To spend £150 on something I don't need but want very much?

I need new underwear. I have £130 worth of pants and 2 bras in my shiopping basket. My current underwear is all a bit mingling and stretchy.

ANd then I found the most beautiful perfect thing i have been looking for for ever. Something I really really really want. I dont need it though. It's not practical, it doesn't do anything, but I want it.

So which should I buy?

Buy the thing that sparks the most JOY

buttwingsham · 01/10/2017 10:30

Buy the set.
My kids love ours they get so excited to put it up and when baby Jesus appears in it on Christmas morning. They run first for the presents then second to check he has been born.
"Muuuuuum he's here, the angels have brought him!!"
The year mum dropped Joseph and his head fell off was very sad in our house. Thank god for superglue!

Olympiathequeen · 01/10/2017 10:32

Definitely nativity. It will be there forever and delight you hear in hear til you are old and grey! Probably like your present pants but I’d still prefer the nativity!

Tour · 01/10/2017 10:34

Show us the set and we can help you decide.

TwitterQueen1 · 01/10/2017 10:35

Wot Ag said ^

Joy! I would buy both if I could. Our nativity set is pretty cheap and cheerful. Great idea for a Christmas present for little ones though....

And comfy knickers... aagh. V impt to me right now (hysterectomy).

I'm off into town.....

ssd · 01/10/2017 10:36

A nativity set? are you nuts?

get it op life is too short

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 01/10/2017 10:39

OP, get the nativity set - and go to Sainsbury's online for knickers. I buy the high leg packs and they're fantastic.

Asda does the best bras if you can't find one in M&S.

CariadzDarling · 01/10/2017 10:40

OP, I once bought my friend the most beautiful nativity set for her birthday in June because I knew she loved it. Eighteen years later she still uses it, she loves it, and 18 years later I still remember how it took my breath away when I saw it and I knew it was made for her.

We all need a bit of frivolity at times. Get your nativity set.

Missingstreetlife · 01/10/2017 10:41

Get it if you will still love it in two years. You can buy knickers anytime

Missingstreetlife · 01/10/2017 10:43

Don't post till after you got t, some f... will beat you to it

TinklyLittleLaugh · 01/10/2017 10:43

Si would go for the underwear. But we already have three nativity sets

A woolly one, featuring Hagrid, like the one linked upthread, knitted by DH's aunty: a Playmobile one, which is rather nicely android detailed but very fiddly; and a ELC Happyland type one, which was always used to recreate the school nativity (DS memorised everyone's lines), until I was driven batty every year.

Casual Christmas dropper inners are often taken aback by our holiness.

Flomper · 01/10/2017 10:47

the m ans s stretch pack of pants are just as comfortable as sloggi (i have both) and are less than a tenner. I would happily spend £150 on something i wanted not needed if it was a bit special/fun/different, but i would never spend 150 quid on pants!

GwenStaceyRocks · 01/10/2017 10:49

Buy the nativity set. You'll use it for years.

Flomper · 01/10/2017 10:50

yes my nativity set is a massive extended playmobil one which i love. We have 4 different ones mixed together, 3 were bought for the dc and one Ibought for myself as I couldnt resist it! It was only about £12 in the sale mid December though.

AlternativeTentacle · 01/10/2017 10:51

It's what Jesus would have wanted, £150 nativity sets.

ssd · 01/10/2017 10:55
Grin

are you saying he'd have preferred the sloggis?

Deux · 01/10/2017 10:58

I'd buy the nativity set as every time you look at it will bring you joy. Maybe you could put a few pounds away a week and in say 6 weeks spend it on Sloggis? I think it does us good at times to do something apparently frivolous. ( 20 years ago I bought an expensive necklace - platinum and diamond cross - with my bonus and it brings me joy each time I wear it and it will be DD's one day).

Any chance of a link as I've been looking for the perfect nativity set for years and not found one that ticks all my boxes?

MrsOverTheRoad · 01/10/2017 11:04

I wanna see the Nativity! I love a nice Nativity set! Please show us OP!

MrsOverTheRoad · 01/10/2017 11:05

Also...buy the Nativity. Not the expensive knickers!

kateandme · 01/10/2017 11:07

could you look up brand of nativity set or is it by the store itself.i was just thinking could it be one ofthose where the said stores being upmarket are thinking they can sell it for more than other shops?so could you look it up elsewhere.
could you live with reall cheap underwear get it very cheaply therefore have the nativity set very cheap undies so it wont be like your spending loads on both.
come up with a plan to miss a drink out, bottle of win or something each week to make up the difference.

NikiBabe · 01/10/2017 11:09

sod the nativity set. treat yourself to nice undies.

Sallystyle · 01/10/2017 11:09

Oh please link to the Nativity set!

LaurieMarlow · 01/10/2017 11:11

But the nativity. We were gifted my parents one last year and it is an absolute joy.

We're not even religious.

M&S pants. Frugal month. Buy the bras next paycheck.

MOIST · 01/10/2017 11:14

Oh alright. I'll show you a pic as I've just bought it. Bollox to frugalness and hurrah to frivolity!
And I got a bit of a discount so a bargain!

And if I run out of food I'll force poor D2 to buy food this month.

To spend £150 on something I don't need but want very much?
