To be in tears thinking I will never get over this bug?

Have a bad stomach bug which originally caused severe stomach cramps and loss of appetite/nausea but then turned into diarrhea which I have now had for 9 days. Doctor just said to wait it out but although I feel a bit better and the time between each diorohea attack is lengthening, it is still there and worse in the early hours. I have it three or four times in the day which aren't that bad but in the night it is a different story and I have it 1-2 times really bad.
I have already taken a week off work and dread the thought of calling in for yet another week. Most people who get diorohea are over it in 5 days, I don't get why it is not the same for me. I really cannot live like this anymore wondering when it will decide to stop, it is pure hell :(

I am not getting too cocky, had 2 good days but still producing vile smelling gas and convinced I still have something terrible which will result from the stool test. This aside, I am making a separate appointment for my anxiety as this event has made it spiral to a dangerous level and I have had several panic attacks in the early hours of the morning as I am convinced I have a chronic illness. I just wanted to let you all know I am addressing it and I know I need help.

Man I’m so happy to read that OP Flowers

If it helps if I didn’t have my beta blockers for my anxiety I’d be scrunched in a corner somewhere. There’s no reason to let it rule your life in this day in age, you deserve a life. There has to be something that will work for you. Good luck.

YoureAnArseholeDenise · 15/10/2017 23:04

Good luck op x

Sienna333 · 15/10/2017 23:04

Thanks Gamerchick. I didn't realise just how bad it has got and this incident has escalated that. Hopefully I can get the stall sample back quickly so I can move on from this paralysing fear that I have a chronic disorder. Once it is established it is just a bad bug, I need to focus on my overwhelming, appalling anxiety.

I got the results back from mine quite quickly. It just seems like ages when you’re anxious about it.

Hopefully they’re clear and you can concentrate on getting back on an even keel.

Sienna333 · 15/10/2017 23:16

That is what is causing the anxiety that it will come back as showing inflammation or something like that. :(
Either way, sorting out my anxiety is a real priority

Sounds like a horrible bug - there is so much going around. I have OCD that manifests itself in the form of health anxiety - being in a constant state of anxiety ramps up your ‘fight or flight’ response, and so the runs is very common. Not to say that it didn’t start out as a bug, but perhaps the continuation is because you are feeling so anxious. It sounds like you’ve been slowly recovering, which can only be a good thing. If it was a Bad Thing, you would only be getting worse, not better.

Sienna333 · 16/10/2017 07:50

I so hope so Chaosisaladder.

1st morning in 17 days that I haven't had to rush to the toilet this morning, No BM so far. Again, not getting overconfident but this is surely a good sign that it might finally be going.

Teddy7878 · 16/10/2017 09:16

Hope you got the results you were wanting

Sienna333 · 16/10/2017 10:29

Stool test came back as normal. I was so shocked I literally couldn't get my words out when she told me. I do think I had E coli and because the stool test was done so late, it just wasn't detected.
Straight after the call, I needed to go for another BM!

On the plus side I should be given antibiotics if it doesn't clear. I am down to 1-2 BM's over past 2-3 days so hopefully it is fading out.

OP posts:
Teddy7878 · 16/10/2017 10:31

Is it not risky to be given an antibiotic when they don't know what it is? Antibiotics can make you feel like absolute crap and if it's something like IBS then it won't help. Sounds like you are getting better and feeling a bit calmer though. The fact you had to go for a BM straight after being on the phone shows anxiety is playing a big part

gamerchick · 16/10/2017 10:32

Sounds like it’s leaving.

Now time to give that anxiety a kicking!

Sienna333 · 16/10/2017 10:40

I told them I was now only going once/twice a day as opposed to 5-7 times.
Of course it's good that nothing sinister came up but it is a bit weird.
I don't feel I need antibiotics as it does appear to be slowing down/disappearing. I guess it's just a little unsettling that I won't ever know for sure what it was. Like I say, I do think it was E coli and have read that unless you get a sample down on the first few days of it, it won't show up after.

At least I know it isn't Chrones or UC/anything sinister.

Teddy7878 · 16/10/2017 10:43

My stool samples showed as nothing too even though I was having diarrhea about 10 times a day and felt incredibly unwell. My GP thinks I had gastroentiritis that then gave me Post infectious IBS for a couple of months after. I'm starting to feel a bit better though.
A stool sample wouldn't show things like chrons etc btw. You would need a colonoscopy to rule them out but it doesn't sound like you have anything more than a bit of a bug/IBS/anxiety

Sienna333 · 16/10/2017 10:51

It can go some way towards detecting it though as shows up blood/inflammation.

Here's hoping I only improve from here on in anyway.

OP posts:
Teddy7878 · 16/10/2017 11:09

I haven't had blood or inflammation show up in my stools but am still being sent for a colonoscopy and endescopy next month. I've had diarrhea for 11 weeks though and it sounds like you'll be better within 3-4 weeks so I wouldn't worry yourself anymore ad just continue to get better

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 16/10/2017 11:48

Great, concentrate on getting better ,sounds like it was a bad bug Smile

PenelopeFlintstone · 16/10/2017 11:56

FlowersSmile I'm glad you're on the mend.

Sienna333 · 16/10/2017 12:14

Here's hoping. I am sure I would have other symptoms if it were more sinister and I don't think I would be slowly improving if that were the case.

OP posts:
DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 18/10/2017 11:00

How's things?Smile

Sienna333 · 18/10/2017 12:23

Down to 2 BM's a day and the stools are loose but formed so I am not even sure if it counts as D. Trying to stay calm and also banning myself from googling my symptoms as I know it leads me to think I have something chronic where as surely that wouldn't be the case if I were improving.

OP posts:
Sienna333 · 18/10/2017 12:43

Stomach does go crazy when I eat though, lots of bubbling and popping. At night it feels very acidic as well, no chest pain or heartburn just bile that sort of rises up then disappears into a loud fart (Sorry).

OP posts:
DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 18/10/2017 13:01

Acidophilus will help with that, are you taking it?

Sounds like you're on the mendSmile

Sienna333 · 18/10/2017 13:23

I haven't heard of that, is it a probiotic?

I do hope I am on the mend. Have a separate docs appointment for anxiety as still convinced this is ulcerative colitis even though it seems to be clearing. I just have a lot of health anxieties which need addressing

OP posts:
DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 18/10/2017 13:24

Yes, probiotic.
