Now it's full of posters with long drawn out, multiple threads about boring banal shit.

And if anyone dares to challenge the OP of a multiple thread they must be a harpy or troll.

The fact that the multiple-thread-starters might be trolls themselves seems to escape the attention of the fans.

It all went to hell in a handcart with the advent of broadband and smartphones, before that you had to be hardcore to tolerate dial up.

Well, cling film isn't really a problem as we are so incredibly rich that we can afford all the cling film we need, living in a grade 1 mansion as we do. Not that I like to talk about it of course being utterly non materialistic (very vulgar and non U).

I quite like it though, each thread is a stand alone you don't get the pile ons and people agreeing with their pals anymore as it's too big. There are other sites with smaller groups but then they only get 5 replies from apparently very wound up ex posters from here , so it's not that tempting really. I know the trolls are a pita but has been said they are everywhere and from what I've seen things are deleted swiftly, not sure what more people expect from the mods.

I dunno about IQ points but there's a lot more viciousness and a lot less laughs. Also many many more uber virtuous PO people. I just told a woman with a (probably invented) horrible husband to kick him in the balls. It seemed the only suitable response.

I was on MN before that thread (under another name) and I don't really see a huge difference. I do tend to avoid opening certain threads though. I am intrigued to know though what threads were posted before that were so wonderful? I'm genuinely interested not being snarky.

One of my favourite threads was when the OP wrote a letter as a character of a well known book and everyone joined in with their own - it was very funny and creative. It might be in classics I'm not sure.

It was more humorous and daft.
You could actually say what you thought.
There were many more familiar faces and it felt like a community.
MNHQ would show their faces very often and join in the threads.
There were FAR less trolls.

It was good. And it's a shame now it's not.

I’m pretty new, don’t know my own IQ so no idea if it is bringing down the IQ level of MN. It’s nice to have a moan once in a while, but these threads about tthe good old days pop up quite often. What do long term MN users who now don’t like it hope to achieve? Maybe a new set of threads orca completely new site with old moderation, only members with 10 years on MN and sufficient posts on these threads about the past, maybe allow some of the posters who have been banned? Then the rest of us who just don’t come up to scratch can get on with the current site.
