Long and boring- sorry.

We've been on the council list for a while now. Yesterday, we were offered a place. It's PERFECT.

The officer than came back to check ours. That's when we came back down to earth with a bump...

She's told us that, as the place is ready now, we may not be able to do the work in time (I asked for a week). That's painting the place magnolia, and a deep clean (we have cats).

She's going back to the office on Monday, and it would put us in good stead, I think, to be able to tell her that we've already painted, nd the deep clean is booked (it is- first thing I did)

Give me hope, please? I spent last night sobbing my heart out (unlike me- I'm one tough mf).

On a side note, we feel we should have been told what was expected of us BEFORE we viewed...we could have done it way before now!

It's mainly just me and DH. My DB will give us a few hours this afternoon, and I've had tentative offers of help from a friend- but she has so much on that I wouldn't be surprised if she cried off. (She's lovely- she's just going through a berevement)

I can see the hall being an issue, it's Noddy Hat Blue!

Please give me hope? I'm going to make a start now before the DC wake up, and I have to start working around them!

It’s tight because you might need a few coats of paint to cover those colours but doable.
Can you not accept the new flat now and keep the old flat for an extra week and pay double rent?
My mums council allows you to pay rent on two properties for a short while if you can’t move immediately.

You can definitely do it. Good luck.

Ah cross posted that’s a shame your council can’t be more flexible.

Just make sure you keep an eye on them when painting. Who knew that paint splatters would travel so far when a 12yr old gets hold of a paint roller.

There's paint on the floor...but it wipes off. I've checked.

How strange! I've never heard of painting a council flat on your way out just because the current decor isn't "neutral".

Ours doesn't give a shite what state properties are in- but we're south east so there's always a hundred odd people desperate enough to take anything.

But anyway.... you can absolutely do it. White all over. The main time painting is always have to line the coloured paint up neatly along skirtings and ceilings. Do it all the same colour and it'll be a doddle (ish).

Keep going! One wall at a time, one music track at a time? Put an FBI post out asking anyone who's got half an hour to help paint to drop in? [Checks FB]

For quickest drying you want the windows open AND the heating on. Moving warm air is the best (like a hairdryer!). If you've got a fan, you could put that on too.

Also, make sure that you wipe the paint off the floor while it's still wet. It may still come off when dry, but it'll be harder work. Good luck!

Oh btw I think they are being unreasonable given the state of some of the properties they hand over. As long as it's clean it shouldn't matter as the new tennant will properly paint to their own taste.

If you want to paint over the Noddy blue, paint light yellow first. (Like pale, buttery primrose.). I promise it will help.

Good luck. You can definitely do it in two days. Make sure you eat and stop when you're tired - you can always get up early tomorrow.

I hope you took photos of the rooms before so we can admire the transformation in two days!

Holy fucking oranges...

WE DID IT!!!!!!

DH is putting just the last touches to the glossing now!

We have to mop the hall floor (the lounge took us about 20 mins and there was even more paint on that)

We totted it up, and it's taken us 23 hours in total.

If I never see another pot of magnolia again, it's too soon.

Well done. Never again will I say I’ve not got time to decorate FlowersWine

You can! Especially if someone can have the kids.

We painted render, the hall stairs and landing, took 4 carloads to storage and several to the tip and deep cleaned in a weekend.
