To not care if a delivery driver uses a few ft of someones drive at the turning point

I run a small buisness from home, I get a delivery once a month from a hgv. There's a turning point at the end of my road that the driver uses to turn around in.

Someone that lives there has had a go at me twice for the hgv turning around at the turning point and apparently using their drive. They claim it's "ripping up the drive" but I've looked at it with them and it hasn't been resurfaced in maybe 20 years so yes it is breaking up a bit. But I doubt that is a lorry once a month.

Aibu to just carry on and ignore the angry man that has little going on in his life?

Surely it's nothing to do with you he should be complaining to the driver or delivery company. You are their customer, you are not employing them so you should direct his complaints to them.

But surely 'angry man' owns his drive, and as it's on his own property' therefore doesn't expect anyone to drive onto his private land to use it as a public turning point?

But it's not the op driving on it? Why should the complaints be directed at her.

I agree that the neighbour has every right to be pissed off but he should be complaining to the person/company who are doing it.

Can you give him the details of the delivery company you are using? Then he can complain to them directly.

I wouldn't appreciate an HGV using my property to turn round in either.

I wouldn't be happy about my driveway being used like this either. Agree with pp that you should give the neighbour the drivers details.

You're being unneighborly to not care. You could at least mention it to your supplier and see if there's anything they can do. Doesn't take much.

It's at most a few ft of a 50ft drive and it's not me doing it.

The van is clearly branded so it's easy for him to contact the company. If he's that bothered by it he should put a gate on it.

I'm not even sure he owns it, his house was built after mine and on my deads I don't own the bit of driveway before my front garden.

I kind of see his point. You are running the business and the driver is a supplier. I think when you run a business from home, you have a responsibility to not let it impact negatively on your neighbours.
Even if his drive is old and breaking up, it's not going to be helped by having an hgv reversing on it!

Is there no way the driver can reverse in rather than having to turn?

I am normally pretty laid back about people using the edge of my drive to turn but a HGV doing it would annoy me especially if regularly

If you're running a small business from home don't you have to get permission from the council? That's the sort of thing that they look at in considering whether to give permission, so I'd say it is your responsibility to ask the driver not to.

He could complain to the company, and they could ignore Him. But as you are their customer they might actually listen to you. Id feel responsible to do so if it were me and it was my delivery.

Certainly wouldn’t think they should get a fence. Confused

Part of running a business from home is needing to be considerate to neighbours

Speak to the delivery company and tell them you've been asked that they don't use neighbours drives to turn round

Of course a Lorry will cause damage to a domestic driveway. Maybe not as a one off but certainly over time.

He should not have to install a gate to prevent the lorry driver being inconsiderate either. A word from you should be adequate and if that doesn't stop it you should suggest he report the driver to thir employer.

Some people are territorial about their driveways, and people that aren't might not "get" why they are. But in the interest of good neighbourly relations I think you should mention it to the driver when you next get a delivery and ask him if he can try to avoid going up the driveway because you get an earful every time. This costs you nothing.

Petty or not, some people get very het up by things like this and so I'd ask the HGV to avoid his drive I think. No big deal surely?

But it's not your drive so it's pointless if you think the driver should use your neighbour's drive or not. Your ndn is obviously unhappy. However I do agree that he should be complaining directly to the company.

Our ex across the road neighbour destroyed our drive by reserving his massive Volvo on it for many years. Yes we hadn't had or replaced for years because until he reversed on it it didn't need doing. It will cost thousands to put right. Does your neighbour think you have suggested the driver reverse on to his drive? I would be peeved to.

The HGV should be reversing into the road if he can turn around without using private property.

All it would take is one phone call from you to the delivery firm asking them not to use private property. Why wouldn't you do that?

I've got a huge drive and live at the beginning of a cul de sac so people turn on my drive. It's annoying but I just live with it but if a HGV was regularly turning on it I'd be saying something they can do lots of damage.

I think the man has every right to be pissed off.

We used to get cheeky fuckers reversing into our drive on their way from our neighbours house, as it was easier than going down the road to turn, and we lived on a narrow ish road at the time. I mean, they actually reversed half way up it! (Our car was in the garage at the time!!!)

So we purposely started leaving our car on the drive all the time, and putt the back end right at the end of the drive. That stopped the cheeky cunts. Hmm

YABU and so is the driver. Whether the man's drive is 50 foot long, 500 foot long, or 5 foot long, it's HIS PROPERTY. And an HGV truck too? Errrm no!

I would gate the drive off or put solid posts up at the foot (that sink into the floor for him with a remote control when he wants to get in and out. Saw a few of these when we went to Canada last year.)
