Tell me I can get the whole place walloped in a weekend...

Long and boring- sorry.

We've been on the council list for a while now. Yesterday, we were offered a place. It's PERFECT.

The officer than came back to check ours. That's when we came back down to earth with a bump...

She's told us that, as the place is ready now, we may not be able to do the work in time (I asked for a week). That's painting the place magnolia, and a deep clean (we have cats).

She's going back to the office on Monday, and it would put us in good stead, I think, to be able to tell her that we've already painted, nd the deep clean is booked (it is- first thing I did)

Give me hope, please? I spent last night sobbing my heart out (unlike me- I'm one tough mf).

On a side note, we feel we should have been told what was expected of us BEFORE we viewed...we could have done it way before now!

It's mainly just me and DH. My DB will give us a few hours this afternoon, and I've had tentative offers of help from a friend- but she has so much on that I wouldn't be surprised if she cried off. (She's lovely- she's just going through a berevement)

I can see the hall being an issue, it's Noddy Hat Blue!

Please give me hope? I'm going to make a start now before the DC wake up, and I have to start working around them!

I think I'm only allowed to post three...so we have Old Man Brown, Round Window, and a kitchen that I can finally swing more than a cat in!

So so happy for you. Love seeing your updates on this post. It looks a lovely home. That Brown colour is horrible but I'm positive you will soon have that sorted.

Your brown walls look a lot like Farrow and Ball's Elephants Breath. People pay good money for that Glitterball
The house looks fabulous though, congrats.

Thank you! I wouldn't have been able to do it without all the support in RL and on here!

I'll probably be posting on here in a panic when I have a wobble about getting the place habitable in time for our Thanksgiving do (Next Saturday...eek!) The carpet fitters are xoming next Wednesday, and we should have painted the lounge, hall and stairs by then. (MAGNOLIA, can you believe it? Only temporary...but it'll do until the new year).

Looks fab, am so happy for you.

I still remember that utter joy at the last two properties we've been offered, and the pleasure in making them a home. Next time you go there, take something special to hang on the wall, that helps it really feel like yours. I have a wooden Laura Ashley 'Home Sweet Home' plaque that is always the first thing I do in a new house.

Looks lovely Rad! I love a bit of painting and DIY but you've gone over and above Grin

Will be fab when it's done.

Radley by the time you've licked this place into shape (which will be very shortly if experience of your last mad dash is a good predictor) come on over and teach me. The room I've claimed as mine in our new house is pink. REALLY pink Grin

That's a good house. Great bones. Looks like a happy house.

Well, yesterday was a little random!

We'd all been over to the new house the night before, to take a carload over and measure for curtain rails.

I fell asleep on the (concrete) lounge floor...

THEY LEFT ME THERE!

Apparantly, I was in too deep a sleep for them to move me!

I had to be there yesterday morning anyway, to meet the new cleaner. I woke up about a half hour before she was due to arrive. The place looked like a squatter's paradise! Two fold up garden chairs, the sleeping bag DH had thrown over me, 7up cans- all on the floor. I'd slumped with my head on a pile of curtains, and they were sort of strewn too.

I'd taken a shower the night before, so was wearing my night stuff. I didn't even bother getting dressed after the meeting: just did the Walk Of Shame to the cab in my My Little Pony onesie (with feet!) back to the flat, crawled into bed, and slept for another 10 hours!

I think it's catching up with me.

Luckily we're on the home stretch now. 80% packed, and we have DH's work van for the whole weekend, so losing a day isn't a disaster.

WE HAVE A LOUNGE!

I fell down the stairs...that's them christened then.

It was like an episode of Benny Hill here earlier. DH and the guy (workmate) who helped drag all the heavy stuff...there's a language barrier between them (I speak Polish, so usually not an issue) and they were like "Pull...wait...STOP!...huh?...pardon?" with me flitting between the two, translating.

We now have somewhere to sleep, the cooker is set up, there's a pasta bake in the oven and...this'll do for a bit.

I also have mumsnet juice wifi now!!!!!!

THE HOUSE
The cornerstone in Truth is laid,
The guardian walls of Honour made,
The roof of Faith is built above,
The fire upon the hearth is Love:
Though rains descend and loud winds call,
This happy house shall never fall.

THE DOORSTEAD
The lintel low enough to keep out pomp and pride:
The threshold high enough to turn deceit aside:
The doorband strong enough from robbers to defend:
This door will open at a touch to welcome every friend.

THE HEARTHSTONE
When the logs are burning free,
Then the fire is full of glee:
When each heart gives out its best,
Then the talk is full of zest:
Light your fire and never fear,
Life was made for love and cheer.

THE SUN-DIAL
Time can never take
What Time did not give;
When my shadows have all passed,
You shall live.

That just sent shivers down my spine...

May I steal this please? I have a huge piece of white board I was thinking of painting a sunset on...but I want to script that ^^ on it instead now.

On a more boring note...is this really naff?

I personally don't like it but it's not my house, whatever floats your boat (and your dh's) is all that matters 😊

Good wishes for many happy years in your new home 🏡

Ha! Sleeping on the curtains!

The cats have decided that the blanket box is theirs to sleep in. Sod the fact that they've got three times as much room as they had...a tiny blanket box it is!

thinking of joining them
