Paying £100's for mongrels

All I have seen on Facebook is adverts selling so called ‘designer’ puppies for ridiculous amounts of money.
All these Jackerpoos, cockerpoo, yorkieshit etc are basically mongrels, it amazes me why people would pay £700+ for a mongrel.
The definition of mongrel is:
Any animal resulting from the crossing of different breeds or types.
We rescued our little Westie from travellers, she had been bred and bred until she became of no use, the amount of different puppies they were selling was unreal, crossing them with everything.
Surely the worry will be that if these dogs keep being inbred all the time then the true breed will disappear, Facebook should ban the selling of any animal, especially on the run up to xmas!

Pray do tell where I have been aggressive.

Also, when you come on a public forum and spout incorrect information about something you are new to, prepare to be corrected by those with a great deal of experience.

Your posts are tedious ProfessorCat.

At least you know if you choose to spay you can continue to show, Wolfie. I assume your bitch is endorsed anyway so breeding wouldn't be an option unless you fulfill the requirements.

ProfessorCat · 29/10/2017 21:52

@NumberEightyOne

That's nice.

Thank you Professor. I am sure you can understand why it's not something I would take on lightly. Want to do the best for her but also it isn't something that's reversible if you get it wrong.
She absolutely is endorsed. I am fairly sure the breeder would remove the endorsements if my bitch remained fit and well and she was happy I had chosen a suitable (health tested etc) mate. And had obviously done all the tests myself.
But I do NOT have the expertise to be a breeder. I'm still learning as an owner! Grin

It's incredibly refreshing to come across someone who has done things the correct way and bought a dog from someone who clearly knows what they're doing and cares about the welfare of their breed.

Yes, it's a big decision. IMO it makes things a lot easier with regards to seasons and is better health wise but comes with obvious risks.

Professor I researched for a couple of years. Spent a couple on breeders waiting lists. Bought a dog from someone who has been in the breed many years but only bred a handful of litters. (When they want to keep a dog or bitch)
I was really worried about taking on such a specialist and giant breed. I was a absolutely determined to avoid any hint of puppy farmers. (Bastards are rife in all breeds!)
I may not be "known" (and probably never will!) by the top breeders but I am lucky enough to have made contact with a lot of very experienced people who have been happy to offer much welcome advice to this complete newbie!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 29/10/2017 22:27

Professor - no-one minds you giving the benefit your knowledge and experience - In fact we welcome it - however your manner is very sarcastic, patronising and condescending, even you don't intend to come across like this, you do.

It's not necessary.

I was willing to pay a lot for my cockapoo, not because he was a 'designer' dog but because I knew he was coming from a reputable breeder and his parents were both KC registered, all the relevant tests were carried out, I was able to meet both parents and I know for certain that the breeders are fantastic with all their dogs.

Anywhere else I searched that were quite a bit cheaper were not able to tick all the boxes for me to feel confident in their practices.

The breeder I purchased my dog from does also breed pedigree miniature schnauzers and these were only priced £50 cheaper than my dog.
