Is this a suitable tea for my kids?

So they are having a fishfinger sandwich each with cucumber sticks and a chopped up pear each with 2 Petit filous each for pudding.

They have also had:
Shreddies for breakfast
Mid morning fruit
Hot school dinner each with veg and a pudding
Snacks at the childminders - mixed veg sticks with houmous, pain au choc, raisins and an apple.

My mother was disgusted with tea - she thinks I'm not feeding them properly Confused - they prefer this kind of tea sometimes- like scrambled egg on toast or beans on toast.

Aibu or is my mother?

In the interests of serious research I have now investigated the fish finger sandwich and am ready to reveal my findings: mmmmm mmmmmm mmmmmmm Grin

AdaColeman · 05/10/2017 13:53

Grin Grin SilverySurfer!
How about that other great culinary treat, the black pudding sandwich?

Are you ready to walk on the wild side!?

Leapfrog44 · 05/10/2017 17:40

Sorry that's a horrible way to feed kids. Processed food with presumably supermarket processed bread with processed sugary crap for pudding. With some scraps of cucumber on the side.

School lunch (with unnecessary pudding!)
Shreddies (processed food)

Raisins (almost pure sugar ) pan au chocolate (processed food).

You mother is right, that's no way to feed a child.

Do people in this country have any idea what REAL food as opposed to 'edible food like substances' is ?!

Anon511 · 05/10/2017 17:43

Fish finger sandwich is great. I do it all the time with my kids too. Add cucumber sticks and tomatoes it’s a balanced meal.
I think overall it’s a lot of sugar in the day though. Breakfast lunch snack and tea all have a very sugary element. shreddies is actually full of sugar you know, then morning fruit, lunch pudding, pain au chocolate, raisin, petit filous...

PandorasXbox · 05/10/2017 17:43

Nice one hiphop. Fucking all charm you are.

belkastrelka · 05/10/2017 17:47

Since you are asking... Fish finger sandwich sound pretty awful, to be honest. Breaded fish in bread?

Roast chicken (stew, roast salmon, meat balls, etc.) + steamed/cooked/fresh vegetables + potato mash (rice, pasta, buckwheat, sweet potato wedges, etc.) would be a proper meal IMO.

IHaveBrilloHair · 05/10/2017 17:48

Ahaaha Hiphopfrog
You're either joking or a complete dickhead, it's perfectly good food.
We're having fish teas tonight-battered fish, chips, mushy peas, white sliced bread with butter and pickles. A lovely pot of tea to go with it.
The food in this country is great, tons to choose from and loads of fresh, seasonal food, dishes from many countries incorporated, and loads of people who embrace it all.

ItsNachoCheese · 05/10/2017 17:51

hiphop do enlighten us as to what real food is, we are all desperate to know so we dont have to feed our kids on processed crap like fish fingers Hmm

ItsNachoCheese · 05/10/2017 17:53

mattaffleck if it makes you feel any better ds had boiled egg however sadly not with kale he had it with spaghetti for dinner tonight 😂

SexandDrugsandaNiceCuppa · 05/10/2017 17:54

Thank god that Hiphopfrog has arrived to tell us all how terrible we are as parents.

WhooooAmI24601 · 05/10/2017 17:55

If anyone lives near to Sutton Cheney wharf, the cafe there serves fish finger sandwiches that are The Best I've ever tried. Ever!

I'm trying very hard to eat healthily this week but now just want a fish finger sandwich on white bread with tartare sauce!

SingingMySong · 05/10/2017 17:58

If they've had a cooked lunch at school and several snacks with the CM, it's more proportional to have bits and bobs for tea than a full roast dinner!

Sugarformyhoney · 05/10/2017 17:59

There’s always one like hip hop frog 😂🖕
Now, vegetable sandwiches with grated cheese are the shizzle.

BitOutOfPractice · 05/10/2017 18:02

YANBU OP

Golftee · 05/10/2017 18:05

We had McDonald's delivery tonight. The little ones are licking out the ketchup dips as I type.

itshappening · 05/10/2017 18:17

HipHop you are the sole representative of the raisin police, where are they? Also, you say almost pure sugar, but you don't go into the detail of how they stick to teeth etc...Shock

I remember reading an interview with Posh Spice where she said that when she got sick of dieting and needed a blow out, she allowed herself a treat of.....six raisins.

Vickylou78 · 05/10/2017 18:20

Crikey some people are so judgemental!! What is wrong with fishfingers?? White fish is protein (often Omega 3 added), its low in saturated fat and a bit of bread isn't going to do any harm! Especially if the little one has had a full dinner at school, but tbh even if they hadn't I still think is fine!

I don't think some people live In the real world?! As long as over the whole week it's a balanced diet it's fine! Some of us have busy lives, fussy toddlers, low budgets we can't all be making super food salads or roast dinners for our toddlers every meal!

If it makes you feel better Op. tonight my 3 year old had an omelette and baked beans and a banana for dessert!

noeffingidea · 05/10/2017 18:24

Love fishfinger sandwiches here. I like mine with pepper and vinegar, the way I was brought up to have fishfingers. Tartare sauce was way too posh for us.

JonSnowsWife · 05/10/2017 18:26

McDonald's deliver?!

That's lovely hiphop but some parents are just happy to get any sort of food down their DCs.

MasterofKittens · 05/10/2017 18:27

DH, DD and I have just demolished fish finger sandwiches for tea. Yummmmm! What would you DM deem a suitable tea?

JonSnowsWife · 05/10/2017 18:27

Since you are asking... Fish finger sandwich sound pretty awful, to be honest. Breaded fish in bread?

No. Breaded fish fingers don't have the right consistency. Has to be battered fish fingers.

Golftee · 05/10/2017 18:30

I would have thought a fish finger sandwich is similar to a filliet fish burger in McDonald's?

Srush86 · 05/10/2017 18:31

I love a fish finger sarni especially with sauce I seem to make these on Saturdays when I’m having a stress free day and don’t feel like cooking much. Simple yet yummy 😋

Truzza · 05/10/2017 18:32

If it makes you feel any better I made pancakes for tea and they had them with strawberries and Nutella ...... fish finger sandwhich sounds great for a random weds night tea

pollymere · 05/10/2017 18:33

My dd is a freak who'd prefer fish with boiled rice and green vegetables (don't blame me, I try to feed her fishfingers and beans on toast but she refuses, although she now eats bacon). I think it sounds lovely although two pf and pear sounds quite a lot. Maybe one or the other?
