To spend £150 on something I don't need but want very much?

I need new underwear. I have £130 worth of pants and 2 bras in my shiopping basket. My current underwear is all a bit mingling and stretchy.

ANd then I found the most beautiful perfect thing i have been looking for for ever. Something I really really really want. I dont need it though. It's not practical, it doesn't do anything, but I want it.

So which should I buy?

I would say get the nativity set and buy cheap pants. They're only pants.

CiderwithBuda · 01/10/2017 11:23

Yay. Ok so it's not my taste but you will love it every year.

MyDcAreMarvel · 01/10/2017 11:23

It's very detailed ,but no colour. Do you not even get a stable for £150?

ssd · 01/10/2017 11:26

blimey

are you very religious op?

KC225 · 01/10/2017 11:37

Get the thing you want and go commando. Not that cold yet. You can save up for some pants in the sales.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 01/10/2017 11:43

iamagreyhound , I'm an atheist but I want that one , where is it from ?

27Feb · 01/10/2017 12:54

Nativity set. Tesco pants. No one ever looked back on an old pair of pants and sighed over the memories.

Well, maybe they did. But I'd still get the nativity set. Grin

Missingstreetlife · 01/10/2017 12:56

Make sure you get pants for xmas

BarbaraofSevillle · 01/10/2017 12:58

Didn't realise these were a thing and now I want one. Have done some googling and am thankful for my modest tastes because I like these from Paperchase for a fiver.

Get the special thing, if you don't you will regret it. You can bring it out every Christmas and enjoy it for years to come. Make do with knickers and bras that you have had for a while, you can always find those. Unless you think you may get run over and taken to a hospital no one will know how grey your knickers are.

pantrylightout · 01/10/2017 13:12

Bugger it, I have just realised that I now need nativity set

AnnieAnoniMouse · 01/10/2017 13:18

Beauty is definitely in the eye of the beholder.

Matalan knickers are The Best. Cheap as chips (cheaper in fact) and SO comfortable. They've got normal leg line but because they're so comfy you don't even feel it.

I don't have a religious bone in my body, but I do love a cuddly donkey, a baby, a happy set of parents, a few lambs and some colourfully dressed blokes bringing presents. I was going to knit some...but you know...

AnnieAnoniMouse · 01/10/2017 13:20

Thank you Barbara. They're really cute! I'll have to ask a friend to pick me up a set. I can't be trusted to go into Paperchase for one thing 😖😂

manicinsomniac · 01/10/2017 13:27

I would put all the underwear back, buy the nativity and get 2 bras and 8 pairs of pants from Primark for about £15. Then it's like the nativity set has cost £35 not £150 and you still have the same amount of stuff.

But I have a real live for random and not especially useful display items and fail to see any difference at all between a £3 bra and a £30 bra. They do exactly the same job as far as I'm concerned. Same with £1 pants and £10 pants.

I'm very capable of spending money I don't need to spend - but not on things that have cheaper versions that do the same thing.

CigarsofthePharoahs · 01/10/2017 13:27

I'd like a nativity set. We're going to rip out the hideously manky gas fire, reinstate the open fireplace that some numpty blocked off and buy a nice fire surround with a proper mantel piece so there's somewhere to put it!
Probably won't happen till next year so I am nativity setless for now.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 01/10/2017 13:53

Glad you bought it.
If it's something you've been searching for for years and you've finally found it, then, if it helps, divide the cost by the number of years you've been looking for it. That helps me to justify the cost!

I bought a dress once that cost £170. I really really really wanted it, but it was way more than I'd ever spent on clothes ever before (I'm a cheapskate usually). I had to work out how many weeks' pay it was (about 2) to say to myself that it was ok - and then I was fine.

If it was going to adversely affect other areas of my life to spend that much, then I probably wouldn't do it - but if not, then I probably would.
