I'll start.

Don't buy venetian blinds. They're such a pain to clean.

Yup. You were right mum ( as I cough up a dust cloud and they still look grubby...)

'Least said, soonest mended' was one of her mantras - if you don't take it too far and never stick up for yourself and therefore become a doormat.

spankhurst · 28/10/2017 17:56

Never have a relationship with a colleague.
People aren't taking that much notice of you, stop worrying.

OhGodWhatTheHellNow · 28/10/2017 17:56

My Ex, sadly. She nearly burst not saying saying I Told You So when we split.

Olddear · 28/10/2017 17:56

She was right about everything. In fact, if she was here, she'd tell you that herself.....

Miss my mum sooooo much.....

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 28/10/2017 17:57

Dust Venetian blinds by putting a sock over your hand and wiping. Not speedy, but very effective. No, my mum didn't give me that tip. Smile

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 28/10/2017 17:59

Live together before getting wed.
You only need a nightie on honeymoon in case of fire.

Crackednips · 28/10/2017 18:03

That Jimmy Saville was "interfering with children"!

She worked as a secretary at Southwark probationary services.

HoneyWheeler · 28/10/2017 18:05

Don’t put bras in the tumbler dryer! Good one Mum.

BackforGood · 28/10/2017 18:07

That I'd regret not doing my piano practice.

Wish I could tell her how much I now understand about things she did, that I didn't understand at the time Sad

WhatwouldAryado · 28/10/2017 18:09

Meh. Stopped clock is right twice a day.

DavetheCat2001 · 28/10/2017 18:11

My mum always said you can't buy friendship, and if people aren't nice to you then fuck 'em off..they're not worth it (she didn't use the expression 'fuck 'em off' as she was very well spoken and never swore)

Never a truer word said. I spent many unhappy high school years trying to be in with the 'cool gang' and being unhappy a lot of the time. Wish I would have taken her advice back then and saved myself a lot of heartache.

Sgtmajormummy · 28/10/2017 18:11

"There's nothing new under the sun, my dear."
Said after reading an article in my 1990s Cosmopolitan magazine about how to give a good BJ.

I was ShockBlush but she was rightWink.

RIP DM born 1932.

Bluelonerose · 28/10/2017 18:12

Save your change.
She used to drive me batty having a money box to put her change in then paying it into bank every week. Plus I HAD to do it too Angry

She was right!
I don't notice the change going and it's turning into a nice little savings pot.

ArseholesOnToast · 28/10/2017 18:13

Never trust a man with a dimple in his chin. Ummmmm...thanks for that mum

😂

DavetheCat2001 · 28/10/2017 18:14

She also told me never to run after anybody..be it people who claim to be your friends and who really aren't, and definitely not a man!

ArseHair · 28/10/2017 18:16

Pretty much everything, except she insists you shouldn't look at a full moon through glass.... Confused

TheEgregiousPeach · 28/10/2017 18:17

Nearly everything, but consider a sperm donor for children and don't ever get married was a bit random

Bubbington · 28/10/2017 18:17

summer vests, who knew ...

coldcanary · 28/10/2017 18:17

My Ex. She saw it. He was and remains the biggest POS I have ever had the misfortune to meet. I wasted far too long on him.

tinypop4 · 28/10/2017 18:18

That I should continue with my badly timed and unexpected pregnancy because even though I thought I wouldn't, I was very likely to love my baby and everything would be okay in the end.

I loved her indeed and it was all okay!

Gingernaut · 28/10/2017 18:19

After reducing left-handed me to tears trying to teach me how to knit..

"If you just sit down and CONCENTRATE you might learn something!"

She was right in a funny kind of way.

I have ADHD. Confused

Now I can sit down and concentrate, I can learn something.

Not knitting though, can't follow a knitting pattern. Thanks, Dyslexia...Sad

GerdaLovesLili · 28/10/2017 18:19

Nothing. Absolutely nothing. If I"d realised earlier, "d have had a much more fulfilling life :-(

Fadingmemory · 28/10/2017 18:21

That I chose the wrong career path. Hated it so my mother was right.

Areyoufree · 28/10/2017 18:22

Never trust a charming man.

Damnpeskykids · 28/10/2017 18:23

That it’s ok to make mistakes, you don’t have to be a perfect parent to have happy children.
I miss her so much it hurts my heart. Sad
