To be in tears thinking I will never get over this bug?

Have a bad stomach bug which originally caused severe stomach cramps and loss of appetite/nausea but then turned into diarrhea which I have now had for 9 days. Doctor just said to wait it out but although I feel a bit better and the time between each diorohea attack is lengthening, it is still there and worse in the early hours. I have it three or four times in the day which aren't that bad but in the night it is a different story and I have it 1-2 times really bad.
I have already taken a week off work and dread the thought of calling in for yet another week. Most people who get diorohea are over it in 5 days, I don't get why it is not the same for me. I really cannot live like this anymore wondering when it will decide to stop, it is pure hell :(

I have seeked treatment before for anxiety but thought I was recovering. This episode has shown me that is far, far from the case.
I cried a lot at the doctors and been signed off for another week. She agrees my anxiety is out of control and that this incident has probably triggered it to
this level. I just said I am so scared I have isochemic colitis or something like Chrons/IBD especially as I now have a weird acid bile type feeling which rises up in my throat. I am just a mess but at least I did something pro active for the anxiety today

Has she prescribed you some medication?
Acid reflux is incredibly common. I get it all the time when I'm stressed or I've eaten something I'm intolerant to. You'll be absolutely fine and I hope you feel better soon

Teddy7878 · 20/10/2017 16:43

Also if your dr thought for one second that you had colitis then she would get you rushed for a colonoscopy. Please stop thinking you have it as you're making yourself really unwell mentally

Sienna333 · 20/10/2017 16:48

Already on meds but thinking I need something else as clearly these aren't working.
I need to hide my laptop I think so I am not tempted to google symptoms. Last night I was reading about ishemic colitis at about 11PM and by 1AM, I was in a full blown panic attack crying and shaking. I know I sound crazy for that but it's the truth. It's a horrible thing.

You honestly don't have it! But I understand how much anxiety can take over your life.
Don't google symptoms for 48 hours and I bet you'll be surprised at how much better you feel. The more anxious you get the longer it will take for your stomach issues to completely go away. Has the doctor given you any advice? They really should have sorted your meds out to help you a bit

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 20/10/2017 17:18

You need probiotics, your gut will be upset from being poorly WHICH IS ALL PERFECTLY NORMAL

Sienna333 · 20/10/2017 17:36

I have to go back in a week for a review of the meds. The doctor said googling symptoms is only fueling the anxiety and I need to take up my own suggestion of staying offline to help myself.

I am going to buy some probiotics tomorrow even though my sister seems to think it causes D?

OP posts:
DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 20/10/2017 18:48

No it doesn't, only if you were to take above the recommend dose- the same as lots of things.

Teddy7878 · 20/10/2017 18:53

It didn't give me any diarrhea. All it did was help me feel better

RMC123 · 20/10/2017 19:00

I* am going to buy some probiotics tomorrow even though my sister seems to think it causes D?*
Is your sister a medic? What did the doctor say about them?
I experienced some health anxiety after my first child was born. More about their health than mine. One thing that really helped me was deciding on one health professional who I trusted and listening to their advice. And sticking to that. Different people giving advice just makes anxiety worse. And as many others have said Google is NOT your friend.

Sienna333 · 20/10/2017 19:12

Yes, the doctor I have now is pretty good. I will give the probiotics a go as am still struggling with the acidy feeling in my stomach.

Why don't our give your lap top to a family member so you can't scare yourself witless by googling VERY RARE illnesses like ischemic Colitis!
Believe me any markers in your stool sample would have prompted a barrage of further tests, and don't forget you feel better now.

Sienna333 · 20/10/2017 19:30

That's a good idea Candle.
Ischemic colitis is rare? I didn't know, I just saw some of my symptoms and panicked. Google is definitely not my friend, I am an idiot to keep looking.

OP posts:
Candlelight234 · 20/10/2017 19:45

Yes, I had never even heard of it so I googled it. I don't think it even sounds like an ibd (but Cant guarantee that).
'Colitis' can also be used to mean colon inflammation as opposed to the ibd 'ulcerative colitis'. Honestly Try to focus on the fact you are getting better Flowers

Belindaboom · 20/10/2017 19:46

Glad you’re getting help, your anxiety sounds completely over the top.

Broad spectrum antibiotics wipe your gut and can cause c diff. If there’s nothing in the stool sample it isn’t worth it.

Teddy7878 · 20/10/2017 20:14

Ishemic colitis is very uncommon and mainly seen in over 60s

Sienna333 · 20/10/2017 20:41

Belinda, I am afraid I can't control the anxiety however irrational it may seem
to you.

Teddy, I must be so sick as I read that and still had a panic attack thinking I was in the small minority and must have it. Anxiety is a horrible, horrible illness.

OP posts:
PenelopeFlintstone · 22/10/2017 09:21

I certainly DO wish you strength Flowers

Sienna333 · 22/10/2017 09:33

Thank you Penelope, that is very kind of you.

Physically, I am doing okish. Still 2 BM'S a day which are loose ish but wouldn't consider it D. Still getting very bad smelling wind though which is getting me down as it smells so foul (Sorry.) Hoping the probiotics sort that out.

OP posts:
Teddy7878 · 22/10/2017 10:20

Often bad smelling wind can be due to a food intolerance. Can you give an idea of what you are eating at the moment and we might be able to help you work out what's going on? I get lots of wind when I'm worrying/stressed too as it causes havoc with my bowel. When I'm totally relaxed and happy I'll only pass wind occasionally and it won't smell

Sienna333 · 22/10/2017 10:37

I think it may just be my stomach reacting to the bug I have had and I stupidly had milk last night (Thinking it would help with the acid feeling), it did but I was left with severe gas which smelt foul. I don't tolerate milk that well unless it is in small amounts so I think that's what caused it last night.
I am eating chicken, salmon, broccoli, toast, that kind of thing. Avoiding caffeine for the moment. Hopefully this is normal after a stomach bug, I always find it worse at night.

OP posts:
Teddy7878 · 22/10/2017 10:48

Maybe avoid the broccoli for now as it's one of the most fibrous veggies and is known for causing loose stools and gas amongst people with IBS or stomach bugs. If you google "broccoli and IBS" you'll see that it's the number one thing to avoid as it produces loads of gas in your bowel. I'm lactose intolerant too and have to have the lactofree milk (tastes the exact same just has the lactose removed). All the supermarkets sell it so it might be worth trying. My bf never knows the difference when I put it in his cereal

Teddy7878 · 22/10/2017 10:50

And you might find it worse at night as it takes about 5-7 hours for food to read your intestines so you're probably getting the effects from whatever you had for your tea

Sienna333 · 22/10/2017 11:52

I didn't know that about broccoli. Definitely best avoided then. Makes sense now why I was so full of gas last night. A big milkshake and broccoli, not good choices.

Thanks for all your support x

OP posts:
Teddy7878 · 22/10/2017 12:14

Haha yes definitely sounds like they won't have helped.
Google the veg that cause gas and avoid those for the next few weeks until you feel 100% better. Best of luck with recovering
