Equality for everyone!!! Hurrah!!

Apart from the fact that equality means the erosion of rights from 50% of the population.

But let’s jump on the bandwagon of being cool and accepting....and not doing any research into the subject, for example how drugs that suppress puberty can result in life limiting side effects.

Let’s not talk about men convicted of rape who end up in women’s prisons or the medals won by men competing in women’s sport.

Agghh

That video! Shock Absolutely chilling.

nauticant · 20/10/2017 12:11

One irony in all of this is that Rachel Dolezal's shenanigans have done a public good. She provides an excellent illustration of what self-identity means in practice and her actions provide a neat shorthand argument about why it's wrong to accept self-identification uncritically.

Thanks Rachel! (Although I can't imagine she's pleased about this.)

BitchQueenofAngmar · 20/10/2017 12:19

Am I right in my understanding that the Gender Identity Bill is currently stalled? And is different to the Gender Recognition Act being mentioned in the OP?

Gender identity becoming a protected characteristic is a terrifying thought for women (actual true women, not trans women).

Sallystyle · 20/10/2017 12:21

It frightens me. If I have tried to mention it IRL I have had shocked faces, like I'm a bigot.

I tried to share something important on FB and upset people and didn't have the courage to keep it up. Some people just don't want to listen and prefer to shout bigot at anyone who can see the real issues with all of this.

I am genuinely pretty scared for our future.

MoistCantaloupe · 20/10/2017 12:35

What about the women who got thrown out of the women's shelter in Canada? They felt uncomfortable sharing a bedroom wirh a trans woman.

That makes me angry. No safe space is a safe space anymore.

CAAKE · 20/10/2017 12:36

I’ve had the same thing happen IRL U2.

The tide is turning here and there, though. See this article about a Headmaster completely cocking it up on gender neutral loos -

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 20/10/2017 12:38

Gender is not a spectrum of enlightening choices to be made in the commodity market (clothing, make up, shoes, cosmetic surgery, glittery cupcake sprinkles etc etc)... it is a violent hierarchical system of oppression (just like race and social class) used to subjugate, control and exploit the life-bearing class of humans for their sexual, child bearing and caring labour

Exactly. I'm not a mum and I don't want to be but I still understand the difference between biology and misogynist social constructs.

SloeSloeQuickQuickGin · 20/10/2017 12:40

Apart from the fact that equality means the erosion of rights from 50% of the population.

Which 50% is that then? Last time I looked I was a woman and my rights haven't been eroded.

Chist on a bike the hysteria in this forum at times is astounding.

busyboysmum · 20/10/2017 12:44

Sloe so because it currently doesn't affect your life it's hysteria?

Say that to the women competing against men now in sports.....

Nickynackynoodle · 20/10/2017 12:47

Oh sloe such naivety would be charming if it wasn't so worrying.

As long as you're ok, everyone should stop being "hysterical", yes?

busyboysmum · 20/10/2017 12:47

Looks pretty bloody unfair to me!

And no it doesn't personally affect me at the moment but that's not relevant when fighting injustice.

The right to single sex only spaces SloeSloeQuickQuickGin

The right to scholarships and grants aimed at women. The right to women only refuges and prisons.

How much damage will have to be done before it's too much? A trans identifying man with a penis has already been moved after being transferred to a women's prison then sexually harassing other prisoners. Domestic abusers have become NHS poster cases because they're now a 'woman' and it was the stress of being transgender that made them a violent abuser apparently.

Do we just brush all this aside because it's only women who are hurt? Or maybe it's rational concerns that should be discussed. Not quickly dismissed due to 'hysteria'.

BahHumbygge · 20/10/2017 12:57

Hysteria, huh? Interesting choice of words, seeing as it has its roots in misogynistic concept of wandering wombs, and to be treated by manual stimulation of the genitals by the physician, and sexual intercourse. Reminiscent of the recommendation to "uptight" women these days that they "just need a good rogering". Yet another oppressive put down of women who don't toe the line by not prioritising male preferences and who stand up for women only space and policies.

AssignedPerfectAtBirth · 20/10/2017 13:00

Sloe
Are you happy to share a changing room with a male bodied person including intact, functioning penis? Happy for your daughter, your mother, your grandmother? Happy for a woman who has been raped, been a victim of domestic abuse? Or just for a woman who does not wish to be undressed in front of a male or to have a male undressed in front of her. What happens if this male bodied person has an erection? Many MTT are attracted to women so it's certainly feasible. Or should we all ignore it all and have a lovely 'girlie' talk about lingerie and lipstick?

Is objecting to this 'hysterical'?

AssignedPerfectAtBirth · 20/10/2017 13:01

Busy
What's the story with that photo?

FlaviaAlbia · 20/10/2017 13:09

If it's the second photo, I know that one. It's Rachel McKinnon, who astoundingly enough came first in a woman's bike race.

Hormones can't change bone or muscle structure. Which kind of fucks women's sport.

Look at Strava, I know some extraordinarily good women cyclists, but they don't come close to some men's KOM times.

AssignedPerfectAtBirth · 20/10/2017 13:10

No the one before, the black person

Nickynackynoodle · 20/10/2017 13:10

The basketball player is Brittney Griner I think.

ThymeLord · 20/10/2017 13:12

It really infuriates me to be told that it's hysterical not to want to share single sex spaces with a man. Why are my rights, as a survivor of abuse, worth less than his?

BahHumbygge · 20/10/2017 13:18

Fallon Fox, trans-identified male mixed martial artist knocked several shades of shit out of female Tamikka Brents in a fight.

Is that fair, that a male bodied person can fight a female in a combative sport where safety is paramount?

“I’ve fought a lot of women and have never felt the strength that I felt in a fight as I did that night. I can’t answer whether it’s because she was born a man or not because I’m not a doctor. I can only say, I’ve never felt so overpowered ever in my life and I am an abnormally strong female in my own right,” she stated. “Her grip was different, I could usually move around in the clinch against other females but couldn’t move at all in Fox’s clinch…"

AssignedPerfectAtBirth · 20/10/2017 13:26

There are LOADS of older ladies who frequent my gym, do the Pilates/yoga classes then meet up in the cafe for a coffee and blether afterwards. Allowing a male trans person into the female changing rooms would drastically change these women's lives. It would deny them access to exercise, to seeing their friends, it impacts on their social life etc. Many women would be affected by Gender Self ID laws.

At the moment, at the same gym, there is a sign which states that boys over the age of 8 years must change in the male facilities. The sign was put up in the last year, presumably after some complaints were made by females. Certainly there are often male children in the changing rooms with their mothers getting changed for swimming or swimming lessons. Is women are objecting to 8 year boys how the hell are they going to react to a 45 year old male wearing lingerie over visible cock and balls. The fact is, many many women do not understand the implications of Gender Self ID and there will be holy hell to pay when they find out

I think the basket ball player is someone called LeBron James who was just dragging it up. As far as I know he's a man who plays in men's games.

AssignedPerfectAtBirth · 20/10/2017 13:36

Er no, not going to fuck off but thanks Sis (although not much of one really are you)
