AIBU to think most people don't get dried in the shower cubicle?

Bone of contention between DH and I. He gets himself dried inside the shower cubicle while DC and I step onto the bath mat and get dried there.

Problem is we've had a leak through the kitchen ceiling and DH has pulled up the Lino and found rotten hardboard. Sad

Leaking shower tray? Dripping bodies??

Yes!! I’m 37, it’s never even crossed my mind! 🤗

HemanOrSheRa · 10/11/2017 21:50

Hmmm. I'm pretty sure It's not sparkling Grin

CrochetBelle · 10/11/2017 21:53

What madness is this? Why do people stand somewhere wet and steamy to get dried?

I climb out (shower over bath), give my hair a rub, wrap the towel around, then fart around doing whatever needs done for about half an hour, then go put on fresh pyjamas some clothes.

paxillin · 10/11/2017 22:00

What madness is this?

It is really unsettling if people do things wrong.

PurplePillowCase · 10/11/2017 22:01

is no one drying their feet and between toes properly Shock

goes to buy share in athlete foot treatment

Sparklingbrook · 10/11/2017 22:01

Could get one of these boob towel things, put it on in the shower and wander around in it for a bit. Grin

I did get a hair turban/wrap thing but it was way too much of a faff.

OhDuhToilet · 10/11/2017 22:10

Ahahaha i have autism i have to sit by the heater in my room for a looong time before i am able to pull on some socks without wincing

PurplePillowCase · 10/11/2017 22:14

no autism, but my skin has to be completely dry before getting dressed. feels wrong otherwise.

I want one of those big dryers they have at theme parks in my bathroom!

Sparklingbrook · 10/11/2017 22:16

I do too Purple, that's why I never go swimming.

Charolais · 10/11/2017 22:21

We have big walk-in showers which have room for two people plus a bench or whatever. We made them like that because sometimes I’m on crutches and need to sit down or need help. We always dry inside the shower and so the mat stays pretty dry.

For some reason when our oldest son visits he gets the bath mat soaked and also the surrounding area. He’s had water running down the tile grout line and under the bathtub. I don’t know what the hell he does in there but it pisses me off.

melj1213 · 10/11/2017 22:59

I have a shower over the bath so I just turn the shower off, move down to the "non shower end" of the bath where the towels are hung up, flip my head over and give my hair a quick squeeze to get out as much water as possible as I have thick curly hair that holds water better than a sponge, before wrapping my hair up in the towel and giving my body a quick rub down to get rid of the excess water. Then I wrap the towel round myself, step out of the bath and stand on the mat while I give the bath a quick rinse and wipe down (I have cats who like to drink from the bath tap so I am always paranoid they are going to drink water that is full of shower gel/soap/shampoo and get ill) then go straight out of the bathroom to the bedroom to get dried properly & dressed

Voice0fReason · 10/11/2017 23:16

I've always dried myself inside the cubicle - far too cold to get out wet!

StealthPolarBear · 11/11/2017 08:08

Just tried it. I likes it but was impossible to get fully dry in the steamy environment

nokidshere · 11/11/2017 08:12

What an odd thing to be discussing Grin

I turn the water off, step out of the shower, wrap a towel round me then lie on the bed till I'm dry.

Sparklingbrook · 11/11/2017 08:36

Lie on the bed? Noooo. Make the bed all wet surely?

paxillin · 11/11/2017 10:37

My flatmate's dog used to do that. All bedroom doors had to bed closed after his bath or else he'd jump under the covers and roll around until dry.

StatueInTheSky · 11/11/2017 10:47

I think this is why I don't like swimming...the pressure to get as dry as possible as quick as possible!

If it is really cold old victorian house in the bathroom then I sometimes wrap up in a towel before opening the shower doors, but the whole point of a bathmat is surely that there is no undignified bending over to dry your feet. I am very tall and it is very very far to bend ;)

Then I mince about the bathroom, doing hair, face cream, sorting laundry, cleaning teeth, off to the bedroom and more faffing, and getting dresses when dry.

BertieBotts · 11/11/2017 12:20

I do sluice some water off before I leave the cubicle (arf, tis not really a cubicle, but it was quicker than saying bathandshowercurtainandwall.) so I don't drip massive amounts.

paxillin · 11/11/2017 12:22

Sluicing, BertieBotts Grin? I have an image of you with the squeegee.

ForalltheSaints · 11/11/2017 12:38

I don't. We have drip mats in the bathroom.

heron98 · 11/11/2017 12:39

I dry myself in the shower as it makes it far less cold when I step out

BertieBotts · 11/11/2017 12:49

Hang on perhaps that was the wrong word Blush I kind of push the water down with my hands so it sweeps off.

I don't like being cold after a shower but we have a tiny bathroom so as long as the door stays closed I can dry within there.

paxillin · 11/11/2017 12:55

Manual squeegeeing then. I do that when I am in a shower cubicle with a dripping shower so I can't dry in there.

My shower used to drip for 5 minutes after turning it off. This thread has told me why I was the only one who found this really irritating. I was probably the only one to dry in there!

Can't say I ever asked anybody in RL how they dry themselves, they'd probably think I lost the plot if I did.

BertieBotts · 11/11/2017 12:58

Oh yes that's true, our shower does drip, I'd never really thought about that, but that's another reason I wouldn't want to dry in there.

If you dropped the towel it would be awful. I can't be that clumsy that I worry about things like this? (Actually, I probably can.)

How do you do a hair towel turban in the shower?

paxillin · 11/11/2017 13:07

Wash hair under shower, head down. Turn off shower, blindly grab the towel perched on top of the shower screen. Make turban. Lowers shower head, shower the rest of the body. Grab second towel also perched up there, dry inside. Stand on one leg, drying first foot, put it out of the cabin, then dry second foot. I thought everyone does this, alas no!

I am the only one in the family who needs two towels so evidently others don't. I will go to environment-hell for my wastefulness no doubt.
