AIBU to think most people don't get dried in the shower cubicle?

Bone of contention between DH and I. He gets himself dried inside the shower cubicle while DC and I step onto the bath mat and get dried there.

Problem is we've had a leak through the kitchen ceiling and DH has pulled up the Lino and found rotten hardboard. Sad

Leaking shower tray? Dripping bodies??

This thread is making me feel like an absolute freak - I never dry myself, I just dry my feet on the bath mat then go and get ready (hair, makeup etc) and dry naturally?! I have never ever in my life stood and dried myself!

Jasminedes · 10/11/2017 21:03

I realised last year I never use the bath mat for its intended purpose, always dry inside cubicle and like a dry bathmat. Hate it when everyone gets it wet.

passionflower50 · 10/11/2017 21:05

We have had the same problem after much investigation it turned out to be where tiles weren't grouted and water was seeping through x

Pygmypuffhunt · 10/11/2017 21:05

But theft I have a nice heated towel rail! Doesn't the towel get soggy?

WhatALoadOfOldBollocks · 10/11/2017 21:06

I always dry in the cubicle (if big enough) or bath (I have a shower over bath) to avoid dripping water everywhere (that I'd then step into later with my sock on...yuk!). It means the water stays in the waterproof area and the bathmat and floor don't get soggy.

BulletFox · 10/11/2017 21:07

I squueze and shake after a shower then just get out and wrap up.

PurplePillowCase · 10/11/2017 21:08

I dry myself whilst getting out.
so I don't drip on to the mat.

but the rotten floorboards are not from a damp bathmat. you've go a leak somewhere.

theftbyfinding · 10/11/2017 21:10

Not it never gets at all wet because the shower head is not aiming at it. Maybe I'm just a very neat person (no one who knows me would agree with that of course!).

Bratsandtwats · 10/11/2017 21:10

I do a jiggle in the shower not quite like a dog shaking after a bath then I step on to the mat to finish drying.

CurlsandCurves · 10/11/2017 21:11

I’m too fat to dry myself in the cubicle. I need to move!

I tend to wander round the house in my towel or sit on my bed to dry.

BatteredBreadedOrSouthernFried · 10/11/2017 21:14

My shower is one of those quarter circle type cubicles and there seems to be enough space. I tend to use a hand towel to dry myself so it’s not flapping against the walls or dragging on the tray to get wet. I can’t stand the feeling of cold air hitting my wet skin so I dry as quick as I can. Also my shower is fitted in a way that means I step out and almost into the basin and then I have to shuffle the floor mat round to where there is more space so it’s less messy to just dry in the shower.

SpecialAgentDaleCooper · 10/11/2017 21:15

Well you must all have massive shower cubicles because I can't imagine getting dried off in ours without being a contortionist Confused.

We have a standard sized square shower cubicle, enclosed with tiles walls on 3 sides and bi-fold door on the fourth side. Fine for showering in but no good for drying yourself in.

Lozmatoz · 10/11/2017 21:17

It’s warmer in the cubicle!

Sparklingbrook · 10/11/2017 21:18

Sounds like there's some very ostentatious drying going on. Grin I don't need loads of room.

SpecialAgentDaleCooper · 10/11/2017 21:21

Too right Sparkling - my drying-off is like performance art, almost like a reverse of The Stripper with lots of flapping and waving of the towel. Very dramatic Grin

Sparklingbrook · 10/11/2017 21:22

Grin Mine is very understated with much patting. Grin

Urubu · 10/11/2017 21:28

Our shower is walk in and the towels are inside the shower area it is large enough to dry yourself there without any risk of touching the walls, I still dry myself by stepping out on the mat!! I just seems like the normal thing to do.

I love this kind of threads, makes you double think everything Grin

ivykaty44 · 10/11/2017 21:32

Our gym has etched notices asking people to towel dry themselves before leaving the shower.

Do what the fuck you like on your own home though, just be aware of the consequences 🤠

glitterlips1 · 10/11/2017 21:38

I dry in the shower. The leak is probably a leak from the shower itself. Perhaps the pipes etc.

hamburgers · 10/11/2017 21:39

I've never in my life heard of people drying themselves in the shower cubicle at home! Gym or leisure centre is a different scenario.

I get out of the shower and dry myself on the bath mat. DH steps out of the shower, wraps a towel around his hips, and dries naturally-ish leaving puddles of water all of them bathroom which drives me nuts.

paxillin · 10/11/2017 21:39

I dry in the cubicle. Warmer in there.

HollyandBrambles · 10/11/2017 21:41

I know I’ve already posted once but I’m just absolutely astonished that people would get dry IN THE CUBICLE!! ShockShock

Sparklingbrook · 10/11/2017 21:42

Is it really 'astonishing'? Grin

StealthPolarBear · 10/11/2017 21:45

Dh does this too. I had never heard of it till he started nagging the dc to do the same. I agree it's too damp and humid, one of my least favourite parts if swimming is trying to heave a sock on over a damp foot. I like to come out and dry in cool air.
That said, jasmine, what do you do when you go swimming?

pinkpopcorn · 10/11/2017 21:46

I get out, stamp feet on mat, wrap towel round me and then dry off in my room. So I seem to be in my own drying catergory compared to the rest of the thread Grin
