all the shock and horror is getting on my nerves, are they really telling us this guy hit on loads of the woman there and was abusive towards them and no one talked about it?

sheesh

OP posts:
Montacute · 15/10/2017 01:23

Of course they knew. I know and I've never so much as set foot in Los Angeles or the entertainment industry.

BriechonCheese · 15/10/2017 01:24

Much like JS. How many people who worked at the BBC at the time and came out saying "oh yes, we all knew what he was like". Despicable.

EachandEveryone · 15/10/2017 01:24

Of course everyone knew, its the same in the music industry. It mustve been a running internal joke.

khajiit13 · 15/10/2017 01:25

Of course they all knew. And for all the ones coming forward, you'll have at least twice as many keeping quiet because they went a long with it and made a career.

Montacute · 15/10/2017 01:27

Although I've been mightily pissed off that more blame has been focused on actresses who didn't speak out rather than on Weinstein himself.

Seemingly it's always the woman's fault.

BoneyBackJefferson · 15/10/2017 01:28

IMHO, lots knew, many are now jumping on the bandwagon in an attempt to protect themselves.

MartinJD · 15/10/2017 01:36

Lots of people here proclaiming to have "known" and that EVERYONE "knew". Knew what exactly? that this guy raped women? Is there actually any real evidence to support this?

Best,
MJD

I agree - initially I thought it plausible that established stars with power were unaware but there are too many instances of people who did say something and were subsequently ignored.

This was Courtney Love in 2005 on the red carpet - www.tmz.com/2017/10/14/courtney-love-harvey-weinstein-2005-warns-actresses-sexual-harassment

They knew or if they didn’t know they chose ‘not to know’.

Besides the sexual assaults he sounds a violent, thuggish man in all his dealings with everyone and they all knew this and accepted it. Including the media who chose to ignore the stories whilst he was optioning their articles and handing out deals or controlling their access to those starring in his films.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 15/10/2017 01:42

Oh Martin is back to tell us women we are in the wrong Hmm

The police are taking it seriously along with his own company and the academy they are not asking for evidence one wonders why you are

JanetStWalker · 15/10/2017 01:43

Even I knew, in my my Manchester hovel FFS! Of course Streep et al knew, the disgraceful bunch of cowardly sycophants.

Pawpainting · 15/10/2017 01:44

All the people in the industry that are coming out and saying that they knew and have done for years are the evidence. Do you think they are all lying? Any regular reader of celebrity gossip sites knew. I don't think it's feasible to suggest that some of the most well connected and celebrated actors in Hollywood hadn't heard a thing.

here is an article that talks about how long these stories have been out there and when certain blind items were published

Montacute · 15/10/2017 01:48

Best,
MJD

All hail Martin and his patronising best nonsense. And his determination that no one knew what Weinstein was like.

Great to have you back Martin.

Montacute · 15/10/2017 01:49

What is it with creepy men on Mumsnet determined to set the women straight?

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed: I'm not here to tell anyone they are wrong.
Of course the police are taking it seriously, these are very serious allegations, which I don't doubt for one moment this guy is guilty of. My point was that I just struggle to believe that "everyone knew" what he was getting up to.

Parallels can be drawn with Saville. Yes there where rumours that he was a deviant but certainly no one really knew what he was up to, apart from his victims of course. I suspect this case is similar in that sense.

Cheers,
MJD

MartinJD · 15/10/2017 01:56

pinkcandy84: Of course not, otherwise he would of been sent to prison years ago.

Scorn not his simplicity.

randomuntrainedcuntowner · 15/10/2017 02:01

I wish mjd would fuck off. Is he Donald trump, or even HW, in disguise?!

Pawpainting · 15/10/2017 02:03

Yes there where rumours that he was a deviant but certainly no one really knew what he was up to, apart from his victims of course.

His victims. And the people that they confided in. And the assistants who were sometimes present. And his brother and other high up employees in the company who were aware of the payouts. And the police who had recorded evidence of his harassment but were unable to proceed with charges. And the gossip sites who published detailed blind items about his behaviour.

Yes, no one knew exactly what he was up to did they? Hmm

MCBeatsandGrindah · 15/10/2017 02:07

Rich Hall (American comedian) said on the news quiz (R4) on Friday that he knew, or at least had heard the rumours. He says if he, who is at the bottom end of the industry and not really involved in Hollywood, knew then everyone knew.

Yours,
MC Beats (and Grindah)

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 15/10/2017 02:09

Oh yes you are Martin

We are used to men like you trying to make us see sense Hmm we can see it a mile off

Like we are used to men who are sexual predators in the work place that we are warned to stay away from or jokes are made about their wondering hands or sadly learn ourselves or sense what sort of person they are. Often when they are powerful it's not always easy to keep yourself safe

But I am sure you know better from your own experiences rather than the women's experiences on MN

randomuntrainedcuntowner · 15/10/2017 02:10

What makes me shudder, is that Hw has always reminded me of an exdp who sexually assaulted me, albeit in a covert way that made me believe it was my fault/or that he misunderstood/didn't really mean it.

I guess that's how a lot of these mean get away with it.

He makes my sk
