AIBU to think most people don't get dried in the shower cubicle?

Bone of contention between DH and I. He gets himself dried inside the shower cubicle while DC and I step onto the bath mat and get dried there.

Problem is we've had a leak through the kitchen ceiling and DH has pulled up the Lino and found rotten hardboard. Sad

Leaking shower tray? Dripping bodies??

DH just walks through the house dripping water everywhere, doesn't do a quick dry over. Drives me nuts!!

WowAnActualBaby · 10/11/2017 19:53

The correct procedure is:

  1. Open doors the tiniest amount to reduce ingress of cold air

  2. Slide arm through and grope madly for strategiaclly placed towel and whip it inside and close the gap as fast as possible

  3. Dry and repeat for underwear - exiting onto bath mat only when ready to rapidly get dressed

I think my house must be colder than most others... :-)

RandomMess · 10/11/2017 19:53

The rotten floorboard is probably failed sealant somewhere around the edge of the shower tray btw!

CakesRUs · 10/11/2017 19:53

I dry in 3 places, wrap hair and rub arms in shower wrap body in towel, step on to bath mat to brush teeth, go into bedroom to dry my hair and body.

I’d never actually thought about it before. Also 4 of us use 2 towels each a day, that’s got to stop!

Mumsiemummy1 · 10/11/2017 19:54

I've never dried in the cubi, and neither does dh. Always on the mat.

BexleyRae · 10/11/2017 19:54

I dry outside the cubicle, but I put a towel on top of the bath mat, dry my body and use the towel I've stood on to dry my hair

BertieBotts · 10/11/2017 19:55

God - no would never dry in the cubicle. The towel would get soaking wet from rubbing against the walls Confused Plus, it will be really damp in there.

Maybe as a PP said it's cubicle size related... I have never had a big enough one to test this out!

PUGaLUGS · 10/11/2017 19:55

I half dry myself in the cubicle and then dry legs and feet when I get out and stand on the mat.

Wolfcub · 10/11/2017 19:56

Dry in the shower. It’s warmer. The air chills noticeably the second you open the door. Not soaking the floor is also a huge benefit

Afternooncatnap · 10/11/2017 19:56

My dh goes on about this too. Apparently drying in the shower is what considerate people do (he's the most messy person I have ever met). I don't actually dry myself at all. I get out, wrap a towel around myself then brush my teeth. By the time I have finished I've air dried enough to put my clothes on.

whiteroseredrose · 10/11/2017 19:57

Randommess. I agree. There's probably a leak somewhere. Hope he investigates rather than blame me and DC!

Mine is a shower over a bath, so no warmer to stay in. Always get out, then put bath mat on radiator to dry.

chipscheeseandgravy · 10/11/2017 20:00

Just me that gets dried in the bedroom Blush

HemanOrSheRa · 10/11/2017 20:01

DP and I dry in the shower. DS on the other hand gets out and dries, soaking the bloody bathroom floor, not just the mat. Whoever goes in the bathroom after him gets wet feet/socks Angry. But there is no way it's enough water to rot floorboards. There will be a leak somewhere. Maybe not obvious though- water will track to a weak point.

DrDreReturns · 10/11/2017 20:02

I dry in the cubicle.

franktheskank · 10/11/2017 20:02

I get out shower wet and walk across the bathroom to get a towel and keep my towel on for ages while in dry my hair etc.

Wouldn’t occur to me to dry in the shower? I can’t be the only one who does this?

Hadenoughoftumble · 10/11/2017 20:05

Nearly everyone here seems to have shower cubicles! I have a shower over the bath so when I’m done I turn the shower off grab the towel while I’m still stood in the bath and roughly towel dry my hair then wrap the towel round myself and then step out onto the bath mat and go straight to my bedroom to properly dry myself.

liz70 · 10/11/2017 20:05

Shower over bath here. Robe and towel (plus hair wrap thingy if washing hair) hanging on door hook within reach. Robe and hair wrap are grabbed and put on while I'm still standing in the bath after the shower is stopped or the bath has drained. Then I grab towel and step out onto the bath mat, dry my lower legs with the towel and step into my bath slippers (slip on mule style). Rinse bath with shower attachment on taps end, hang rubber mat over bath rack, cloth mat over rail over radiator, and leave bathroom. Our floor tiles are ceramic so not much risk of water leakage, especially with my routine more so with DDs who don't know how to use shower curtains grrrr

CandyMelts · 10/11/2017 20:07

I have never even considered that people would dry in the shower Shock
The walls are covered in water!

Ecureuil · 10/11/2017 20:07

I didn’t know drying in the cubicle was a thing! Honestly has never occurred to me. I get out, get the towel off the towel warmer and dry on the mat.

dementedma · 10/11/2017 20:09

Itwould never have crossed my mind that people get dried in the shower! Learn something new every day

yowerohotesies · 10/11/2017 20:11

Dripping bodies couldn't possibly cause that much wet. There will probably have been a failure of the seal between the shower tray and the surrounding walls. Does the cubicle have a door or a curtain? If a curtain then the chances are that sometimes the water runs down the curtain onto the floor instead of into the tray.

bathghter · 10/11/2017 20:11

but the air is all moist and steamy in the shower. yuck, never. I’m an air dryer though i do not towel myself only wrap 💅🏿

Catsize · 10/11/2017 20:12

Your DH would like swimming pools on Iceland - dry yourself in the shower area then move to the changing area.

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 10/11/2017 20:14

Dry yourself inside the showe?r GrinGrinGrinGrinGrin. Heard it all now.
