Is this a suitable tea for my kids?

So they are having a fishfinger sandwich each with cucumber sticks and a chopped up pear each with 2 Petit filous each for pudding.

They have also had:
Shreddies for breakfast
Mid morning fruit
Hot school dinner each with veg and a pudding
Snacks at the childminders - mixed veg sticks with houmous, pain au choc, raisins and an apple.

My mother was disgusted with tea - she thinks I'm not feeding them properly Confused - they prefer this kind of tea sometimes- like scrambled egg on toast or beans on toast.

Aibu or is my mother?

Fish finger sandwiches are frowned on by the kids and pounced on by the adults in this house..... Fishfingers are apparently correctly served with peas and sweetcorn...

But, yes, it's fine - they're having a good, sturdy, hot lunch, snacks at the childminders, the last thing they probably want is an official dinner too...

I'd just buy the giant petit filous though, rather than giving them two tiddlers (my youngest could eat the small ones in two spoonfulls at 2!)

My dd had a sausage sandwich in the car, do I win? Had no time at home between a sports match and then another sport training. I was quite proud of myself, would usually of been a prepacked sandwich.
Prepares to be flamed

Pigflewpast · 03/10/2017 19:50

My personal favourite is a hot quiche sandwich. Has to be white processed bread to get the correct sogginess.

WomblingThree · 03/10/2017 19:51

You’ve been a mother for nine years. Why on earth do you need your mother’s approval or input regarding what you feed your children? Honestly, some people just like creating drama for themselves.

AnnieAnoniMouse · 03/10/2017 19:53

It's a perfectly fine tea.

People yapping on about petit filou just feel the need to appear superior & find 'something' you are doing wrong. Petit filou has the same amount of sugar as your average yogurt (not Greek/reduced sugar etc) per 100g and of course at their ages they can have two, they're tiny.

Having said that, LOL, we all like the (Greek) FAGE full fat, it's low in sugar but that's just a coincidence! 😀 Most kids I know really like it.

Heathens, the lot of you.

Fish fingers should be served with custard.

There's nothing more to be said.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 03/10/2017 19:55

There is a cutted-up pear.

All else fades into insignificance . . .

Raisedbyguineapigs · 03/10/2017 19:57

Penny My DS1 used to actually eat that! He insisted so i put a bit of Ambrosia on the side like ketchup. I didnt do the whole Matt Smith bowl of custard though!

Pigflewpast · 03/10/2017 19:58

Penny4 fond memories of my lovely Grandpa once serving up cod in custard after getting the pans of custard and hollandaise sauce mixed up

Happyhappyveggie · 03/10/2017 20:01

@wombling I wasn't asking her approval- I tried to end phone call as was making tea & she asked what they were having & then judged

It's absolutely fine, ignore mummy

bigkidsdidit · 03/10/2017 20:06

We had breaded chicken and salad in flatbreads.
Which is identical to fishfinger sandwiches and cucumber!

I love the big fishfingers from Sainsbury's ttd. Massive and chunky fish Smile

Vinorosso74 · 03/10/2017 20:09

It's fine. DD wanted a cup a soup in a bowl (I hate those things) with bread, spinach, carrot and ham on the side. As I'd forgotten to get something out the freezer that's what she had.

sparklyelephant · 03/10/2017 20:13

Highinthesky tartare sauce in my humble opinion is much nicer 😉

Inthepast123 · 03/10/2017 20:13

Can we swap kids? Mine will not touch a cucumber stick or peppers etc. Grapes if i am lucky!

Hulababy · 03/10/2017 20:15

the school pudding is apparently low sugar/ sugar free but I'm never sure.

Really, they are. I have the odd one at work and definitely low sugar. You can taste they are. Im often disappointed I wasted the calories on the dessert - when I go for dessert I want full fat and full sugar ;)

Sweetooth92 · 03/10/2017 20:17

Another one here who now really wants a dish finger sandwich!! On three layers of white thick crusty bread with fish fingers & butter on one layer and peas rocket & mayonaise on the other 😍😍 your mother is totally wrong. Fish finger sandwiches are the foods of the gods

mindutopia · 03/10/2017 20:17

I think that's fine, minus the petit filous (we don't do sugary puddings except for Sunday lunch or special occasions). It's very similar to what mine would have on a Friday or Saturday when we don't eat with her. The rest of the week we eat together and the same food (not too keen on a fish finger sandwich myself, so we'd have some more adult and less kid food-y). But on a Friday night, yep, that's often what I serve, but the pear would be the pudding. Sometimes we also do it with pasta or rice instead of the bread in the sandwich and either peas or carrot sticks or tomatoes.

I AM NOW EATING A FISH FINGER SANDWICH Smile!!!!

Because of this thread.

Mittens1969 · 03/10/2017 20:24

My DD2 loves fish fingers, I’ll have to see if she likes a fish finger sandwich. She also likes cucumber sticks, that would make a perfect snack.

Re your DM, she’s definitely being U, as your DC had substantial meals at school. What you gave them was fine in view of that.

essssex · 03/10/2017 20:31

They already had a hot dinner! It's fine!

Happyhappyveggie · 03/10/2017 20:44

Omg I love fishfinger butties (gotta be called a butty here in NW England...)! I like them with salad cream, lettuce and cucumber. I used to make DD have school dinners on days when we'd be busy in the evening just so I could give a butty or cereal for tea. As long as it's a balanced diet does it really matter?

JonSnowsWife · 03/10/2017 21:06

A substantial snack isn't tea though.

OP. Instead of giving them two mini pots lf petit filous next time get the big square pots. DC loves them.

I wouldn't worry OP. I'm pretty sure your DCs aren't going to be 50st overweight because you gave them an extra bit of sugar one evening. Grin
