktheskank · 11/11/2017 18:14

Some people seem terrified of being cold for a few moments!

BatteredBreadedOrSouthernFried · 11/11/2017 18:20

Stand and dry top downwards while it’s emptying until get to feet, one at a time.

Some people seem terrified of being cold for a few moments!

Dramatics much? Grin no, they just don’t like it. That’s different than fear.

Sparklingbrook · 11/11/2017 18:25

In the bath, I stand up, pull the plug out and start drying myself.

Who wants to be cold if they don't have to be?

paxillin · 11/11/2017 18:26

I'm not terrified of getting cold, but it is uncomfortable, so I try not to. Much like the rain, terrified is the wrong word, but I do try and stay out of it if I can.

treaclesoda · 11/11/2017 18:27

I hate being cold. And I really really hate being wet.

Cold and wet is nightmare stuff for me. Grin

HollyandBrambles · 11/11/2017 21:24

Following on from my ‘astonishment’ last night I tried today to get dry in the cubicle, I really did but I just couldn’t comprehend it, it’s wet in there!! Grin

Voice0fReason · 11/11/2017 21:42

No, not terrified, I would just prefer to avoid it if possible, and it is just as easy to dry whilst warm than it is to get cold in the process.

Those of us who dry outside the shower were probably people who only discovered showering later in life with bathing being the default.
Nope. I grew up only having baths and still have regular baths now.
I stand up, wrap the towel round me and step out onto the bathmat to get dry after a bath. No problem getting cold because the whole bathroom is warm after a bath.

franktheskank · 12/11/2017 10:39

Could always just put the heating on so it’s not so cold💁🏻

fantasmasgoria1 · 12/11/2017 10:52

I usually step onto the mat! Most of the time I go into the bedroom to finish drying myself!
