I just hate these kind of stupid pranks & ridiculous attitude. Judge her on the content of her speech which wasn't great by all means. But give her her P45 because she lost her voice and some letters fell off a sign and replace her with who? Boris, Andrea Leadsome, Jezza & McDonnell????
I'm no fan of the current set up but at least TM is just about holding things together and seems to have a sense of national duty unlike Boris - I fear the alternative could be a lot worse.

IdontlooklikeEmmaWatson · 05/10/2017 11:46

"I just hate these kind of stupid pranks & ridiculous attitude."

TBH I am not a friend of pranks, most are unkind, boyish and silly and often misogynist to boot.

However in this case, it is more satire than prank and I do very much like the fact that she is eating humble pie after last year's nasty conference speech. I cannot feel sorry for this woman or her party. She has been an utter disaster for this country and totally deserves to go. I wonder if PMs have performance reviews...

Peregrina · 05/10/2017 11:48

She lost her voice and the letters fell off afterwards. I thought she handled the P45 interruption well, but her authority is so diminished now, she needed to be absolutely on top of her game and she wasn't.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 05/10/2017 11:48

I wonder if PMs have performance reviews.

Yes they are called elections to an extent. Which they still won by 56 sests.

LagunaBubbles · 05/10/2017 11:49

It would be better if the "o", "r" and "y" had dropped off "country" on cue. But we can't have anything

Pathetic, but then the Tories are - don't think they'll survive much longer. Brexit will be a nightmare, as they don't seem to have a clue how to negotiate meaningfully with Europe. I have a personal axe to grind inasmuch that the stress of working for an incompetent and bullying Tory council nearly destroyed my husband, a decent, loyal, professional and caring man.

Terrylene · 05/10/2017 11:58

I enjoyed the F (sliding) off Grin Best conference speech by a mile.

I don't think any of the alternatives are any good either, and I've been round the block enough to know that if they seem good, they probably won't be anyway. You usually end up with the best of a bad lot. Sad

IdontlooklikeEmmaWatson · 05/10/2017 12:00

Until a couple of years ago I thought the term Nasty Party was hyperbole. Now I think is is accurate. bunch of pretentious clowns

rightnowimpissed · 05/10/2017 12:05

The tories are crap, bring on a new election.

Sequence · 05/10/2017 12:07

I think she put forward some sensible ideas and the letters/prankster/cough are irrelevant. She isn't one of the braying, greedy, entitled old Etonians thank goodness. She's an ordinary person and a One Nation Tory who knows about real life.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 05/10/2017 12:08

"The Tories are crap bring on another election."

What for they'll only be voted back in, as per usual. The British Society loves these cretins for some unknown reason. It is reflected in the votes, after all.

nigelsbigface · 05/10/2017 12:17

I hate her politics and Party but people
Screaming that she now 'must go' based on some crummy security and her being unwell seems a bit harsh to me.
George osbourne coughed his way through his first budget speech as I recall, and I don't remember anyone calling for his head on a block.
People get sick. Man gets sick-oh he's sick. Woman gets sick-another sign that she's weak/incompetent...(I mean I think she is those things, but that's not based on her coughing her way through a speech).

rightnowimpissed · 05/10/2017 12:22

They are distroying this country, making poor even porrer and their rich mates even wealthier, They lied and convinced people to vote for brexit and have no plan or clue what they are doing.

Their entire ethos is segregation, of clutures, ethinisities, classes.

The NHS is about to fail completly and they are ignoring this fact.

People cannot live a decent life in this country under theior regime, there will be a greater revolt when intrest rate sky rocket and people are out on the street.

She went to the country earlier in he year - did you miss it?!

TM & the Tories were voted back in with an increased vote share - even though the campaign was the worst in living memory & JC & Labour were promising the moon on a stick.

Joeymaynardslimegreendress · 05/10/2017 13:07

The tories are crap being in another election

What are you 13? We just had a bloody election and the tories won.

Do you think taking the piss out of a woman with a bad cold, whose trying to deal with the ridiculous Brexit while being stabbed in the back by gutless mysogynistic posh men is a good thing?

I loathe most of their policies but if you think the dear leader could do a better job you are deluded.

The economy would collapse on his spending plans.

And I still think both of them are decent hardworking people who both deserve a bit of respect and loyalty from the general public and their parties.

“So has Jeremy Corbyn

Unless itsvissues in his own party....”

What issues do you think he’s run away from, Piglet?

IdontlooklikeEmmaWatson · 05/10/2017 13:17

"..both deserve a bit of respect and loyalty from the general public and their parties"

What sort of respect? What do you mean by loyalty? Can you give examples how the general public ought to behave, what they should say and not say to show respect and loyalty?

Fatbird71 · 05/10/2017 13:18

She couldn't win on this one. She's getting slated for coughing through it but what was the alternative? Getting someone else to read it? That would have received even more criticism.

OyWithThePoodles · 05/10/2017 13:36

Not a fan of the Conservative Party or TM (to put it very mildly) but I’m surprised at the extent of the negative reactions to this speech. She couldn’t help the cough, the prank, the set falling apart … when I was listening to the speech I was infuriated by her trying to claim the common touch and be ‘one of us’ - the ice maiden joke, the granny(?) who was in domestic service; the claim that compassion is a Tory virtue ; that bizarre British Dream nonsense. I do feel that something odd is going on that the media are saying it’s the worst ever, when actually this time around some the policies are not as hideous as usual and some (albeit scant) recognition was given to the hardship people in the country are suffering. The Party and its backers (of all kinds) have decided she’s damaged goods and she’s got to go, and I’m worried that what will replace her will be even worse.

Also the Frida Kahlo bracelet she was wearing and the West Wing plagiarism … obviously she was going to be ridiculed for those, so just … why? It had to be deliberately setting her up for mockery?

Joeymaynardslimegreendress · 05/10/2017 13:41

Emma

Respect that they seem genuine hardworking people who both want to serve their country. Stop criticising their dress sense, coughing ffs, respective partners.

By all means criticise policies, attitudes and professional failings but don’t make it personal.

I feel a tinge of misogyny is creeping into the criticism of Theresa too. I don’t like that.

The80sweregreat · 05/10/2017 13:45

The bracelet was eye catching - i heard a political pundit on five live this morning saying that this ' might have been done on purpose' - i was a bit hmm about this - although he may have had a point as one of the faces on it was Frida Kahlo who was a communist, so an odd choice for a Conservative! It was all very surreal yesterday - who will take over though is a worry if they do get to resign. The rest of them are not much better and they will still have to 'sort out' Brexit. which is a huge problem.

LineysRun · 05/10/2017 13:46

She must have been set up.

Must have been.

A plagiarized speech - tick; a security lapse - tick; a stage error - tick; something in her water to make her cough - it's possible? That's the sort of cough I get if I unexpectedly drink undiluted spirits.

It's just so weird.

TheOtherGirl · 05/10/2017 13:47

The Tories won the election by a big margin despite their very lacklustre campaign and JC offering free footrubs and a gold bar to everyone who voted Labour.

Do you really think Labour would get in if we held another election now? Like really?

And if somehow Scotland do win their independence then 'England' will never vote Labour in ever again.

PigletwasPoohsFriend · 05/10/2017 13:48

What issues do you think he’s run away from, Piglet?

Issues of anti-semitism for starters.
