AIBU to think most people don't get dried in the shower cubicle?

Bone of contention between DH and I. He gets himself dried inside the shower cubicle while DC and I step onto the bath mat and get dried there.

Problem is we've had a leak through the kitchen ceiling and DH has pulled up the Lino and found rotten hardboard. Sad

Leaking shower tray? Dripping bodies??

I get out?? It’s all steamy and wet in the shower so I prefer to get dried where it’s drier.

Being in a wet steamy place to get dried is the main reason why I find public pools crap.

NerdyBird · 10/11/2017 20:14

We have a shower over bath as most shower cubicles are ridiculously small. I towel off in the bath. Turn shower off, get some water off arms and legs with hands, get towel off rail, dry arms, body and face. One foot on edge of bath, dry and step onto mat. Dry other foot, both feet on mat. Dry back. Wrap towel round hair. Wrap big towel round me whilst I do deo, moisturisers etc.

People getting out of the shower dripping wet annoy me as it means bathmats get soaked.

Your floorboard issue is much more likely to be a leak somewhere than just dripping though, esp if you have lino.

Boulshired · 10/11/2017 20:15

It depends on the amount of hair, my DD used to get out of the shower and leave large puddles. Rule for her is hair wrapped before she leaves the cubicle.

HollyandBrambles · 10/11/2017 20:17

What?! People get dry IN the shower cubicle?? Well that never even crossed my mind, the walls are all wet etc, I’d find that really weird! Shock

Petalflowers · 10/11/2017 20:19

I've never contemplated drying myself in the shower either. Iits too wet and cramped in there.

I step on the bath mat (actually towel on floor), wrap a towel around me then go into the bedroom to get dry.

whiteroseredrose · 10/11/2017 20:20

Shower has a door but the rail thingy at the bottom is incomplete now I think of it. I'll point that out to DH.

He's still being annoyingly holier than though.

The cubicle isn't huge but he dried himself inside the old one that was like doll-packaging too.

I like to lounge in my towel for an hour Grin

Etymology23 · 10/11/2017 20:21

I don't dry in the shower/bath but I also don't soak the bath mat like some people seem to. I squeeze the excess water out my hair before I get out and the only evidence I've dried myself are two damp footprints.

Ttbb · 10/11/2017 20:21

Start drying inside (wrong our hair, put towel around body) but do the rest outside. I really doubt that you could damage the floor boards by dropping on them.

theftbyfinding · 10/11/2017 20:22

I dry in the shower, wrap in a towel and step out to put a robe on before dressing in my bedroom. Not a drip to be seen. DH and ds on the other hand step soaking from the still turned on shower, to the mat, which is soaked so much it would never dry out on the radiator and requires a wash after each shower.

Sure the shower walls are wet but I'm not so big I'm bouncing off them. It's perfectly straightforward to try most of your body in there. Warmer too.

Deux · 10/11/2017 20:23

I do half and half. I wrap my hair in a towel when I'm still standing in the cubicle as I hate wet hair dripping down my neck. I quick dry my feet before I get out. DH on the other hand, well I just really don't know how he gets so much water everywhere. We have a large bath mat and the floor is still soaked. It's like a very large dog has shaken itself in there.

OP, try replacing the sealant around your shower. We had a leak and it was the sealant.

Bluetrews25 · 10/11/2017 20:26

We've got a tiny shower cubicle and skilfully manage to get dry in it without wiping the walls at the same time. It's warmer for us in what can be a cold house. Bathmat never gets wet enough to need draping on radiator.

moonamanda · 10/11/2017 20:27

We have a big walk in so it's easy to dry inside.
I'd like James Dyson to invent a full body dryer that you just walk through.

diddl · 10/11/2017 20:31

"but the rail thingy at the bottom is incomplete now I think of it. "

Well that might be it!

I get out to get a towel.

Ecureuil · 10/11/2017 20:32

I’m a bit confused... neither DH or I dry in the cubicle but the bath mat only ever has 2 wet footprints on. Maybe we have lizard skin.

lljkk · 10/11/2017 20:33

There are big whole body dryers like that at a swimming pool we sometimes go to.

It's freezing colder to open the doors before I've done some drying, but I hate the stuffy shower air. Hard to decide which is worse.

specialsubject · 10/11/2017 20:34

Towel left nearby. Turn off shower, grab towel, wrap up, then step on to mat.

Hairy blokes do hold more water though.

catkind · 10/11/2017 20:35

Nah, nothing to do with where you dry yourselves. More likely a leaky seal round the edge of the shower cubicle. Or something else entirely leaking.

ApproachingATunnel · 10/11/2017 20:40

I get dried standing in the bath because i hate having damp mats. To me they are there to warm my feet not soak up water.
DH disagrees and i have given up on trying to convert him.

I dont however think that simply drying yourself on a bath mat would cause leak like yours (unless you are proper dripping wet and leave it there for days to soak up increasingly more water).

Pygmypuffhunt · 10/11/2017 20:44

How do you reach the towel?!
I've never considered this! I do towel round me and then dry in the bedroom!

treeofhearts · 10/11/2017 20:45

I don't dry myself at all. I just wrap in a towel and then sprawl like that on my bed till I'm dry naturally.

OldWitch00 · 10/11/2017 20:48

I have a huge walk in double shower and dry off at the far end which tends to be dry. Then I place the towel on the floor to dry my feet. Not keen on slipping and cracking my skull.

Ecureuil · 10/11/2017 20:52

Not keen on slipping and cracking my skull

That’s why you have bath mats!

Hushabyelullaby · 10/11/2017 20:53

It has genuinely never occurred to me to dry in a cubicle, I asked DH and he said the same. I always used to dry after stepping out onto a shower mat, but we now have a wet room.

theftbyfinding · 10/11/2017 20:58

Pygmypuffhunt I throw the towel over the shower cubicle door before I get in. All you need is a little forward planning Grin
