Parent and child parking spaces closer than disabled parking

AIBU to think this is wrong at my local Morrison’s? Parent and child directly in front of the door to the shop, the disabled spaces are to the side and I Would estimate the furthest ones are 3-5 times the distance of the parent and child spaces to the door of the shop.

Also AIBU to think it would be safer for the children not to have to cross the “ road” where the cars drive past to go along the car park so it would make sense to have them where the disabled parking is that is on the same side as the shop?

Yes you're right on both points.

At my nearest supermarket the P&C are marginally closer but i assumed this was because they end up being next to a pathway out of the way of cars therefore being safer for children. Makes no sense for P&C to be closer and more dangerous.

This is the same at a Morrisons I go to. I'm disabled and half the time I'm with my child. I park in the closest space available if I'm walking in, so will use P&C without my child. If I'm having a rough week or expect to be a while, I will use my wheelchair. As I'm not walking, I don't mind parking a bit further away in the disabled bays.

For me, it's the tuts and shakes of the head when I park and then walk that get to me. My wheelchair legitimises my use of disabled parking, but walking is even harder for me than wheelchair use. It's the blue badge that grants the right to park, but people just assume the worst of others.

I have a blue badge, I use the P&C if they are closer - even if I don't have children in the car.

You ought to be ashamed, HiJenny, what stupid reasoning. Disabled users will ALWAYS trump P&C and so they bloody well should. P&C is a sop, it's not a requirement. Reverse into your space and then you won't have to reverse out. Simple.

Yep. same at our Morrisons. There are never any blue badge spaces left though (unless you go at 8am) so, that being the case I park in the P&C ones.

but why are disabled bays further away that parent and child?

Are you incapable of walking the distance because you a child? wouldnt it be better if parent and child spaces were situated at the back by a nice long safe path (no one not needing the extra space will park there) win win i think

Having a baby is not a disability. P and c spaces are nice if they're free but if not, tough. There's one tick on this thread and it isn't them..,

Sorry! Its just I was with my disabled mum and we don’t normally do grocery shopping together, but today we did and she wanted to go round the shop, so we needed a disabled bay. So I go get into the car park, go to the parent and child spaces right outside and realise the disabled bays aren’t there and have to go right to the start of the car park again and ended up on the furthest bay which was a “ long” walk considering it’s for disabled people, and thought it was a strange design.

I guess it’s just one of those little things I only noticed because it’s affected me today, it’s probably been like it my entire life!

Jenny Sometimes I physically incapable of walking the extra 25m now that I am disabled. When I was fit and healthy and a P&C space (which I do actually see the point of as a helpful spot but not a requirement) wasn't available I had the option of parking elsewhere and having a short struggle to get the children out and then walk to the store. It wasn't ideal but it didn't land me in hospital.
I don't have the option, as a disabled person of parking literally anywhere other than the bays at the front of the shop. No option, none. If I tried to walk from a spot elsewhere I would end up in hospital and there aren't any P&C spaces there for when my DH brings my DC to visit.
