Long and boring- sorry.

We've been on the council list for a while now. Yesterday, we were offered a place. It's PERFECT.

The officer than came back to check ours. That's when we came back down to earth with a bump...

She's told us that, as the place is ready now, we may not be able to do the work in time (I asked for a week). That's painting the place magnolia, and a deep clean (we have cats).

She's going back to the office on Monday, and it would put us in good stead, I think, to be able to tell her that we've already painted, nd the deep clean is booked (it is- first thing I did)

Give me hope, please? I spent last night sobbing my heart out (unlike me- I'm one tough mf).

On a side note, we feel we should have been told what was expected of us BEFORE we viewed...we could have done it way before now!

It's mainly just me and DH. My DB will give us a few hours this afternoon, and I've had tentative offers of help from a friend- but she has so much on that I wouldn't be surprised if she cried off. (She's lovely- she's just going through a berevement)

I can see the hall being an issue, it's Noddy Hat Blue!

Please give me hope? I'm going to make a start now before the DC wake up, and I have to start working around them!

Me too- but if we don't (sob) the sense of achievement is awesome!

DH has just said that the smell of gloss in the hall may cancel out the cat smell too 😀

I would email the housing officer and include photographs of all the rooms you have painted.

Send the email tonight so it’s in the box when they get in tomorrow

That way they can see your property before they offer the other property to anyone else

Also you have evidence you contacted them first thing

Agree 100% with ivy, you need to prove to the housing officer that you have done what they have asked and by emailing you have proof that you have done it.

I'm planning to call at 8.30 tomorrow, before they have the meeting.

I've actually just looked for an email address, and I can't find one for the right dept

What I do have is the officer's work mobile number...should I? I'm always a little meek about things like that...it would feel like an imposition.

Yes, perfectly doable. Stop crying and get the paint. 2 people can paint most average rooms in approximately 2-3 hours provided you're not also going to be glossing skirting boards. Depending on the colours you are painting over buy good quality one coat paint in magnolia, put a first coat on hall first (always a bugger to paint anyway) then work round the house doing main rooms first, kitchens and bathrooms don't take long as cabinets, fixtures take up wall room. Do them in the order hall stairs and landing (first coat since you have said this is the worst colour), living room, kitchen/diner, bathroom, main bedroom, rest of bedrooms then back to second coat the hall etc. Have one person do the cutting in, steadiest handed person, and the other roller the walls. If you are careful and have a steady hand you won't need to mask all the woodwork first. If you're not steady handed then get lots of masking tape. Also bulk buy wipes they are great for wiping up touches where the wall paint has got onto the gloss. Use dust sheets. Ask friends and family for old sheets and duvet covers they don't mind going icing the bin when you've finished.

Send to a generic email and text saying that photos have been emailed to such and such address but happy to forward them to her directly if she gives you an address?

Well done should have read the full thread before posting 😄 definitely take photos and email to agency/landlord or whoever it is to prove it's done and ring at 9.15 to tell them the email is there.

If the generic email is for example then send to that- but text then call first thing and let the officer know before the meeting

Good luck

HA do this when you move they expect you to put the house back to the way it was before you moved in they did it to me and my parents when we downsized.

Ironically, it was RANK when I moved in (10y ago). If I'd put it back to its original state, I would have had to go tip-robbing for multicolored carpets (not my sort of multicolored...think brown with blue, orange and poo colors) and my AIBU would have read:

"AIBU to beg, steal or borrow the following? Paints in sludge, mint green and brown, gloss in bottle green for the light switches, woodchip wallpaper, a thousand tiny little beads to throw into random colors around the house, a cupboard door which will fall of it's hinges if I breathe on it, and a cologne called Au de Cigar?"

I have found my use in life too...at my height, I'm too small to paint very high, but I can get on kitchen counters/on top of baths etc, where no one else would be able to stand up straight! 😀
