To wonder what the hell? A Domino's pizza is £20??

Scabbersley · 23/10/2017 20:29

Dd is having a party and has asked for Domino's. I haven't had a Domino's pizza for about 25 years. Just went on the website and one large pizza is £20!

So 7 pizzas would cost £140.

What the actual hell??

This thread has cracked me up Grin. some people barely seem to eat. It's a takeaway, it's a special treat, you can't share one pizza between 12 teenagers ....... plus factoring in they may have had a drink or three .... they needed it to soak it up.

Scabbersley · 25/10/2017 16:02

It all went. They needed something to fuel the singing and dancing to 'tainted love' Confused

Lets not pretend that Dominos, especially the thick based ones, in any way resembles proper pizza.

I didn’t say it was ‘proper pizza’ I said it was a ‘proper takeaway pizza’ there is a difference. Of course dominoes et al aren’t proper pizzas in the Italian senseGrin

Can't fault 'em

Coconutspongexo · 25/10/2017 16:33

Pizzas in supermarkets aren't really proper pizza either.

Doesn't mean they're not nice!

DailyMailReadersAreThick · 25/10/2017 16:46

The supermarket pizza bases are horrible. No taste and the texture is all wrong.

Also funny that the people who can eat an entire large Domino's pizza to themselves don't realise they are very much in the minority thank god

19lottie82 · 25/10/2017 17:28

The “supermarket pizza is better”, “it’s just posh cheese on toast”, “£20 for a pizza which tastes like shite”, “soooooo expensive” chat is wearing a bit thin.

Some people actually like dominos, and £10-14 for a take away that will usually feed 2 people is not expensive!
Yes you can buy pizza in the supermarket for cheaper but that’s not a take away. The same could apply to supermarket curries, Mexicans and burgers.

thunderpunt · 25/10/2017 17:49

Maybe try an independent Italian restaurant/ pizzeria. Ours are 12” stonebaked, hand stretched and actually made by a proper Italian Wink And none of our pizzas are over £10 - margherita being £7.95
However they are ‘authentic’ so none of your deep pan, stuffed crust stuff or fruit in inappropriate places (ie no flipping pineapple!)
Give an independent a try...you might be pleasantly surprised!

thunderpunt · 25/10/2017 17:52

Btw I did read the thread and realise OP has already sorted but this was just a general plea to anyone and everyone to remember to support independent high street shops and restaurants and not always use huge chains who often find ways of not paying as much tax as they could

CherryChasingDotMuncher · 25/10/2017 18:24

Thanks to this thread I said to DH “fancy a dominoes tonight?”.

His reply?

“There’s a Dr Oetker in the freezer” 😩

This has been the funniest thread in ages. I am nicking the party idea for dd's 10th birthday next year. It sounds ace

"However they are ‘authentic’ so none of your deep pan, stuffed crust stuff or fruit in inappropriate places (ie no flipping pineapple!)"

We have an Italian authentic pizza place but they aren't Nazis, you can have pineapple if you want.

Love takeaway pizza, and Dominos, but it is an absolute rip off to be fair.
£18 a pizza here, but there's usually a BOGOF offer on etc.
Still outrageously expensive so we hardly ever use them and use the local takeaway instead which is just as nice but a lot cheaper!

pisacake · 25/10/2017 22:32

£8 is what we pay and it's not that expensive compared to kebab, fish + chips, etc. Some takeaway places use nasty fake cheese. I've had enough shitty local takeaway pizza to not want to risk trying anymore.

CherryChasingDotMuncher · 25/10/2017 22:37

Never mind the kids birthdays, I want mine to involve dominoes pizza, tents, cider, s’mores and Krispy Kremes 😋😋😋

OP will you be my Mum please Grin

Scabbersley · 26/10/2017 08:48

CherryChasingDotMuncher Grin

And commiserations on the Dr Oetker Sad

Oh I meant to say I negotiated 'free' stuffed crust as well as the two for Tuesday deal.

Apparently stuffed crust and dip is very important to 16 year olds.

The bonfire is still smouldering and I've just found a small empty bottle of pear vodka in the bottles box Hmm

I have reclaimed my sitting room, deep clean, thorough hoover, cushions in the wash. As I am not feeling at all well I am going to sit in it and watch House all morning while my teens tidy the garden. This is the absolute best bit of having a successful teens party - when they are feeling emotional and grateful you can get them to do anything Grin

Worth £70 of pizza if you ask me.

"Of course dominoes et al aren’t proper pizzas in the Italian sense"

Pizzas aren't Italian.

Pizzas were a generic name for stuff cooked on a flatbread and then that developed and varied, region to region, from the Middle East outwards.

A pizza is anything you want it to be.

Rebeccaslicker · 26/10/2017 09:01

Glad it went well! I have also fallen foul of this - before I discovered the tab on the domino's app to show the deals and ended up paying about £40 for 2 pizzas!

(Doesn't help that I like to "make my own" so of course pay for each of the ten million toppings...)

SilverSpot · 26/10/2017 09:03

Glad it went well Op!

Scabbersley · 26/10/2017 09:06

Thanks! For anyone still reading I'd like to report that 6 large stuffed crust Domino's pizzas between 12 teens is just a bit more than enough. They struggled a bit eating it all, but luckily dh manfully stepped up to clear the backlog.

Floralnomad · 26/10/2017 16:33

If you can afford it and it's what they want then it's worth the money .Glad they enjoyed it .

CherryChasingDotMuncher · 27/10/2017 15:27

DH has offered to get us a Dominoe’s tonight. Ive been obsessing about one since this thread (and the Dr Oetker tasted crap). I’m counting the hours down to dinner time 😂
