3 year old dd with ex who lives/works in the ME for the next couple of years. I stupidly thought it was a good idea to go and visit him early next year and now I'm having second thoughts. Flights have been paid for (by him) but no accommodation so far.

Wwyd?

MN pages are littered with single mothers now facing exactly this problem

Absolute bullshit. Show us ONE single thread where a UK national has tried to keep a UK child in the ME from a visit while accompanied by the UK mother.
He has no rights to and wouldn't be able to.

TheVanguardSix · 24/10/2017 09:48

Ah, I see you've decided to go.

Enjoy! It will be gorgeous and safe.
Just don't give too much power to your ex. Be aware, ok? Don't get wrapped up in him and his new life. Remember why you're not together. Keep your head on straight and have a good time in what is meant to be a wonderful place.
I'll stop mothering you now. Wink

Sorry, unfortunately this does happen sometimes. I know of two women who lost their DC this way. However, this was not Oman, this was the UAE.

Oman is a lot more progressive than other ME countries. Just as an example, Sultan Qaboos, the leader of Oman, is an openly gay man.

Leilanii Openly? Db has just come back from Oman after three years secondment, and there are rumours, but I didn't get the impression there was anything open about the Sultan's sexuality, especially as it is forbidden in Islam.

Just thinking, if he’s paying for your hotel, then definitely go to the Shangrila Grin

The Radisson Blu is great, but still about £120 a night. An apartment hotel might be a good option if you’re staying longer than a couple of weeks and a few have washing machines.

bonfireheart · 24/10/2017 18:56

scaryteacher we all think the UK is progressive until I read some threads on here with people getting their knickers in a twist about Prince Harry Mayberry marrying a non-white divorcee!!
