To spend £150 on something I don't need but want very much?

I need new underwear. I have £130 worth of pants and 2 bras in my shiopping basket. My current underwear is all a bit mingling and stretchy.

ANd then I found the most beautiful perfect thing i have been looking for for ever. Something I really really really want. I dont need it though. It's not practical, it doesn't do anything, but I want it.

So which should I buy?

What is the perfect thing?

scrabbler3 · 01/10/2017 08:15

The underwear unless you can afford both.

Lumpylumperson · 01/10/2017 08:16

What's the perfect thing?

Could you have maybe £30 of underwear? (In some ships/a sale that could be a bra and a couple+ of pairs of nice pants). Then could you still get the perfect thing?

KarateKitten · 01/10/2017 08:16

If you have the money you can spend it on whatever you decide. Every penny you spend in life has an opportunity cost. That's how it works.

Catsize · 01/10/2017 08:16

That's a high bra:pant ratio. Unless they're £20 a pair? I'm guessing that if you can afford to spend £130 on pants, you can do what you like with £150.

elevenclips · 01/10/2017 08:17

You could get the thing and just get a cheap multi pack of pants from M&S

Rainatnight · 01/10/2017 08:17

Dying to know what the perfect thing is.

I'd get cheaper underwear and the perfect thing.

Didiusfalco · 01/10/2017 08:17

Is it £130 of underwear plus £150 on the perfect thing?

Columbine1 · 01/10/2017 08:17

It won't make you happy - 'stuff' doesn't beyond the thrill of purchase.
Buy some reasonable underwear & use the money for something more meaningful.

InDubiousBattle · 01/10/2017 08:17

What's the perfect thing? I'd get it and some cheap knickers.

cornerstoned · 01/10/2017 08:18

if you don't need it, don't buy it. Grin

get the underwear! no brainer for me! But I am extremely pragmatic.

NoCureForLove · 01/10/2017 08:20

Your ? is a bit abstract in the absence of knowing what the thing is. Also - you could buy decent new underwear for a lot cheaper if you wanted to. Also - it wholly depends what £150 means in terms of money...

MOIST · 01/10/2017 08:20

8 pants 2 bras. Sloggi. Not cheaply cheap. I could get a 5 pack of pants from Tesco but they wouldn't fit so nicely and would annoy me. But I'd feel more frugal and saintly.

I remember your thread about being off work sick. Are you definitely not just shopping because of boredom? I'm in the same position and I scroll shops and holidays.

Can you afford it? Will it still be there tomorrow, so you can have a think for the rest of the day?

ChippyMinton · 01/10/2017 08:21

Get the perfect thing , but check first that it's returnable if the thrill wears off once you get your sticky mitts on it Wink

Then pop some cheap knickers in your supermarket shop.

Brittbugs80 · 01/10/2017 08:21

What's the perfect thing?

A multi pack of pants is fine for a tenner!

But then I'm all about comfort Grin

Gorgosparta · 01/10/2017 08:21

It really depends.

Do yoi have money to spend on things you want, rather than need? Will spending £150 impact your finances alot.

Also how will you feel in 2 weeks when you underwear is still shit but you have this thing you want.

Is there a compromise? cheaper underwear? And have both?

Personally i love decent underwear.

stuckinthehouse · 01/10/2017 08:22

We need to know what the perfect thing is.

ChippyMinton · 01/10/2017 08:23

Tesco have v comfy pants just as good as sloggi btw.

MOIST · 01/10/2017 08:25

A feckin.i wasn't going to say as v outing and was discussing with my mate who probably frequents these parts. but she's fabulous and won't care either.
Perfect thing is a beautiful, perfect nativity set. Ive been looking for the perfect one for many many years and now i have found it. I want it badly. But it is pointless and not necessary. But my entire life is spent shopping in supermarkets and charity shops and reduced rails and cutting corners. So why shouldn't i be a bit frivolous?

I put away (and then let it build up) £50 a month for treats. When I see something I really want, but my sensible head wouldn't let me buy out of my "real" money, I can use this stash without guilt. Great for occasions like this, OP!

cornerstoned · 01/10/2017 08:28

what on earth would you do with a nativity set?

Brittbugs80 · 01/10/2017 08:28

I love a good Nativity. Can you find it cheaper elsewhere? Costco had a nice one for £75 yesterday but DH said no!

Lowdoorinthewal1 · 01/10/2017 08:29

I'd have the nativity set and Tesco pants. The nativity will become an heirloom and be part of so many lovely memories. You can't say that even about sloggi pants.

Gorgosparta · 01/10/2017 08:29

Yeah i wouldnt spend £150 on a nativity set.

My devout catholic mother wouldnt even do that.

Underwear would trump that everytime.
