To wonder what the hell? A Domino's pizza is £20??

Scabbersley · 23/10/2017 20:29

Dd is having a party and has asked for Domino's. I haven't had a Domino's pizza for about 25 years. Just went on the website and one large pizza is £20!

So 7 pizzas would cost £140.

What the actual hell??

I love Papa John's thin crust veggie one. And I can eat a large.

DeleteOrDecay · 23/10/2017 23:53

Papa johns is by far the best takeaway pizza and you get loyalty points.

Yes! Papa Johns is so underrated. That special garlic sauce is amazing.

GlitterGlassEye · 23/10/2017 23:53

lol cherry

Nessalina · 24/10/2017 03:50

Totally agree that a) four pizzas for 12 is a hopelessly inadequate amount of food, and b) your daughter will be mortified if you cop out with supermarket pizza! She'll have told all her friends that they're getting Dominos already.
Me and DH always get a large each because it does us for lunch the next day too Grin One between two will be a good spread for 12, so get 6, and unless there's a combo deal on, don't be tempted by the chicken strips - they're even worse value than the pizza!!

Ttbb · 24/10/2017 03:54

They are essentially priced double because they are skyways on offer. Why don't you get Tesco pizzas instead? Most bigger Tesco offer a cooking service so it will come ready in a box just like dominoes but it will taste far better and cost half as much.

MrsKoala · 24/10/2017 04:04

DH and I eat a large one each.

Once me exH ordered them twice in one day. We were hung over and ordered a large one each AND wedges and dippers and a bottle of coke for lunch. Then went back to bed and ordered exactly the same again for dinner. I was so please when it arrived i did a dance, not realising there was a crack in the curtains. When i opened the door i said 'oh i'm so pleased you are here' and the guy said, totally flat and deadpan, 'yeah, i could see you doing your happy dance'. Blush Grin

I am chuckling at 16 year olds making their own Grin

MrsKoala · 24/10/2017 04:05

Also 'it's just fucking cheese on toast' is what i always say when i order it - we never have a deal and i'm always hung over and don't care at the time.

The possible discount available for a big collected order on a Tuesday will be better than 50%. When the NHS used to try to keep to 13 week wait the staff were bribed to work an extra couple or three theatres on a Sunday. Of course the staff are still due a lunch break, but we all have better things to do, especially the medical staff. So if we started at 0800, on the dot, and all worked through lunch we, the docs, got Dominos to deliver to the theatre for 1200. I cannot remember how many we bought but we got the works, pizzas, wedges, sauces, fizzy water, softies and usually a bit of leftovers from Sat night a bonus. They were delivered in the keep warm bags which were collected the following weekend and about half staff were vegetarian so carefully divided into two lots. There was always loads left over. We made a deal with the local manager (OK Sunday 1200 delivery so he may have just needed to get an extra member staff in half an hour early). The bill for 2 theatres was £60 and for 3 theatres about £100. A theatre team is about 8. I make no comment about number of pizzas to order, just the discount you can get. We were paying about 30% of the list price, delivered.

There are comments above about profit margin, it is truly unbelievable. The published ROCE for Dominos UK and Ireland in annual accounts is between 60-70% so the gross margin has to be more. One further comment, Dominos is not a food supplier, it is a software company. When after a few beers you pull out your phone and tap "my regular order" everything, from putting order on "production line", arranging position in delivery schedule and visiting your credit card needs no human intervention.

Happy Birthday dd, have a great time Wine Glitterball

PickledPeppermint · 24/10/2017 05:30

Remember to order extra dips! No one wants to be sharing the free dip per pizza between 12 of them!

19lottie82 · 24/10/2017 05:38

£70 for a take away for 12 people isn’t expensive!

sharklovers · 24/10/2017 07:13

I'm more concerned that OP already bought the Krispy Kremes tbh. Stale doughnuts won't be nice... (Krispy Kremes are never that nice the next day.)

Was just thinking the exact same thing! Eat KKs on the day or not at all.

Scabbersley · 24/10/2017 08:00

I bought Krispy Kremes because, as I've said a few times, I live IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE.

They will not give a shit if they aren't perfect.

Well I think if that take away is a few slices of posh cheese on toast it IS expensive

50OFFWEB. I don't think I've ever paid full price for any order of dominos ever. There's other deals too btw.

Scabbersley · 24/10/2017 08:06

Please don't worry everyone Grin

She is definitely getting Domino's pizza and I am getting 7 to include dh.

Now if anyone knows any deals for rekorderlig that would be great.

So who is paying for the beer. My 16 year old wouldn’t have friends around on her birthday as she said they would all be sneaking in beer . Lol

Hope you enjoy and you dd does too .

Scabbersley · 24/10/2017 08:15

Yo be precise, I am ordering 6 large and 2 medium. She has asked via group chat what flavours they all want. They have crisps, Krispy Kremes and marshmallows and chocolate biscuits to make smores, two tents, fairy lights and a bonfire.

Scabbersley · 24/10/2017 08:16

I am providing fruit cider, they are all 16 apart from three of them and I have checked with parents. If they smuggle in vodka then dd will have to deal with it, I have made it clear if there is any funny business I will appear in my pyjamas

RJnomore1 · 24/10/2017 08:19

I'd be much more worried about the mix of 16 year olds, alcohol and a bonfire than anything to do with pizza.

WhatAPunch · 24/10/2017 08:21

That sounds like an amazing birthday!
It is expensive but they'll love it. Good luck, hope all goes well.

Scabbersley · 24/10/2017 08:34

rj we did it before for dd1 17th and it was fine. I know all the kids well, dh builds a good bonfire. I know you can never be sure but we will give them a lecture and then let them get on with it.

I hate to say it but the quality of Dominos far outweighs any other pizza takeaway in my area.

CherryChasingDotMuncher · 24/10/2017 08:44

So who else is ordering a pizza tonight off the back of this thread?

OP the party sounds amazing your DDs are very lucky!

NewPapaGuinea · 24/10/2017 09:20

I'm still trying to work out how Krispy Kreme have convinced people to pay circa £2 for ONE doughnut!

Even at halfprice, £10 for a pizza is pretty expensive, but ok for an occasional treat.
