Is this a suitable tea for my kids?

So they are having a fishfinger sandwich each with cucumber sticks and a chopped up pear each with 2 Petit filous each for pudding.

They have also had:
Shreddies for breakfast
Mid morning fruit
Hot school dinner each with veg and a pudding
Snacks at the childminders - mixed veg sticks with houmous, pain au choc, raisins and an apple.

My mother was disgusted with tea - she thinks I'm not feeding them properly Confused - they prefer this kind of tea sometimes- like scrambled egg on toast or beans on toast.

Aibu or is my mother?

I really want a fish finger sandwich now.

Everything fine in moderation. Don't stress about it.

overnightangel · 03/10/2017 18:51

@ SilverySurfer "Never heard of a fish finger sandwich"

What madness is this?!!!!!
Put a chopped spring onion in , salt and letter, lightly toast the bread, lovely 😊

ConciseandNice · 03/10/2017 18:53

It's not pop tarts. It's a win! (Plus actually apart from the yoghurts id say it's a good tea)

dietcokeandwine · 03/10/2017 18:54

It's protein, carbs and veg, isn't it?

It's fine.

Your mother is being rude and unhelpful.

Fish fingers are yum!

RavingRoo · 03/10/2017 18:54

No, too much sugar in 2 petit filous. Why do they need fruit and 2 sugary yoghurts each for dessert? Otherwise good.

RhiannonOHara · 03/10/2017 18:55

Oh, it's fine. I'd happily eat that for my tea and I'm 42!

Cath2907 · 03/10/2017 18:55

I don’t like fish fingers but lo does. She had sausage, potato waffle and broccoli followed by a yoghurt for her tea. Sound similar to yours... I don’t see the issue?

MrsJBaptiste · 03/10/2017 18:59

My mum would be exactly the same, she'll comment sometimes that my two are having pizza on a Saturday night. Surely everyone knows you eat nice food at the weekend? Always a proper meal for my parents whatever the day!

Shed be horrified if she knew that I sometimes just have a bowl of cereal or a bagel in the evenings if I can't be bothered to cook for myself!

NeedsAsockamnesty · 03/10/2017 18:59

Your mums right one day it's a fish finger sandwich the next you have started them on the very slippery crack addiction slope.

You bastard you Grin

catsoup · 03/10/2017 19:01

It's a great dinner, I wouldn't worry about their diet at all. Bloody hell, I'm having chicken dippers in a wrap with bbq sauce and I'm 33. I could take a leaf out of your book for myself!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 03/10/2017 19:03

I think tea is fine, DS often has that kind of tea on nights with Cubs etc. And I love fish ginger sandwiches!

If I was going to be picky I'd maybe say there's a lot of sugar over the course of the day between 3 servings of fruit/petit filous/lunchtime pudding/pain au choc.

AdaColeman · 03/10/2017 19:04

SilverySurfer. It's the law that fish finger sandwiches need mayonnaise, though some renegades add tomato ketchup, unbelievable as that is!

(Have you been living in Outer Mongolia until now?) Grin

HotelEuphoria · 03/10/2017 19:05

I had a fish finger baguette for my Sunday dinner, your mum would be horrified.

DillyDilly · 03/10/2017 19:07

The petit filous are in-necessary, far too much sugar in them.

inchyrablue · 03/10/2017 19:07

I first heard of fish finger sandwiches in a Nigel slater recipe book. Ergo, not just adequate but posh. Grin

RedForFilth · 03/10/2017 19:07

The only correct response to your mother is "maybe you're right. It's wonderful that you're going to be cooking for them each night as clearly I have no idea! You'll do a much better job I'm sure. They usually eat at X time."

Longdistance · 03/10/2017 19:09

Oh I love fish finger sandwiches, especially when there's a fried egg inside 🤤

Happyhappyveggie · 03/10/2017 19:10

Actually, agree about the amount of sugar- the school pudding is apparently low sugar/ sugar free but I'm never sure. My kids love yoghurts but only have them twice a week - today probably wasn't the best day to be fair. I do think they have too much sugar generally!

Blahblahboo · 03/10/2017 19:13

If it was me I would cut down on the processed carbs ( especially after the rubbish school dinners kids get these days) and sugar. So I would leave out the bread, have a little salad, a little bit of mash and Greek yogurt and fruit for dessert. But that's just me .

CobwebKitten · 03/10/2017 19:13

They don't need two Petit Filou... just get them a proper sized less-sugared yoghurt. That's yucky baby stuff :p

Beyond that it's fine, ignore your mother and don't tell her things.

MrsJBaptiste · 03/10/2017 19:15

catsoup That sounds delicious!

JonSnowsWife · 03/10/2017 19:17

Your Mum. That sounds yummy! Fish finger sandwiches are my favourite.

Impressed with the veg and fruit.
DS has had a full blown meltdown since lunchtime because someone dared to put a slither of cucumber in his packed lunch. Hmm

Fish finger butties and pearcutup (as it's still called here even though they are teens) sounds fantastic. One mini yoghurt thing's enough though. Nod and smile to your mum.

PinkHeart5914 · 03/10/2017 19:19

Didn’t take long for the sugar police to arrive!

OP it’s one day it’s fine and I’m sure your dc enjoyed it
