To wonder where the fuck my face went????

Had the first opportunity/occasion to put on a proper face of make up since I had DS. Had a leisurely shower, a face mask, sat down with a small amount of actual time to myself, excited to feel like Peapod again rather than a washed out Mammy. I applied my usual evening 'face', which used to look nice I think yet I somehow looked like a clown. I've aged soooo badly!! My face has sagged and is certainly not where I left it last time I paid it proper attention. What the hell gravity? I didn't sign up for this shit!

Anyone else care to share the point they realised they were no longer youthful? Or more importantly, tips to give the illusion that my face is still on the front of my head rather than dangling below my jaw?

I am early forties and I got ID’d a couple of weeks ago. I could not work out if the cashier was having a laugh at my expense. I asked if he was having a laugh, and he told me (deadpan) I looked young enough to ask (I do not). I told him he was very sweet, but that was not true.

Still, it made me smile. I look my age. I cannot imagine it looking younger, that would be odd.

I need a face bra. Sad

To wonder where the fuck my face went????
iago · 31/10/2017 20:30

If you think this is bad, just wait until you are 67!

diddl · 31/10/2017 20:33

And

face bra

I'm in my 50s (well into them), my face takes half an hour every morning to "fall into itself", if I want to give myself a scare I look in the mirror 15 mins after getting out of bed... Shudder!!!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 31/10/2017 20:35

I'm 51 and last month I was on a late night bus , the only passenger. As I watched the CCTV camera images on screen, I saw MY MOTHER sitting there , in my clothes, on my seat !

Its ALL GONE !
Face. Gravity. Hair Colour.
Gone !

KERALA1 · 31/10/2017 20:36

I wish veils would come back, preferably black lace ones. I used to turn heads when I walked down the street. Not any more!

ImogenTubbs · 31/10/2017 20:36

I tuned 40 in August and I suddenly really notice it. Doesn't help that I've just started a new job where I have to do a lot of video conferencing and it's hard for me to concentrate on the subject of the call as I keep getting distract my just how soft my face is and how I've got this weird line running vertically down the entire depth of my forehead.

iammargesimpson · 31/10/2017 20:38

I'm 44 and have jowls also, v depressing. I rarely wear contact lenses as it seems to highlight eye wrinkles, u stick to my heavy frame glasses to hide behind and the best thing is the grey hair, I can't take colour if any kind (scalp tingles and then burns within ten mins of applying). I started swimming recently and caught sight if myself in a full length mirror in a swimsuit, the horror! The picture is etched in my mind! Getting to middle age is hard!!

Etaina · 31/10/2017 20:41

I find the best way to deal with this is to spend as little time as possible looking in mirrors and never to have my photo taken. I used to take ages putting my make up on in the morning but now I can only stand looking at myself for 5 minutes so I'm super quick now! I never look at myself in the mirror later in the day.

Nomoretears56 · 31/10/2017 20:41

Ah ladies, it happens to us all, a smile and a twinkle in your eye is all you need. Also who cares at the end of the day, we're all getting older and every generation after us will get older, no point worrying. Be confident and stand tall.

Armi · 31/10/2017 20:44

I’m 42 and suddenly look awful. My eyes have gone all sunken with great black shadows under them. On close examination, it seems to be because my face is sliding down over my cheekbones. I look like death on a stick.

CoffeeAndCupcakes85 · 31/10/2017 20:45

Don't 😭. I'm only in my early 30s and this has happened. I don't know when it all changed?! Don't get me started on my sallow skin and eye bags on top of eye bags 😭.

TheEmmaDilemma · 31/10/2017 20:45

You hit 40. It takes my face at least a full hour when I wake up to put itself back in place. And even then, meh!

TheEmmaDilemma · 31/10/2017 20:48

Hang on, is this why older people get up extra early?! Is it to allow for face fall and squishing to fall back into place?

Have I solved an age old mystery? Wink

RaskolnikovsGarret · 31/10/2017 20:50

Mine collapsed at 32.

FeeLock28 · 31/10/2017 20:51

Tips: lighten your make-up - as the melanin leaves your skin you'll need paler shades. If you dye your hair, look to lighten the shade or consider highlights. Your basic colouring will be the same so look for colours that you like but that pearlesce. Make up will never work if you try to obliterate features you don't like, but enhancing what you do like is more sensible.

If you're thinking of changing your wardrobe (new cosmetics and clothes don't need to cost a fortune), suggest you look on this as a new opportunity rather than papering over the cracks. We none of us can avoid ageing - well, we can, but it's a trifle permanent - but being content with getting older is key. Have a wander through images of older women whose style you admire.

I can pretty much guarantee that no one else is as severe a critic as you are of yourself, so you are the only one who can give yourself a break. Once you've got used to how you look now, you can do as I do, and absolutely give not one single fuck.

purplecollar · 31/10/2017 20:53

When I sleep on my side my face gets a crease in it that doesn't go away for hours.

What helps is exercise and also eating a lot of rocket (the lettuce type). I eat bags of rocket instead of crisps. It makes your skin lovely the next day. Sleep also helps but that can be hard to find with small dc.

Years ago there were people on This Morning demonstrating facial exercises. I think they probably have a DVD out there somewhere. But they did seem to have tight faces despite being older.

Puppymouse · 31/10/2017 20:53

I took a photo a couple of times this summer of me with one of my animals or DD. Every single one I had to ignore all the laughter lines crows’ feet that I’m sure I didn’t have last year Sad

KERALA1 · 31/10/2017 21:01

Biologically makes sense for us to be gorgeous 15-30 then...not.

Still look on the bright side it's nice not being sexually harassed and didn't take me long to look scary for Halloween.

yumyumpoppycat · 31/10/2017 21:02

38 here I look awful - I used to always get IDd too but now look like an old lady, if I let my hair go grey like it wants to I could probably pass for 50. I think it is because I have a round face and big nose and no cheek bones. Also dieting followed up by eating too much crap, stress and lack of sleep ( lack of sleep part is my fault though as it is usually prompted by Netflix addiction).

TealStar · 31/10/2017 21:02

I bought a faradic toning tool - it’s like doing face yoga for lazy people - and it seems to have really helped me. I’m 42 and have been using it for about six months. It’s lifted my cheeks and tightened my jawline.

spiderlight · 31/10/2017 21:02

I suddenly started looking like a Basset Hound in a Hallowe'en wig at about 42 or 43. Didn't need a mask tonight :(

Delatron · 31/10/2017 21:06

It just all seems to be so sudden. One minute you're getting asked for ID at 35, the next you're looking at a face full of wrinkles. Nobody seems surprised when I say 41 anymore.
I keep meaning to try face yoga....

Delatron · 31/10/2017 21:08

Tealstar that's interesting. I bought a Rio facial toning thing. I used it for a few weeks but then it broke! Currently waiting for a replacement and hoping to see some results. I have tried Caci too but you need to have it every month I think.
