To be in tears thinking I will never get over this bug?

Have a bad stomach bug which originally caused severe stomach cramps and loss of appetite/nausea but then turned into diarrhea which I have now had for 9 days. Doctor just said to wait it out but although I feel a bit better and the time between each diorohea attack is lengthening, it is still there and worse in the early hours. I have it three or four times in the day which aren't that bad but in the night it is a different story and I have it 1-2 times really bad.
I have already taken a week off work and dread the thought of calling in for yet another week. Most people who get diorohea are over it in 5 days, I don't get why it is not the same for me. I really cannot live like this anymore wondering when it will decide to stop, it is pure hell :(

Have you called the surgery to ask how long it will take to get the results?

I'd call today given that it's Freida...

Teddy7878 · 13/10/2017 10:42

Call them this afternoon definitely. I was told mine would take a week but I phoned within 2 days and got my results. They are unlikely to call you themselves unless it's something really serious that needs urgent treatment

Sienna333 · 13/10/2017 10:53

Yes, I might try calling the surgery in a bit. It was done Wednesday so if it was anything really urgent, surely I would know by now.

Just called and they said it wasn't there yet. Will try again Monday.

Try one more time late afternoon today as often doctor surgeries don't get test results back until the afternoon. Do you have another GP appt booked because if you do need antibiotics you'll need to speak to your GP

Sienna333 · 13/10/2017 12:00

Will do. I haven't made another appointment yet. Will see what it comes back with. Hopefully is just a case of needing some antibiotics.

This is really interesting to read.

I’ve had diarrhoea since July. Have had tests done, stool sample showed high level of calprotectin, but by time test results came back, bm had calmed down. GP did blood tests which came back fine. That was 4weeks ago and now back to constant diarrhoea more or less the day after blood tests came back.

Going back to GP on Tuesday, it’s making me so depressed. Strangely, I’ve not really lost weight, despite being on a diet. I’ve put a few lb on.

Hope you get answers soon Op.

Sienna333 · 13/10/2017 12:25

Were you ill beforehand PP?

OP posts:
ALemonyPea · 13/10/2017 12:28

No, not ill at all. I’ve no stomach cramps either.

Stool sample tested negative for bacteria, and positive for calprotectin which indicates crohns or colitis. I think it may be colitis and will be pushing for further investigation. It’s making my life miserable.

Sienna333 · 13/10/2017 12:33

That's scary. Sorry to hear.

following this avidly hoping you get some sort of answers/help! a lot of unkind replies on this thread! Flowers

Sienna333 · 13/10/2017 13:17

Thank you. I know it seems I have been over reacting but I am terrified about
it never stopping and it being something like Ibd or Chrones. As I say, I don't have any other symptoms anymore except D and my stomach was checked at the doctors (Doctor said it felt nice and soft) so it seems unlikely it is that but it is unsettling and I am still very scared. The support and kind replies have helped me through the worst of it so I am grateful to those posters.

Also, is it the done thing that the receptionist will give results out on the phone? I find it odd that they can do this.

OP posts:
ALemonyPea · 13/10/2017 14:20

The receptionist can tell you if the results have come back clear or if you need to see a GP.

Sienna333 · 13/10/2017 15:40

So they can't tell you what it is?

OP posts:
Teddy7878 · 13/10/2017 15:48

Depends on the receptionist. I've had one give me the details of blood test results, and I've had another who said I needed to speak to my GP as something had flagged up. She wouldn't give me anymore info than that but did tell me not to worry as it wasn't something serious. She got the GP to call me the following day.
I'm sure you'd be able to get stool sample results over the phone if they were checking for bacterial infections as it's not anything too serious

Sienna333 · 13/10/2017 16:02

I hope so. I know I will be really scared if they say "It came back negative, you will have to see a doctor" rather than just telling me themselves.

Allthelightsgoout · 13/10/2017 16:29

Honestly, as soon as this is sorted you need to speak to your GP about treating your anxiety effectively. I'd make that a priority once you feel better.

Sienna333 · 13/10/2017 16:35

Anxiety is a bitch. My rational brain tells me it is just a long lasting bug and that it is on it's way out, anxiety tells me I will be told I have Crohns or Ulcerative Colitis, that I will never recover from this and it will continue to plague my life. I know it isn't rational, that's the beast of anxiety.

OP posts:
Allthelightsgoout · 13/10/2017 16:57

Yes it is, which is why you need to address it soon when you feel better rather than get good news and ignore the anxiety because it will rear its head again the next time you're physically ill or have even vague symptoms as you will again leap to the worst case scenario.

Sienna333 · 13/10/2017 17:07

I won't ignore it and haven't in the past, it's just taken a backseat because of this weird stomach issue I have going on which has taken over at the moment.

OP posts:
lemony7 · 13/10/2017 18:49

You seriously need to address your anxiety issues, and take some Imodium like everyone (including the GP) has told you. You need to help yourself and you’re not.

gamerchick · 13/10/2017 18:54

Yes please take some Imodium. It could be something as simple as a stroppy bowel after your bug that has simply forgotten how to behave.

I have no idea why you haven’t.

Sienna333 · 13/10/2017 19:01

Because it could be bacterial infection which I have been told makes it worse. Obviously I don't want that after 15 days of diarrhoea

OP posts:
Sienna333 · 13/10/2017 19:03

The doctor didn't tell me to take Immodium as it happens. She asked if I had and I said only on the first day but it didn't work. After that I knew it may do more harm then good to take it which she agreed with.
If the sample comes back as viral she may well suggest I take it again, if that is the case, I will. At the moment without further medical advice I would rather not take the risk.
